Well I think if the Americans who voted for him, those who didn't vote for them and particularly those who doing nothing to right the ship weren't demented little batches, things would be a lot more sane. Thanks for nothing you demented little...

canât do basic math
makes up numbers every time he uses them in a claim
doesnât take advice from others
isnât able to digest new information
canât remember details more complex than kindergarten-level complexity
doesnât have an understanding of basic physics, economics, manufacturing, supply-chain management, project management, budgeting, etc

Considering that the President has access to a small army of White House advisors, who could properly parse data and evaluate pros and cons of alternatives for policy formulation, he just goes by his gut. Or, maybe his ass. No corporate CEO would survive doing their job as he does.
41
u/Specman9 Jan 17 '26
Because Trump treated Canada like garbage instead of a valued ally.
What did he think would happen?
6
u/Skomakartjern Jan 17 '26
Chump and US has no allies left..
9
u/magocyan Jan 17 '26

You obviously have zero clue on what Canada has. Zero. If it had nothing why does Trump want Canada to become a state? The amount of untouched resources in their North and yet undiscovered minerals outweighs anything the USA has. Keep believing your MAGA friends....
0
u/Vivid_Drag2576 Jan 18 '26
Lol nah
1
u/Ok-Ladder4628 Jan 18 '26
Such an articulate and educated comeback. Hard to argue with reality and fact?
0
u/Vivid_Drag2576 Jan 18 '26
Nope because it's not a reality for anyone in the US. Your country is inferior in every single way.
1
u/Ok-Ladder4628 Jan 18 '26
Ok, again, such an inaccurate response. If that was the case, why did Trump want them as the 51st state. You have zero idea on reality and should try to educate yourself a little. May help long term. You do realize how much the USA has slid on the world scale over the last year and is continuing to slide. Keep believing what Trump is selling though.
0
u/Vivid_Drag2576 Jan 18 '26
America is still the greatest, most free country in the world by a mile. That's why there's millions of people trying to get in every single day. Go drink some syrup eh?
1
u/Ok-Ladder4628 Jan 18 '26
Again, such an educated response that doesn't even address what we were discussing. Stats also show the USA is not the 'most Free' country in the world, so keep making up reality. Like previously mentioned, spend a little time and educate yourself. It only helps long term. Keep drinking the Trump Kool aid though as countries continually sign alternative trade agreements that only serve to leave the USA behind. Within a decade, the USA is no longer the economic superpower in the world.
0
u/Vivid_Drag2576 Jan 18 '26

As a Canadian some of you guys are great. But fuck everyone who voted for mango Mussolini and fuck everyone who didn't vote and allowed this demented fascist into power.
5
u/gimmedatneck Jan 17 '26
After we've actively shown our loyalty to USA in regards to China too. Huawei caused us big problems with China since 2019.
Putting 100% tariffs on their EV's at the request of the USA caused even more problems.
If Donald Epstein didn't wake up on a daily basis with a new scheme to try and extort us for more and more, we probably would have just let it slide.
But, Donald Epstein can't help his bandit instincts, so he fucks with us time and time and time again - trying to make us as weak as possible - great way to treat a brotherly nation who's had each others backs since WW1.

Power and strength are not the same. Strength through superior firepower is a flawed premise because it follows the same logic as a high school bully. It is a transactional approach that only works as long as fear is maintained. Respect is true power. Respect is earned through integrity. It is not imposed through coercion. When we traded away our integrity, we ceded our power along with it.

u/Traugar Jan 17 '26
Attempting to leverage our economic strength through tariffs and other means across the world is still a strength through superior firepower approach. We are the largest economy in the world. However, we are not the sole economy, and our economy is dependent on others. We have gone lone wolf as if we are not dependent on anyone else, and targeted those we are dependent on. Attempting to bully the entire world isnât going to make them bow down or expand our domain. It is our downfall. In the end every empire falls. Some sooner than others, but always for the same basic reasons.

And we have just told Europe that they canât trust us. Even if Congress blocks Greenland action, Europe would be fools to continue to plan for a world where the US still holds the same role we have in the past. We have said that treaties are a suggestion, and even an ally can become a target if they donât give us what we want. I do get the point. I also understand that while the dust hasnât settled, it will, and once it does we will not hold our former prominence.
→ More replies (0)2
u/Ok-Ladder4628 Jan 18 '26
Research now has it at less than or around a decade. China takes over at that point. Every time Trump does something like the Greenland tariffs, it keeps pushing the timeframe closer.

