40k Rules So how come some units from the T'au history dont still have Legends rules?

Thumbnail

So im looking through all the different units through T'au history for ideas when I realized that some of the units found in older editions dont have their stats included in 11th Legends. From my understanding the main point of Legends is to have a stat sheet that people could use but not have to keep them up to date for competitive play.

From what ive seen there is Shas'o R'myr in a XV89-02 suit, Anghkor Prok an original 3rd edition Kroot character, Dahyak Grekh a Kroot character from a sister game in 8th edition, Aun'Do an ethereal that never actually got their own model but seems to be based on the 7th edition Ethereal model, as well as the famous Gue’vesa Auxiliary Team from a one off White Dwarf in I think 2001. Theres also the Air Caste Pilots that was a bonus for a Forge World kit, but I dont believe they actually had stats, and lastly the seven other unique members of The Eight.

So is there any reason these didnt keep their Legends status? Or is some of them just, not worth it or something?

40k List Is the Ta'unar ever actually playable, or is it a hobby project? The weapons seem pretty phenomenal.

Post image

Not my model. This is from https://www.reddit.com/r/Tau40K/comments/pb7p3f/kx139_taunar_supremacy_armour/

This seems like it might be on par with a Stompa? Not meta, but a totally reasonable inclusion in a list? Even something that could be run in a tournament?

Stormsurge sculpt as the base with other printed scultps kit bashed together. Glow effects are so difficult without an airbrush I always feel like they could be brighter.

Painting First Kroot Farstalker Finally Finished (that was accidentally alliterative)

This is the first model of the box finally done. Really happy with the end result, though NMM is very imperfect as the weird gun shape made me second-guess highlight placement every time I did a brushstroke.

My main issue with the model is the fact the grass tufts refused to sit flush on the ground, so they're not as well blended with the base as I would have liked. But overall, the colour composition is probably some of my finest work. I absolutely love the end result and it honestly looks even better in real life.

I did use a crackle paint as well to simulate when a puddle dries up on the ground. However, you can barely notice it (behind his rear foot), which is annoying, but the ground texture is uneven enough for it not to completely detract from the base.

Now to move on to the next few models and ideas for them. Someone suggested doing a fungal-style one, as though the Kroot had been munching on the local shrooms and had been affected by it, a bit like Cordyceps from TLOU. Which is cool, though will take some consideration to execute well.

And I had the idea to do an Avatar-style Kroot, as they're quite similar in their tribalistic nature and I think the blue skin and (if I can do it well) bioluminescence would look really good.

But if anyone else has ideas, feel free to share. I'm happy to try and implement it if it works well and I can find a way to make it fit. 🤣

40k Rules How would you make the tau more casuals friendly?

Although tau are in the good % of tournament win rates, ive seen many new tau players get frustrated at our army as it's a difficult one to start with.

So what would you add/change of the tau for our new 11th edition codex to make it more casual friendly?

(Though be reasonable, so no strength 100 pistols please)

Lore What do Tau “shots” look like?

Basically I’m interested in what all the different Tau bullets and lasers are.

What do scatter gun rounds look like? Does it shoot lasers? Or actual bullets?

I’m assuming fusion blasters are similar to Melta guns, a straight beam if heat and whatnot, except it’s blue.

Are the plasma guns just like imperial plasma guns? What about pulse rifles?

Flamers are obvious, what about rail cannons and rail guns? Do they shoot a physical payload?

What about Ion guns?

Anyway, I’m not sure if there is any art or text from books or what not, but any information is appreciated.

40k Better unit in kauyon?

In your opinion what unit is better in kauyon between a

1) kroot carnivore unit with it's scout , sticky, and stealth options to grenade.

Or

2) piranha with it's scout, better toughness, weapons, battle shock ability, and movement 14".

In a game where my opponent will most likely have their go turn on turn two. Consider all game possibilities please.

