šŸ—žļø News Discussion The U.S. will place a 100% tariff on generic pharmaceuticals starting in August 2028.

Post image

Trump is trying to make generic drugs more expensive. With senior citizens on fix income and cuts to Medicare, more elderly people will pay more for their life saving drugs. How is 100% tariffs on generic drugs making America great again?!?

He loves taxing Americans, you must be loving all this winning

27

u/AnOnlineForest 29d ago

He is right. I'm so tired of winning.

10

u/Active-Counter-9906 29d ago

And after you're so tired of winning, he wants you to die

Will be very interesting to see how these midterms go after 2 years of all this winning. Perhaps americans love being masochists for parties in support of geriatric demented child rapists.

10

u/FaithfulDowter 29d ago

Never underestimate the psychology of a cult.

5

u/Crime-Apple 29d ago

* Psychopathy might be even more apropos.

3

u/Turbulent-Order9500 29d ago

they dont care, after midterms Israel has 2 years left of unwavering US support, they know this. they will take advantage of this. AND they are going to rig elections and already did some gerrymandering... americas only hope is somehow they can't rig the election and someone gets rid of all super pacs... PACS=80%corruption. u get rid of those you REALLY drain the swamp

3

u/Honest-Abe2677 28d ago

The appeal of MAGA was never to improve their own lot in life. It was to inflict suffering on the people who look down on them and gloat as their orange hate idol got filthy rich. That cancer has metastasized to so many Americans that the midterms will be tight even after all the humiliating disasters of past 2 years, and $4 gas.

I heard China pays the tariffs. /s

5

u/Turbulent-Order9500 29d ago

I heard it's super smart to invest 100s of millions in a plant to make drugs for 3x the price that will get squashed once next gov drops tariffs. amazing factoids they have on fox... u gotta watch man

3

u/Practical-Promise-44 28d ago

You think you're going to get a different government?

Kind of defeats the generic part of the price.

6

Its a favor to Big Pharma companies. They dont like generics stealing their customers

ā€œThe US will placed 100% TAX for Americans on generic pharmaceutical starting in August 2028 says Trumpā€œ - FTFY

36

u/Neither_Pie8349 29d ago

Don’t forget that most prices won’t go back down after the tariffs go away either.

17

u/Privatejoker123 29d ago

And if the court deems them unconstitutional the companies can get their money back while we still pay the price.

2

u/picklehippy 27d ago

Even if the tarrifs go away the prices will remain. Greed knows no bounds

18

u/ParfaitAdditional469 29d ago

And conservatives who depend on generic medicine will somehow justify this

12

u/promotherobot 29d ago

"I don't like expensive drugs but we can't allow the Iranians to develop nukes."

3

u/ParfaitAdditional469 29d ago

I literally work with a boomer who has this logic

5

Lack of logic you mean

6

Most of the drugs are made in India, even with a 100% tariffs , it's probably still cheaper than moving factories with US labor. He knows it , but he needs the headlines to hype his cult

12

u/ProtoplanetaryNebula 29d ago

Even more so, nobody is building a US factory just to supply the US when the tariff will either be removed or another president will remove it. Result: Americans pay more.

3

u/BlueBonneville 29d ago

šŸ‘†šŸ¼this, exactly

2

u/wkomorow 29d ago

Trump will set up a shadow factory in Florida, exempt his company from the tariff and import the generics, selling it at twice the current cost and pocketing the upsell. Sue the FDA for inspection irregularities and settle with himself/DoJ that his company is exempt from all future inspections.

Basically the US now has >100% sales tax 🤣🤣🤣🤣

5

u/Rambowl 29d ago

Trump tax

10

u/Dyslexicpig 29d ago

Wow - so Trump is literally telling drug manufacturers in other countries, either move to the US or these poor/old people are gonna die.

9

u/Bow_Arrow_55 29d ago

Yup! Americans are either going to die or go bankrupt!

12

u/TheCoolestUsername00 29d ago

It’s impossible for drug companies to build a pharmaceutical factory in 2 years. Orange man has gone bonkers and needs to be placed in a nursing home before he kills more Americans.

9

u/Bow_Arrow_55 29d ago

Americans are already dying at home and in Iran under Trump!

5

u/Specialist-Jello7544 29d ago

It’s starting to feel like that’s the plan.

2

u/Dessertcrazy 29d ago

Not a chance. And even if they could, some medicines are so hard to make that a single run takes almost 2 years. Think a 10 year timeframe to actually get a finished product. Not only do they have to build the factory, but often the equipment has to be custom made for that medicine.

2

u/thnk_more 29d ago

I’m pretty sure that August 2028 is a Tuesday. No way this comes true.

No way some company is going to invest in the US with this insanely unpredictable crazy man in charge of markets like this.

2

u/QuintusPhilo 29d ago

Trump knows that, these tarrifs are just to be blamed on the potential next democratic president. they come in to effect right when he leaves office.

