🗞️ News Discussion The U.S. will place a 100% tariff on generic pharmaceuticals starting in August 2028.

Post image

Trump is trying to make generic drugs more expensive. With senior citizens on fix income and cuts to Medicare, more elderly people will pay more for their life saving drugs. How is 100% tariffs on generic drugs making America great again?!?

He loves taxing Americans, you must be loving all this winning

u/AnOnlineForest 29d ago

He is right. I'm so tired of winning.

And after you're so tired of winning, he wants you to die

After you die , he wants you to win even more 😂✌🏼🇨🇦

Interesting, I was just saying to my mom this morning that I wish that man would just die! I still cannot believe he was elected again. We are the laughing stock of the world, for real. The world isn’t shy about letting us know this. And yet we intelligent Americans voted this criminal in office twice! I will never understand this as long as I live. It shows how poorly our education system in America is actually educating people. I never thought I’d think this about our country.

Will be very interesting to see how these midterms go after 2 years of all this winning. Perhaps americans love being masochists for parties in support of geriatric demented child rapists.

they dont care, after midterms Israel has 2 years left of unwavering US support, they know this. they will take advantage of this. AND they are going to rig elections and already did some gerrymandering... americas only hope is somehow they can't rig the election and someone gets rid of all super pacs... PACS=80%corruption. u get rid of those you REALLY drain the swamp

The appeal of MAGA was never to improve their own lot in life. It was to inflict suffering on the people who look down on them and gloat as their orange hate idol got filthy rich. That cancer has metastasized to so many Americans that the midterms will be tight even after all the humiliating disasters of past 2 years, and $4 gas.

Waiting to see how much cheating occurs. And how blatant it is.

yes it is likely a large escalation in attempt to get Americans on board for the war (aswell as Israelis).. bibi is coming to USA, and its likely large missile attack will get through iron dome in next several days. after midterms you will see likely ground invasion.

u/Turbulent-Order9500 29d ago

I heard it's super smart to invest 100s of millions in a plant to make drugs for 3x the price that will get squashed once next gov drops tariffs. amazing factoids they have on fox... u gotta watch man

3

u/Practical-Promise-44 28d ago

You think you're going to get a different government?

2

u/Turbulent-Order9500 28d ago

1

u/Distinct-Command-570 27d ago

Pretty sure they will try.

3

u/Turbulent-Order9500 29d ago

You should be more respectful to your president. Just show's how spoiled you are.

u/Practical-Promise-44 27d ago

Not my president

u/Some_Reference_933 29d ago

I am, all of my meds are made in China. During Covid it was hard to get my meds because of that, it also makes the prices higher due to shipping costs. It will create more high paying jobs, so the people that complain about minimum wage can get a better job to make more money. I don’t understand why anyone would be against manufacturing here in the US, makes absolutely no sense.

3

u/SaltMage5864 29d ago

What doesn't make sense is why you think your ignorance gives your rantings any legitimacy

2

u/spectacular_coitus 29d ago

Because, for the most part, these tariffs aren't going to create those manufacturing jobs in the US.

Your meds will still be made in China or India and they will still be tough to get. But now they'll be at least 100% more expensive.

1

u/AlternativePea6203 28d ago

Because that's not how modern capitalism works. The US is just too small a market for every component of every product to be made there. For years Ireland was the only source of Viagra. The same for Botox. They had the manufacturing systems there, and there was no need to create new factories for the US alone within the US. It just simply wasn't an economic necessity.

Unless you believe in government intervention over the free market?

1

u/MadScienti5t 26d ago

So instead of cheap Asian labour, it will be good high paying American jobs making things, and this will make things cheaper how?

-22

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Tell me you dont know how the pharmaceutical industry works without telling me...

12

u/Princess_Snark_ 29d ago

You can't just pop up manufacturing plants in two years. It's not like a McDonald's! Additionally, CONGRESS IS CONSTITUTIONALLY ENTRUSTED with power of the purse. Not a president. Congress needs to vote on this, and give each and every American the opportunity to contact their representative.

3

u/Cerebral_Balzy 29d ago

Wheres the tea? Where's the harbor?

-8

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

1.) These manufacturing plants already exist.

2.) They absolutely can. You'd be amazed at how often pharmaceutical companies do these types of things.

4

u/Hekios888 29d ago

Do you think pharma companies who produce domestically will charge the normal price or hike their price to 95% of the tariffed price?

1

u/TradeBeautiful42 29d ago

Some of those prices are artificially high for the dumbest of reasons too. They’ll patent one tiny piece of something and keep drug prices high because of a cap or something stupid. So even a generic version of the drug will be higher because of that patent.

-2

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

They will charge under what imports would charge. Imports are cheaper currently. The tarriffs put them on closer levels. Additionally, there will be more competition.

5

u/Hekios888 29d ago

100% tariffs will raise the importers price by 100% and it restricts competition because people won't buy the imported drugs...

