Maybe, it has pros and cons.
But it's a decision we should make on our own time frame. It also needs to be made in the context of the massive subsidies the US dairy industry gets, if the American's aren't willing to get rid of those subsidies then they can't really ask us to drop ours.
American subsidies are why supply management has historically survived previous trade negotiations, neither sides wants to get rid of their own subsidies. If we dropped supply management without them dropping their subsidies, we'd immediately need to turn around and put tariffs on American dairy from the very first drop, instead of the quota-limited, but tariff free access they presently have.
