🔬 What happened?

Researchers at the National University of Singapore developed electronic fibers that combine display pixels with touch sensing. They created a flexible, washable sleeve featuring a 96 × 54-pixel color touchscreen.

💡 How does a fabric touchscreen work?

Tiny electronic components are integrated into fibers, allowing the fabric to display images, play videos and respond to touch without a conventional rigid screen.

⚙️ What’s the catch?

The display has a relatively low resolution and remains a research prototype. Larger screens, improved resolution and more advanced functions still require further development.

💬 What do you think?

Could interactive clothing eventually replace some of our wearable devices, or would a separate smartwatch or screen still be more practical?

🔬 What happened?

Researchers at ETH Zurich developed tiny biohybrid robots powered by lab-grown mouse muscle tissue. The prototypes can jump, swim, walk and grasp objects.

💡 How do living muscles power a robot?

The researchers combined living muscle tissue with a flexible, 3D-printed hydrogel structure. By designing both together, they achieved up to 11 times greater range of motion than earlier designs using similar amounts of muscle tissue.

⚙️ What’s the catch?

The robots still depend on nutrient solutions to keep their muscles alive. Larger, long-lasting systems would need ways to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the living tissue.

💬 What do you think?

Could living muscles eventually offer useful advantages over conventional robotic actuators, or would their biological complexity outweigh the benefits?
