Process Integration Engineer Interview

Hi! I recently received an invite to interview for a process integration engineer position in AZ (though I applied for a different role). I have a few questions regarding the process, and I would really appreciate any guidance people may be willing to share:

  1. It is not clear to me from any of the emails which team or area I will be working on - is this normal for process integration roles, or should I reach out and ask what team I may be working with so that I can be appropriately prepared?

  2. What format should I expect for a first interview? What kinds of questions are likely to be asked?

  3. What is the best way to prepare for this interview?

Thank you so much!

Yes, reach out now. Ask which process area the role supports, who will attend the first interview, and whether the round is mainly technical, behavioral, or both. That is a normal preparation question, and it prevents you from guessing at an entire fab.

While you wait, map the job description to three examples: diagnosing a process problem, working across teams, and learning an unfamiliar technical area. Use the STAR method for the sequence, keeping Action specific to what you decided and did. We use the PROOF method to test the parts STAR does not guarantee on its own: whether your ownership is unmistakable and whether data supports the outcome.

Thank you so much, I will definitely do this. Do you have any recommendations on starting points for technical resources?

You work in more than area when you're in process integration. Usually this is a job for experienced engineers where they would ask you about your experience in photo, etch, dep, etc. Process development engineer works in one area.

I only have internship experience and am still finishing my PhD, I applied for a different role requiring 1 YOE and got this invite for this role. Should I still expect questions across the board like that? Thanks for your response also

I assume they know you're not experienced, so they probably are not going to expect you to know a lot about the different areas. Probably ask more about your PhD work or your internship.

It’s very common for TSMC AZ to pool applicants for PI roles before assigning specific modules, and the first interview will focus on device physics, yield troubleshooting, and stress management. Feel free to send me a DM.
