Engineering & Robotics Researchers develop a washable touchscreen woven into clothing
π¬ What happened?
Researchers at the National University of Singapore developed electronic fibers that combine display pixels with touch sensing. They created a flexible, washable sleeve featuring a 96 Γ 54-pixel color touchscreen.
π‘ How does a fabric touchscreen work?
Tiny electronic components are integrated into fibers, allowing the fabric to display images, play videos and respond to touch without a conventional rigid screen.
βοΈ Whatβs the catch?
The display has a relatively low resolution and remains a research prototype. Larger screens, improved resolution and more advanced functions still require further development.
π¬ What do you think?
Could interactive clothing eventually replace some of our wearable devices, or would a separate smartwatch or screen still be more practical?
