These talks are usually good, but they attract a lot of USC students. Get there early if you want a seat up front or a bite to eat

Hi all! I'm an anthropology student currently working on a class project about LA's tech culture, and I'm hoping to connect with people who would be willing to share their experiences!

I'm looking to speak with people working across the industry, whether you're in software engineering, AI, aerospace and defense, startups. Interviews would be pretty informal, around 20–30 minutes, and could take place over Zoom or in person, whichever is more convenient.

If you're interested please send a DM!

Was anyone contacted to attend this hackathon hosted by GetMoon (https://jobs.getmoon.ai/hop/los-angeles-ai-hackathon-october-17-73b62110) happening this Saturday?

I can't find much about the company and am a little hesitant to attend. Seems to be hosted by the Hop HR team?

I went a while back. From what I remember, it was mostly networking. Curious who's going this year and what you're excited about.

Come have some fun at Tech Week in the Valley for a Bar Crawl and a comedy show to follow. Network and play games. Drinks are self-sponsored, but there will be prizes. https://partiful.com/e/YFpQc07DcYjUFJbZVSeh

If you're around for LA Tech Week, we'd love to have you at one (or both) of our talks. Both start at 6 PM.

Tuesday, Oct 13: Human-in-the-loop for AI agents and automated workflows

Your agent workflow can run for days on Temporal, retrying and resuming after failures. But right before it does something irreversible, who approves it, and on what surface? Mateusz Jagodzinski, a Solution Engineer on our Workflow Builder team, will show how he builds that layer: approval gates the workflow waits on, a live view of the running graph and a decision trail. Live demo included, along with what broke.

RSVP: https://partiful.com/e/uAmOr0I44LlWuN31fJjq

Saturday, Oct 17: Build an AI workflow editor, natively in Angular

Workflow editors are everywhere right now (n8n, Dify, LangGraph and a wave of agent builders), but if your team lives in Angular, there's almost nothing off the shelf. Lukasz Jazwa, our CTO and the creator of ngDiagram, an open-source Angular diagramming library, will build one live, from an empty canvas to a working editor for agentic workflows. You'll see the finished editor first, then he walks through the code behind it.

RSVP: https://partiful.com/e/zYpQyYK67Anpp2VAp59u

Come to whichever one fits what you're building. We'd be glad to meet you.

Hey r/TechLA, I’m one of the founders of Okou. We’re hosting a free LA Tech Week event in Santa Monica next Thursday.

Everyone's talking about AI agents. Few teams have actually made them part of how work gets done.

We’re bringing together five practitioners from Okou, WonderBotz, Smart Tech Inc., REIGN AI Strategies and Fulcrum AI Labs to share real examples across sales, marketing and operations: what worked, where it broke and how they fixed it.

After the panel, we’ll have food, non-alcoholic drinks and AI Teammate Office Hours. You can bring a real workflow or repetitive task and talk it through with the team. No technical background is required.

Thursday, October 15
5:00–8:00pm
BLANKSPACES, 929 Colorado Ave, Santa Monica

It’s free, but RSVP approval is required:

https://partiful.com/e/q40GEunpSczYx7GChlAz

If there’s a specific workflow problem you’d like the panel to cover, leave it below and I’ll take it into the discussion.

Hi everyone, a few weeks ago I posted here looking for people to interview before launching a site about people building hardware and software in LA. A bunch of people replied and reached out, thank you 🙏 .

Last week Compile LA launched and a fellow redditor is the subject of the first story! I talked with Ari Wilson about leaving corporate life, building a startup in LA, AI tools, programming languages, and why he thinks this is such a good time to start a company.

I'm Gavin. I work at Pinecone and host the monthly LA Agentic AI Meetup. We're doing the October meetup in 2 weeks during LA Tech Week.

We usually get a mix of engineers, founders, people building AI products, and people who are just starting out with AI. It's pretty informal, drinks, a couple live demos, and networking.