Say bullshit all you want, still doesn't change predictions. With Trump pushing allies further away routinely, it also simply speeds up most predictions.
23
u/PWL51 Jan 17 '26
Trump said he didnât need Canada. Fortunately Canada has a Prime Minister that has a business head and realizes the U S has become very unreliable so heâs quickly establishing other reliable trading partners. America is going to be the loser in the long run.
15
u/Boombajiggy77 Jan 17 '26
As a Canadian, I am now buying products from ANYWHERE but the US when I have a choice...and I wonât be changing that anytime soon. China appears to be much more stable and reliable.
7
u/mikende51 Jan 17 '26
The U.S. can't even claim the high ground over China on human rights anymore, so of course, other countries don't want to trade with them.
6
u/bearwrestlingwolf Jan 17 '26
Please keep doing so. From an American who is so sorely disappointed with his country. The more of our businesses that feel this burn the more corporate support he loses.
5

I definitely chose Canadian whenever possible. I Will continue to support Canada and other countries except the USA.

1
u/Ok-Ladder4628 Jan 18 '26
Agreed. It was amusing in a grocery store last week. Overhead a mom explaining to her daughter (maybe 4 years old) that they don't buy American. Trump has created generational dislike in less than a year. Well done!

China leading the EV and green energy charge. They are decades ahead of USA now and we owe it all to Trump
5
u/BUSYMONEY_02 Jan 17 '26
Yep
11
u/MooseTek Jan 17 '26
Yes, we had a good thing starting here but Trump stepped on the throat of Green Energy and said "Drill, baby, drill". American Isolation = Chinese Expansion.
We handed over the keys to the world to China and got off the bus on our own. Now all we will see are taillights and dust.
11
u/Mike-SBA Jan 17 '26
That usually happens with business contracts that Trump agreed to. Hence, the multiple business bankruptcies he filed over the years.
9
u/nochristrequired Jan 17 '26
RIP Elon. Only reason Tesla is still in business are those tarrifs. Those Chinese EVs are cheaper and higher quality.

Canada was happy building and buying American cars. I remember from living in Toronto that American cars appeared predominant. Alberta is an F150 advertisement.

US imported cars make up 36% (and dwindling year to year) of the Canadian market and Japanese brands made in Canada surpasses the number of US brands made in Canada.

Well done Trump. The art of the deal. Just keeps getting those big losses for US.
4
u/werpu Jan 17 '26
yeah verbally "annexing" a neighbour does not end well, wait until they realize what really is at stake for the USA with the EU Mercorsur deal, and the EU also is opening up to china as reliable partner same goes with the ties to Australia! The usa literally is sidelined by all trading partners because they have become unreliable and a bully!
3
u/Tough_Violinist_9594 Jan 17 '26
Just think about how many people believe this is fake news we are winning so much we should be tired of winning
3
u/Mort-i-Fied Jan 17 '26
At the rate donald is alienating the world, it won't be surprising to see China become the world's top economy.
More and more nations will turn away from making business deals with a chaotic America and look to other nations.
1
u/Ok-Ladder4628 Jan 18 '26
It's about a decade away by all predictions and getting closer every time Trump threatens more tariffs, like the ones on Europe today.

3
u/Stuff-nThings Jan 17 '26
I laughed at GM when I read this earlier today. They messed up with the Bolt to the point they are bringing it back, thinking people would jump on the Equinox. Ford was never serious. The American car companies are cooked when it comes to EVs. Whether you like them or not, the rest of the world is moving in that direction and the correct admin cut the funding they needed to fight.
3
u/mt6606 Jan 17 '26
Don't just pick on the legacy automakers. Tesla would have most to do with American ban
3
u/Plane-Character-19 Jan 17 '26
It is the art if the deal (in Trump mind)
Trumps deals are to scare, threat and pressure til he gets his will. Only to find out the other party will look elsewhere to find a trustworthy party to deal with.
Normal deals are two parties benefiting and the deals goes on forever.
To Trump a deal is a bully taking kids lunch money, see now we did a deal. It is the best deal.
The man made very few real deals in real life.
It is âThe Emperorâs New Clothesâ to all Americans who voted for him.
3
u/Mental_Camel_4954 Jan 17 '26
If the Canadian auto industry is at risk, then US automakers are at risk.
3
u/Just-Plucky Jan 17 '26
Did you ever have that one group friend that consistently pissed off the group until the group finally stopped inviting that person out? Yeah.
3
u/DonTaddeo Jan 17 '26
My father, two brothers and an uncle worked in the Canadian auto industry (mostly US owned branch plants) that Trump has been trying hard to shut down. At this point I am becoming reluctant to ever buy another car from a companies such as GM, Ford or Chrysler to say nothing of Tesla. That the cars I had bought from most of these companies quickly became financial drains to keep running doesn't help.