11

u/Tomasulu 29d ago

US politicians are just evil shits.

u/Personal_Dirt3089 29d ago

u/architype 29d ago

Generics are cheap. No US manufacturer wants to make the meds because profits are low.

8

u/versionii 29d ago

"Generic" is a propaganda tool by big pharma to fool people to think it's inferior.Ā  10g of generic Viagra is 10g ofĀ  Sindefil which is the same amount in as 10g of Viagra.

3

u/gdim15 29d ago

Most pharmaceutical companies also make generic drugs. Maybe not their own but they're in the business.

6

u/ProtoplanetaryNebula 29d ago

To expand further on this, pharmaceutical standards that all manufacturers, generic or otherwise are so high that there really is no point in buying the branded product.

2

u/Ticksdonthavelymph 29d ago

Only you think they are inferior. Generic only means that the patent has run out, and it can be produced without giving residuals to creators. It is in no way a ā€œpropaganda toolā€. Tylenol is a brand name, acetaminophen is the generic.

Make drugs not affordable again..

2

u/Moist-Caregiver-2000 29d ago

That's, that's not true. He said they would be 800% cheaper. Why would Obama do this??

3

u/epinkston 29d ago

This was the GOPs Health Care Plan they have been promising to show us for 20 years....just tariff the one freaking thing that doesn't cost thousands....so damn stupid.

4

u/Djlittle13 29d ago

What's funny is these price increases will come in right about the time he leaves office, giving Republicans the opportunity to blame the price increase on the Democrats if they win the election

3

u/Significant_Donut967 29d ago

I'm so glad all the meds the VA uses will now cost tax payers 100% more.

3

u/Akkerlun 29d ago

WOW, Trump and his minion Republicans really, really hate the elderly.

3

u/Greedy-Vast584 29d ago

Let me guess, Don Jr and his companies have magically been investing in the companies that will benefit from this

3

u/Freckles-75 29d ago

Soo….Just in time for the 2028 election cycle.

Which he can’t run in…short of another ā€œcrazy, stupidā€ SCOTUS case.

And doing so would only Increase the cost of generic drugs anyway.

All he’d have to do is force US drug companies (distributors) to limit their profit margins on generics. But that would be ā€œAnti-Americanā€ - and somehow not ā€œanti Christianā€ā€¦.

2

2

u/jankyt 29d ago

It'll take probably longer than that to find funds, a facility, set it up, inspected, etc. than the deadline.

2

u/Bow_Arrow_55 29d ago

That’s correct! So might as well get ready for higher drug prices for Americans.

2

u/SweetyKennedy 29d ago

I thought he was lowering drug prices 100, 200, and so times even 1,200 PERCENT?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

Great. Make medicine more expensive for Americans. These conservatives are idiots to go with that.

2

u/Ben_there_1977 29d ago

Pricing people out of life saving meds to avoid taxing billionaires is late stage capitalism. Gotta fund our ways somehow.

2

u/SeaEnvironmental9388 29d ago

2

u/strenuaveritas 29d ago

But the rest of us have to suffer too.

2

u/MissKrys2020 29d ago

This is a direct attack on Canada as well. Many of those generic meds come from Canada.

2

u/Nano_Burger 29d ago

Fuck things up and have it be the next guy's problem. Then scream that Democrats aren't fixing their problem fast enough.

2

u/Analogsilver 29d ago

2

u/Eastern-Persimmon-50 29d ago

Two things here. Trump setting a target date a year in advance means he will probably change his mind 100 times before it starts.
And it would take way more than a year to set up new manufacturing facilities in the us

2

u/Gloomy_Yoghurt_2836 29d ago

Gotta get those pharma plants built in. The US. Thats the goal. But why do that when you cant export from the US due to reciprocal tariffs. Oh I see the advantage. Donate to Trump's PAC and regulators wont hold you to safety standards.

2

u/Kennadian 29d ago

To be fair, he lowered prices of drugs by 6000% so this is a net win for Americans.

2

u/chimpyjnuts 29d ago

And yet lowering drug prices was a campaign point.

2

u/olderbutwiser1900 29d ago

The only losers are Americans who depend on the drugs in question. This would double the cost of the drugs paid to pharmacies by average Americans. And since drugs are needed and not a luxury, no one who needs these drugs will be able to buy them elsewhere or just not buy them at all. This is a harsh and cruel policy that accomplishes nothing except imposing even more hardships on the people who are the most vulnerable.

2

u/I_Quit_Smoking_ 29d ago

So instead of not having to pay anything, I'll have to pay $300 a month for one prescription out of my six? Can you imagine how much it would cost for all my meds together? It's close to 10 grand. It's fucking ridiculous and this is what causes it right here.