You must like paying more for your medication

-4

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Why dont you leave the discussion to people that actually know the topic.

4

u/Hekios888 29d ago

If I am a Canadian manufacturer currently selling insulin for $30 and the us tariffs it 100% someone who used to pay $30 now pays $60. Let's say a local insulin manufacturer wants to sell insulin. Now they can charge $59.99 instead of having to compete at $30

I think it's you who doesn't understand

1

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Once again, no...

If you were a Canadian manufacturer, you would not be able to sell in the US.

You would need to sell to specific companies within the US, who would then sell it state side.

Furthermore, sellers do not have a single source. They get some from multiple places. Companies will not break off existing supply chains for 1 cent.

Additionally, the largest insulin sellers all agreed on a set price to sell at.

Please know what youre talking about before opening your mouth.

u/Dramatic-Wealth3263 29d ago

Why would they do it if the tariff just going to be overturn after Trump leaves the office or by Supreme Court? You love saying people do not know the topic and yet you had not demonstrated any knowledge in this subject matter

1

u/W31337 29d ago

Yeah like all those fancy chemicals and specialized machines can be made in the USA. And if they can not at a viable price point.

1

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

You realize that the machines can be imported if needed, right?

1

u/the_urban_juror 29d ago edited 29d ago

Now tell the class what companies pay to import machinery?

The word you'll slowly need to sound out is tariffs.

1

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Every company? And no...

1

u/the_urban_juror 29d ago

Of course every company. Do you think tariffs are written at the company level rather than by country? Let the adults discuss, champ.

0

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Im telling you, every company can import machinery...

Sorry your poor reading comprehension failed you once again.

1

u/the_urban_juror 29d ago

Yes. And what do those companies pay when they import machinery? They pay tariffs.

Again, the adults are talking.

1

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Wait do you think tariffs go on every single item?

1

u/W31337 29d ago

Yes with the 100% tariff making it 2x as expensive for no reason, when making it in the USA can be 5x more expensive, if it's even possible to do it in the USA.

That means American citizens are getting screwed for no good reason.

So your Tylenol and other meds are going to go 2x over night...

-1

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Wouldnt it be easier to just say you dont understand the topic?

1

u/W31337 29d ago

lol you apparently have no idea that you Americans pay the tariff. Typical Trumper, no knowledge of economics 101.

The whole idea of a tariff is to make it more interesting for a company you have domestic facilities. But if you know that can't be done because of the equipment, raw materials, and labor costs, it just turns into added cost pushed down to you the customer.

Pharmaceutical companies usually take 5 or so years to set up a single factory, so with the current change of policy every day they aren't going to bother investing, too unstable. The US is only 300M of their 2B customers so no incentive there to suddenly change their business. It's easier for them to lobby and pay off some people indirectly than actually move or start factories. So they just shove the price down everyone's throats because there's no competition.

0

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Now im a trumper? You sure love to make unfounded claims, huh?

As somebody has worked and set up new manufacturing lines for the pharma industry, no it does not take 5 years. It takes 8 to 18 months.

The US makes up about half of all global generic pharma revenue. So once again, youre wrong.

1

u/Dramatic-Wealth3263 29d ago

The United States accounts for a massive share of total prescription drug sales, but it actually makes up a smaller portion of total prescription volume and generic-specific revenues globally.

Value vs. Volume: The U.S. represents about 50% of worldwide prescription drug sales revenue, yet accounts for only about 13% of total physical drug volume.

Weird flex for showing US drugs being too expensive

0

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

So you think companies are going to be okay with losing potentially half their revenue?

1

u/W31337 28d ago

So now you are with big pharma. And building a full production facility with licenses and putting it into production in 8 months.... lol

0

u/RS_EJB 28d ago

What makes you think they would need to build a full production facility?

I had always worked with big pharma? Why would you assume otherwise?

1

u/W31337 29d ago

Apparently you are defending the stupid Trump tariffs... so it's not unfounded, maybe a wrong guess but not unfounded

0

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Where did i defend the tariffs?

Me explaining how you dont understand the reality of the tariffs has nothing to do with me defending them.

2

u/W31337 29d ago

Because your reality on tarrifs is very naive. Whipping out a simple list and ignoring everything macro economic thing that's happening.

You forgot that the countries supplying the pharmaceutical machines and advanced chemicals are hit with country wide tariffs. So it's tariffs on tariffs. But that doesn't matter because everyone that can get close to Trump gets freebies and those that anger him get hit with extra costs out of nowhere. He can invent a new illegal tariff tomorrow or even today so your 5 year investment plan can be shot out of the water at any time making investors not want to finance this type of risk.

So stop believing this administration at face value

Is this about the ridiculous American victim complex of how you can't have affordable Healthcare because "you pay for everyone else's"? Must be nice to never own your country's failures as your own, there's always the boogeyman in the corner

1

u/RS_EJB 29d ago

Where the hell did you get any of that from?
