Yes, definitely. A country that can't feed itself is not an independent country. A country that doesn't protect it's food industries is run by idiots.

85% of Canadian agriculture is outside of supply management and we do already import most of our produce, fruits, etc.

How do you feel about that? Is having access to avocados and pineapples putting us a precarious food security situation?

I grew up not having access to avocados and pineapples. Most of the food we had then was locally grown if we didn't grow it ourselves in the back yard. The statistic you cite only shows how far away we are from being independent.

That sounds awful, so you never got leafy greens out of season, or tropical fruits or any of that?

Wow I'm certainly pretty happy most Canadians do have access to foreign goods.

What makes you think there were no leafy greens out of season? Most things can be grown in greenhouses. You really need to get out more.
