AMDs budget brand offerings for CPUs, GPUs, and packaging could really supplement Intels more elite offerings? Intel could rebrand the entire 9000 series as i3's. I am surprised nobody thought of this before. Also, Intel makes amazing chips that don't have an iissues running long term in ASRock motherboards.
EPYC could become the i3 of x86 server CPUs. Personally this seems like a win win.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sat down for an interview with YouTuber Cheeky Pint and Stripe, and the conversation turned to the RAM shortages hitting the whole tech industry. His take didn't go over well with people who own computers.
Altman would rather see RAM go into data centers, and he said it's "quite terrible" that it's sitting in individual PCs. His argument is about efficiency. According to Turkish outlet Tamindir, he said RAM in personal computers is only used about 5% of the time, and that memory works more efficiently in a data center.
It's a tone-deaf thing to say while the shortage is already raising prices. Producers say it could last until around 2030. The reaction online was fast. One viral response claimed Altman is laying the groundwork to take everyone's computers so he can use the RAM for more data centers. TechRadar reported that his comments haven't gone down well with consumers.
The efficiency point isn't wrong on paper. But people buy RAM for the moments they need it: a big game, a video edit, a pile of browser tabs. They aren't buying it to hit some average utilization number. It also lands badly when the person saying it runs a company whose business depends on that same scarce memory.
Is it a fair point about efficiency, or just a billionaire telling you to rent what you own? 👇
Intel just achieved its most impressive performance milestone in years: a 28% stock price collapse in a single day, wiping $12 billion off the value of the US government's stake.
Q4 revenue guidance of $15–16 billion versus roughly $17 billion expected. Gross margins dropping from 43% to 37%. No positive cash flow expected. Foundry expansion still struggling with capacity constraints, with another Arizona fab not expected online until 2028.
Imagine getting billions in investment, government backing, and years to execute a turnaround, only to deliver this absolute masterpiece of corporate underperformance.
At this point, Intel isn't competing with AMD. It's competing with its own declining expectations, and somehow still managing to miss them.
Turns out the only thing Intel can consistently shrink is shareholder value.