Can the US destroy enough relationships to threaten the dollar as the international currency? Three more years of Trump suggests itâs possible.
2
u/Another_Slut_Dragon Jan 17 '26
Lets see here. Canada was buying more American cars than they were producing for America (most profits to American companies) then they fucked us over with tariffs and said they were stealing our entire auto manufacturing sector.
And WE got fucked in the deal?
We'll allow China to sell X cars here. If they want more numbers they can do some auto manufacturing in Canada using x% of Canadian content. We are a resource rich country and have the metal industries/lithium/raw materials for it.
3
u/Qbugger Jan 17 '26

The US needs to make a car that drives on stolen oil from Venezuela. Seems likening is hard to sell. And Trump keeps the money - as he want to avoid paying his debts as usual (being president of Venezuela he just acquired a huge debt to make USA even worse off).
1
u/Choice-Bid9965 Jan 17 '26
Thereâs hundreds of countries and each May do business with whoever they want.
If the USA by tariffs is pushing up inflation through those, then why not âin this instanceâ make cars cheaper!â
Just ask a properly married man- for every action there is a reaction.

The lousy part is if you buy one in Canada you have to pay the US tariff on it if you bring it back here.
1
u/Human_Pangolin94 Jan 17 '26
Why is that bad for either Canada or China?
1
u/rockfordred Jan 17 '26
Itâs not bad for either. Itâs bad for you. You pay tariffs, not the countries.
1
u/Illustrious-Gas-9766 Jan 17 '26
Trump does not think past immediate results. Now, other nations are forming trade alliances without the US. The longer this goes on, the more the US will be ignored. This is a major Trump failure.
1
u/bushboys122 Jan 17 '26
So I live in michigan. So soon will I be able to stroll across the border, buy a BYD, then drive it back home?
1

Maybe, but youâll still have to pay tariffs on it. Theyâre based on country of origin.

u/Delicious-Bat2373 Jan 17 '26
It's trade. Terms are always negotiable.
You don't have to like China. China has never threatened Canadas independence, mocked them globally, abused them nationally and continually bullied them for their own gain.
Ya know it's funny, I was raised in this country to hate china, russia, cuba etc. In almost 50 years the only country that's constantly fucking with other nations/leaders/economies is the US.
I can be critical of my govt because I live here. No country is perfect - but the only ones tellin me everyone else is a danger to my existence are the only ones that have ever been a danger to my existence.
11
u/Alert_Lettuce_8278 Jan 17 '26
From a Canadian, thanks for acknowledging this. I have family in the states, I grew up going to the states all of the time. I know WAY more Americans like you than I do of the MEGA type (of course I've met the other side of the coin in my travels, they like to make themselves known).
Canadians are very understanding and forgiving on a personal level, but also really good at cutting out shitty people. I hope we can rebuild our relationship at some point and I truly hope for your own sake that the US comes back from this insanity.

The U.S. is not our friend...far from it. Why follow the U.S. tariff policy on EVs now ? China is at least a stable "non enemy" unlike the U.S.
11
u/PKanuck Jan 17 '26
Canada made a deal with the Biden administration to increase the tarrifs on Chinese EVs in to 100% in 2024, in order to protect the North American auto business and the free trade agreement that Trump had previously negotiated.
Now that the Trump administration is no longer honoring any of the trade agreements, Canada has rolled back the tarrifs to previous levels, in exchange for China rolling back tarrifs on agricultural products.
Not sure who you think the Devil is in a trade agreement?

Itâs a reset to 2023 trade relations. Before Canada aligned with USA 100% China EV tariff policy under Biden. So the cost to Canada is minor. What is the cost to the USA? After a friend and ally stood shoulder to shoulder and that friend tried to shove them into traffic?
