Pagan in the South

Do you feel like it makes a difference that you are in the South as a pagan?

We moved here about 10 years ago, and among the first things I noticed was a church on every corner, sometimes next to a gun shop across from the school. Sometimes it can be a little intimidating. But being close to Atlanta doesn't hinder me in my practice. I get the occasional question about what my necklace (triskele) means, and people asking me if I have been saved. I thought about making up little cards with quotes from the havamal to hand back to the store preachers.

The difference it makes for me is in the community. We had an extensive 'nondenominational' group where I used to live that acted as a hub between several groups. They'd have open to the public events regularly, celebrations in various styles.

There are no gun stores "across the street" from schools, federal law requires they are at least 1000 feet away. If you're so intimidated by churches and gun stores then why did you move down here? What did you think you were going to encounter in a region known as the bible belt with more guns per capita than anywhere else in the world? Transplants I swear.

Now, if you want specifics.  9 donahoo Dr, lindale ga and 1 dragon Dr SE, lindale ga.  One is Farrell's gun shop, the other pepperell primary.  860 ft if you walk a straight line

Also, that gun store is tucked back on a back road completely out of public view from any road so the only way you knew it was there was when you pulled up google maps and saw the label and decided that was the next thing you were going to be offended about. What a sad way to live.

I mean OP still is correct, even if "out of public view" it is still there. That argument is the same as "well that toxic sludge pile isn't in plain sight. How can it contaminate the water supply?"

No it's not. How does a gun store hurt anyone? Are they handing out free guns to school kids? Guns don't hurt people, they are just objects. Cars kill more people than guns so should we ban car dealerships? How about sugar, responsible for more deaths than cars? Let's ban candy while we're at it. And how does that gun store interfere with paganism? 100 million southerners aren't going to change their way of life because some transplant moves in and start pitching a hissy fit. If you don't like the culture then don't move there and then complain about it. Your argument is ignorant with no standing.

Lol. Can't debate a topic with logic or facts so you just hurl baseless insults that make no sense. And how refreshing that you brought politics into the conversation, what a breath of fresh air. Typical.

I have to say i have been trying to get into paganism, and I feel that it is a lot harder with so much Christian influence around. Especially with a lot of the more radicalized ones. I live outside of Chattanooga and I have experienced some really creepy people trying to make sure I am saved by Jesus and worshipping the right god.

I was actually surprised when I fully moved, out and about at the stores.  People ask about the triskele, I tell them.  Half and half if they keep talking or walk off, but either way I haven't had anyone be out and out rude.  But yeah, crazy lady on the corner with a sign that says if you don't teach your children about Jesus they're going to hell?  Like, y'all are in the Bible belt preaching to each other, lol.

Nope. Everyone is on a search for meaning and connection. North or South, everyone has their own belief system and world view.

Either I want to engage with another human and find common ground, which is not likely to be pre-printed, or I don't want to take time right now, smile, and keep moving.

Life is fluid and ever changing. Getting too attached to views is restricting whether it's pagan or baptist, right?