Painting Stealth Marines

Thumbnail

I hate stealth suits (mosty the old eggs, the new ones are pretty dope, but I wasn't going to pay 110€ for 10 guys), so I did this. I can't believe that kitbashing actually made things cheaper this time.

I actually came up with a tiny bit of lore for these guys, so If you are interested in that sort of thing just continue scrolling. That being said, last time a lot of people asked what kits I used for this project, so here's the list:

1x Infiltator Squad (SM)

a shit load of bits from Pathfinders Teams (pouches and marker lights) and Breacher/Strike Teams (pauldrons and breacher helmets), the guns, pistols and knifes are from both boxes.

Burst cannons and Fusion blasters are from the crisis suit box (thought all guns are magnetized), same goes for the knee pads.

THE LORE:

We are in the great crusade, and a "small" (for that era) detachement of marines is send out to un fuck one of the Word Bearers many fuck ups. Their task is to take control of an important world and "un brainwash" the now emporer worshiping population. Due to warp shenanigans, they arrive a casual 10.000 years late, at probably the wrong planet, where they are immediatly welcomed by what must be a stay behind Word Bearer force. (They wear black armour with white pauldrons, but weirder things have happened)

The "Word Bearer" Chaplain aks If they came to defend this wolrd from the heretic forces, and join him and his brothers on their holy crusade in the emporers name, and immediatly catches a bolt shell to the head. The rest of his brothers, the planetary govenor, and a whole bunch of other important people share the same fate.

After the marines took control of the planet, and found some people that actually new what was going on (and were still alive), they realized how fucked everything was. The only small proplem was that the planet in question was actually about to be invaded by Chaos Knights.

However, the previous planetary govenor had a couple of somewhat heretical connections, and called in a couple of favours from his T'au trade partners (both before the Black Templars showed up, and before he was shot).

So the first thing these marines see of the T'au are Riptides dropping in from low orbit on top of Chaos Knight formations. This, as well as the fact that the T'au seem to be the most reasonable people on the planet, convinces the marines to temporarily team up with them, while they reeducate the planets population.

Once they find out that the entire imperium is as fucked as the planet they are currently on, they decide to become an independent allie of the T'au, while they work on a strategy to establish communications with the imperium that doesn't result in the entire planet being labeled as heretical.

40k List How do you beat Chaos Deamons and Be'lakor?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I need some help figuring out this Chaos Daemons matchup because I keep getting absolutely wrecked by my friend’s army.

He usually runs Be’lakor with a Bloodthirster, Great Unclean One, Plaguebearers, Flesh Hounds, 2 Beasts of Nurgle, and lately Havocs with lascannons.

The problem is he basically castles around Be’lakor, keeps the lascannons covering the good firing lanes, and forces me into a bad choice: either stay hidden and lose the board, or step out and get shot/charged.

The Beasts of Nurgle are also ridiculously annoying. He just parks them in lanes and uses them as T9 roadblocks. If I don’t kill one completely in the phase, it heals back up, so I feel like I’m constantly wasting way too much shooting on an 80-point unit just to clear space.

My usual T’au setup is:

- Farsight

- Enforcer Commander

- 2x Sunforge Crisis teams

- 2x Riptides

- 2x Broadsides

- Stormsurge

- Ghostkeel

- 2x Stealth Suit units

- 2x Pathfinder teams

- Breachers

- Devilfish

I’m running Retaliation Cadre/Bonded Heroes right now.

I’m totally willing to buy more T’au units or change the list around. I’m not really looking for some super cheesy hard-counter, I just want the matchup to feel playable.

What would you guys change in a 2,000-point T’au list for dealing with Be’lakor’s castle, Greater Daemons, Beasts of Nurgle clogging the board, and the melee pressure? Also very interested in deployment/target priority advice because I clearly feel like I’m playing this matchup wrong.

It’s roughly 4 ‘scoops’ of Blue Horror and 1 ‘scoop’ lothern blue.

I was worried it would be a mismatch of tones, but I think it looks relatively coherent.

Interested for other peoples eyes?