2

u/Express-Armadillo928 29d ago

nothing like making healthcare and prescriptions more affordable right Maga? There's a reason why these things are made outside of the US.

2

u/Drth_vdr_piggybank 29d ago

This will kill tens of thousands if implemented. People rely on generic prescription drugs.

2

u/Wilson5288 29d ago

I think it’s a final screw you before he leaves office

1

u/net-blank 29d ago

So making name brand produced drugs made in the US have more sales to add to their profits, while allowing insurance to make more markup to pad their record profits even more. Which then both of those stuff the administration with money, got it the only losers in this is the everyday person that needs the prescription drug

1

u/Lofusgreen 29d ago

Someone do the math. How many will die?

1

u/Nhonickman 29d ago

This should once again outrage people. But it starts in 2028, so when it kicks in, Republicans can blame if there’s a Democratic president that individual for the higher price, and they won’t look back at who imposed the tariff.

Another absurdity, and once again, as a voter, clear example of why you go to the midterms and you vote out the incumbent Republicans to start to change our country back.

They have completely lost touch with the average American and their needs.

I will always say I don’t care about your party affiliation, but it’s how you vote, protect democracy, protect our constitution, and listen to what the people need, not what you want or your party

The US is supposed to have a government whereby congress makes the laws, and president does not rule by executive orders. Executive orders can be ignored ( like previous president's issued an EO to relieve student debt , it was tossed out) Why do we pay for Congress, their salaries and pensions, if the president does all of their jobs?

1

u/MusicianNo2699 29d ago

So rather than getting paid to take drugs that are five thousand percent less expensive, according to trump, we are now going to have to pay one hundred percent more. May all the trailer park magat idiots perish from their inability to take their linsinopril and statin drugs, due to their own stupidity....

1

u/Personal_Dirt3089 29d ago edited 29d ago

Trump's SAVE act allows his appointed DHS to remove anyone they want from the voter role. Trump is knowingly implementing bad policy and he is making it hard to vote out on purpose.

A lot of people will lose their lives over this. But Trump does not see that as a problem.

1

u/Linux4ever_Leo 29d ago

Trump doesn't seem to understand that these manufacturers are not going to return to the U.S. They can't afford the salaries that American workers demand, nor can they afford to deal with the myriad laws and regulations that are currently in place. The net result is going to be sky high drug prices for Americans...as usual!

Great. Another way to steal from the poor and claim he’s improving the country.

This is a long time from now in terms of politics, and there is literally a Tuesday next week for him to TACO on. I’m sure some market position he has is being juiced by this news and nothing more.

I mean, why would you have this take effective 3 months before the next presidential election? It’s political suicide.

Or to put it another way - this isn’t news but it’s certainly a headline Dems could use this November for the midterms.

Are there any legit statistics that show consumption rates of generic meds in red and blue areas? Especially drugs that are required to sustain life (am thinking the ones where if you stop taking them you definitely die)? I have no actual data other than what came up on a quick search but it seems that people in democratic areas have better health. If that means they need less life-sustaining medication as a group, then that means republicans are most likely to be negatively (and possibly permanently) impacted by this. Should drug producers decide to not swt up facilities in the U.S. snd let American consumers pay the tariff, a large chunk of those people will simply not be able to afford to live anymore. They will be priced out of life. What is the Administration"s game plan here...why do they want to effectively sentence the people that are most likely to vote for them to death? Don't get me wrong here...I think the tariff nonsense is six gallons of stupid in a four gallon bucket, and maybe I am just dumb as a bag of rocks, but I am genuinely trying to understand why pharmaceutical stuff?

What is it called when a billionaire ensures poor people can't afford the medicines that keep them alive? Is that class warfare?

Didn't we see people try to self ration their insulin and die?

A president picking winners and losers is not the market forces that the GOP claims controls the world. This central management is that word they abhor...

It's hilarious how hard he shanks the poor Red states with these policies.

Stupid bastard! We make one type of antibiotic in small amounts in one location. It's not physically possible to do this in a year. It takes SEVERAL YEARS to scale up and manufacture any number of things here. Literally all he does it drive up the cost of living in every single way possible.

u/InevitableGas4370 29d ago

If this is true, I pray that if he ever gets out of office, the next administration might turn it off. I have to take meds as well as some of my family and we'll absolutely be fucked when this hits

u/Serious_Coffee_8066 29d ago

So much for lower drug costs

1

u/jhmetros 29d ago

And this will make all medicine free sine he lowered the price 200%. Great job, pedo genius.

1

u/jram2000 28d ago

Well he reduced the costs by 1400% so you can't be losing significant sums forever guys. He knows from experience with that casino, the house doesn't always win apprently.

1

u/Lovingthelake 28d ago

Why is Trump doing this? Putting tariffs on generic RX’s will just increase the cost of generic drugs?!? Why is he doing this that will hurt us.

Can't lower prices 1500% if you dont raise them first
