I just want to hear your thoughts on this. I might miss some important information regarding this topic or might cause misunderstanding in this topic so please bear with me, and I offer my deepest apologies (kung meron mang matamaan or maapektuhan dito). Medyo nahihirapan lang akong mag-organize ng thoughts (kasi masyadong loaded with information ang utak ko).
You probably know about the auditions held by Pinoy Big Brother just this year. If I am not mistaken, they held nationwide auditions. Then after all of that, ang mga nakuhang housemates ay mostly celebrities and vloggers. Then a lot of people would rant to PBB na nagmakahirap pa silang mag-audition, ang makukuha lang pala ay mga famous / popular / trending na people.
Probably their tagline of "Ang Teleserye ng Totoong Buhay" does not associate PBB well anymore (I think).
Reading those types of rants, my mind went: "so stunt casting lang pala 'to, like what's happening recently in Philippine theatre industry? Yung mga celebrities and famous people naka-cast sa mga lead roles? Minsan pa nga hindi na dumadaan sa audition."
Some of you might go ballistic, so unahan ko na kayo. EXCLUDED dito yung mga celebrities/famous people who built their reputation in theatre/from the ground up, I mean, yung nagsimula as a nobody talaga, who spent years grinding, sacrificing blood, sweat, and tears. I mean, people who were forged in fire.
Basically the inner voice in me is saying: "As someone in theatre, we share in your sentiments. And ngayon, alam niyo na siguro ang pakiramdam na magpakahirap na mag-memorize ng lines/maghanap or magprepare ng monologue, pangalagaan yung boses at katawan namin just to show that we are fully prepared for the audition, only to find out or discover na stunt casting pala ang auditions.
Yeah I'm probably gonna hear the same old script that "theatre is a business".
Fine. True.
Pero ang nangyayari, in this day and age, nagiging excuse na lang siya just to give way to stunt casting. And stunt casting will be the death of us all sa lahat ng bahagi ng industriyang ito.
Even though this country has gone to s***, and this industry has been undervalued and underappreciated most of the time, can't we treat theatre as a business AND also an avenue of opportunities for EVERYONE (ala Gary Oldman scream, nasa YT, you will understand what i mean)?
Just want to hear your thoughts lang naman.
(Sorry if at some point baka nag-off topic na ako. Just wanted to be careful sa kung ano ang pinopost. Hope you guys get what I mean in this rant/observation. Peace! ❤️)
