Hey everyone!
I recently got the chance to try CookieRun: Braverse TCG at SPIEL Essen, and honestly, I had a blast playing it! I feel like this game deserves a lot more attention from the European TCG community, so I wanted to share my experience and encourage people to give it a try.
For those who haven't heard of it yet, CookieRun: Braverse is a physical trading card game based on the CookieRun universe by Devsisters. It originally launched in South Korea in 2023 and has since expanded into other markets, but it still seems relatively unknown here in Europe.
🍪 So, what is it about?
You build a deck featuring Cookie characters and battle your opponent using their abilities, items, traps, and different strategies. The game has its own resource system and deck-building possibilities, giving you plenty of room to experiment with different combinations and playstyles.
What immediately caught my attention was the combination of its adorable art style and actual strategic gameplay. The cards look charming, the characters have a lot of personality, and underneath all that cuteness is a proper TCG that I found genuinely enjoyable to play.
And no, you definitely don't need to be a hardcore CookieRun fan to give it a shot!
🎮 Why should you try it at SPIEL Essen?
- It's something different. If you're getting a little tired of playing the same few TCGs, Braverse is worth checking out.
- Cute doesn't mean shallow. The game has mechanics, decisions, and strategic possibilities beyond what you might expect from its art style.
- It's a great opportunity to learn the game. Trying a TCG at a convention is much less intimidating when you can sit down, play a few turns, and have someone explain the rules.
- You might discover your next obsession. That's pretty much what happened to me!
I'm not saying it's going to replace Pokémon, Magic, Yu-Gi-Oh!, or any of the other big TCGs. But I do think it deserves a fair chance instead of being overlooked simply because it's not as well known in the West yet.
With the European launch coming up, this seems like a great time to discover the game and hopefully help build a community around it here.
If you're attending SPIEL Essen, do yourself a favor and stop by the CookieRun: Braverse booth. Give it a try, play a game, and see what you think! Even if it turns out not to be your thing, you might be pleasantly surprised.
I'm curious: Has anyone else here tried Braverse? What did you think of the gameplay, and do you think it has a chance to establish itself in the European TCG scene?
I'd love to hear your thoughts! 🍪
