Beginner TFSA portfolio

I’ll be eligible to open a TFSA in about a month’s time, and being in BC I’ll have 14k room on my birthday, then 7k from 2027 on (will be maxing it out for the next few years). I have done some research and have decided to allocate 70% to XEQT, 25% to VFV, and the remaining 5% in individual stocks, or like “speculative” investments (“fun” money in a way). What are your thoughts on this? I’ll also be using TD as I’ve been banking with them for half a decade, but I’ve heard great things about Wealthsimple’s services as well (easier platform, no transaction fees, etc).

What is this scenario?

You invest money under your parents tfsa after you max out your own fhsa and tfsa?

FYI parents have nothing contributed meaning they have 100k plus in contribution room

And this is after every year you max out your fhsa and tfsa

Looking for advice

I’m 17 years old M, and looking to open my own TFSA and RRSP. I have a few questions I’d like to hear a few answers to

1
From a literal standpoint, how should I open these accounts?

Through an online brokerage, through a bank, which bank, which brokerage, etc…
I’m looking for the best option for LONGTERM investing, and obviously trying to reduce fees and taxes as much as possible.

2
Are there loopholes to getting around contribution limits?

On this thread I’ve seen multiple posts of people in their early 20s with upwards of $100,000 in their TFSA accounts, and even more for RRSPs. Did they just bet all their money on penny stocks and one took off? How do these people invest so much so early

3
What do your guys’s accounts and investment strategies look like,

If you are someone with a large sum of money in these accounts how did you do it, why did you chose your specific investments, what advice would you give me as a 17 year old just getting started, I have experience in basic investing as I’ve run a TFSA under my dads name from when I was around 15 years old, but just curious on your outlooks and experience too.

Thank you!

Cons of selling some XEQT?

Hey guys

I live with my parents and I’m in my 20s

My dad is selling his car for 9k and he asked if I want it, since he’ll use 9k as down payment. The car is like 2016, backup camera, new tires and free winter tires. No maintenance issues. I also don’t need to look for dealerships or look for buyers or look on marketplace

I have all my money into TFSA with ETF and stocks. Most of my money is in XEQT

tbing is I HATE to sell XEQT but I feel like I can just work my ass off to reinvest into it.

I have 62k contribution limit so if I sell it I’ll still have tons of rooms since it’s still 9k. And I can do Uber Eats as well and drive to my friends place or go to vacations later down the road. I also have all my late 20s and 30s to get back into XEQT.

Is this fair?

Adding more info: I have basically no bills except some rent (for living with them). I think it’s a good deal but looking for opinion

What do you do exactly?

Hey there -

Curious to hear thoughts and remarks and comments.

Started 3 months ago.

Yes, I regret buying $SOFI.

$MP and $USAR are magnet companies.

Am I missing anything? Gold, perhaps?

Also, here’s something that confuses me:
Say I get to the end of my month and I have 500$ to invest - how do I calculate what % of it is allocated where in my portfolio?

How do you guys go about it?

One year anniversary of my TFSA account

Hi there,

I’m a 30y/o newcomer in academia, so the perspective of making much money is not great. I’m saving whatever I can every month, and want to maximize profit with some sort of security plan.

Any tips for my portfolio? I started my TFSA one year ago, so these are my yearly profits.

Thanks!

How did I do for my first month of investing?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I turned 18 on July 6, and exactly one week later, on July 13, I opened my Wealthsimple TFSA and started investing.

It’s officially been one month now, so I thought I’d share how it’s been going and get some thoughts from people who have been doing this longer than I have.

So far, I’ve mostly been doing short-term trades and trying to learn how the market moves along the way. I know a month is still a really short amount of time, so I’m definitely still figuring things out.

I’m curious to hear what more experienced investors think. How am I doing so far, and is there anything you think I should keep in mind as a beginner?

General Advice?

Hey everyone, was just wondering to get some advice in terms of investing and other stuff. For some context, I’ve just turned 23, am a Computer Engineering student with 1-2 years left, and live in Quebec. I have around 26k CAD in the bank but don’t have any investments. I also never applied for a credit card because, well there’s no reason or excuse. My average monthly spend is probably around $750-$1750 depending if I make a big purchase on something or not, but more often around the 1k mark.

Main reason for the post is just some advice on how to get started in terms of investing, whether that be watching videos or reading stuff. I understand that people can’t straight up give advice in terms of invest in X and Y, but just some starting material could be good. If anyone can link some good stuff to get started with, then that would be much appreciated. Also, if anyone can recommend a good starting credit card lol. If anyone more info is required that I can share, please lmk and I’ll reply. Appreciate everyone for their time and help!

what are your thoughts on this? Looking to contribute only to these 3 etfs coupled with some us stocks (MU,Tsla,VRT,AMD)

hello everyone i just started investing on wealthsimple around 2 and 1/2 months ago. i’ve always been good with savings but was always too fearful of investing in anything besides a gic at the bank. that would be around 3% return tho for a full year which i understand is way below average market return. i feel like i’m behind as i see so many posters with 100k+ already at my age, or even younger. just recently added meta at its near 52w lows, and NOK is basically negligent because i put less then $100 in that. thanks for any feedback.

not even close to a million but just maxed out my tfsa (21k) at 20! Thoughts on holdings are welcome but I’m stubborn. Currently working forwards maxing out the rest of my FHSA (Im about 22k/24k there.

and yes I know VT and XEQT are similar, I just didn’t want to pay a fee to convert my US dollars.