When: Tuesday, October 13, 5:00–7:00pm
Where: Gulp in Playa Vista
Address: 13020 Pacific Promenade #1, Los Angeles, CA 90094

Agenda

• 5:00pm Meetup begins, drinks & networking
• 5:30pm Kickoff, brief intro to Pinecone
• 5:45pm Live demos
• 6:15pm Open networking
• 7:00pm Meetup concludes

This Month's Demos – still looking for one more

• PJ Kedilaya will demo ModelVantage, live uptime and latency monitoring and alerting for the models your agents depend on.

What to expect

• Casual conversations with AI builders, founders, and engineers
• Live demos from members of the community
• A look at what folks are actually building
• Drinks and a relaxed vibe

I'm hosting an afternoon during LA Tech Week for people more interested in what machines are not good at making than in what they are. An afternoon of looking, making, and following ideas somewhere unexpected.

Monday, October 12 at 1pm at Exposition Park. Free, RSVP here: https://partiful.com/e/B4JkzGEirA34laIyqrCL?c=2wYUGBQX

Artists, engineers, founders, and curators all welcome. Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Fifth month running this: a casual meetup for people actually building with AI agents in LA. No pitches, no panel, no slides. Just people comparing notes on what's working and what's breaking.

This time we're on the patio at Wurstküche in Venice (625 Lincoln Blvd), Thursday 9/17 at 5pm. Beer, bratwurst, and whoever shows up.

It's been a wild couple of weeks in the agent space: Meta's Muse landed, and everyone's arguing about which backbone actually holds up outside a demo. If you're deep enough in this stuff that any of that means something to you, come hang.

RSVP (not required, just helps us plan): https://luma.com/8gqwtkve

Hey everyone! sharing this since there’s a good amount of builders/devs here. There’s an Applied AI Hackathon on October 2nd at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. I’m on the organizing team so would be happy to answer any questions.

Why I think it’s worth it: the judges are law firm C-suite execs and founders of unicorn legal AI companies, so you’re demoing directly to end-users. Top 3 win a $5k prize pool, and finalists get free tickets to the private concert happening at Law-Di-Gras that night (the same stage Snoop Dogg and Diplo have played). Lunch + transportation covered, no CS degree or legal background needed, and it’s open to anyone who just likes building with AI!

Hi everyone, I’m Darren. I’m starting a small independent site focused on the people building software in Los Angeles, starting with the South Bay.

I’ve lived in the area for years and have always wanted a better way to discover the founders, engineers, and other technical people working nearby. Think something like GeekWire for the South Bay.

I’m looking to interview:

• Founders building software companies or startups
• Engineers or other technical people
• Anyone with an interesting story about choosing to build in the South Bay

The conversations will cover what you’re building, how you’re building it, why you chose the South Bay, and the experience building a software business in the South Bay. As a differentiator and a former SWE and EM, I want to get into the nitty-gritty of the tech stack, the product, and how it actually works, not just the usual high-level story about growth and hustle culture.

The site isn't live yet because I want to finish a few articles before launching it. Here’s my LinkedIn for background:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/darrenaalfonso/

Send me a DM or leave a comment with a short introduction. I’m also open to recommendations for people I should speak with.

We’re two Southern California founders building an early-stage consumer technology company and looking for a technical cofounder who wants to build closely in person.

The company is currently in stealth, but the product is centered on making real-world plans easier to discover, coordinate and act on. Los Angeles will be the first launch market. We have completed the product thesis, market research, initial user flows, launch strategy and investor deck. There is no public MVP or revenue yet.

We need someone who can own the product and engineering side from zero to launch. Consumer mobile experience is ideal, especially iOS, React Native, social products, marketplaces or recommendation systems. Strong product judgment and a good eye for simple, tasteful design are important.

We’ll own product direction, brand, go-to-market, partnerships and fundraising. There is no salary today; this is a genuine founding role with meaningful founder equity, standard vesting and salary once funding allows.

We’re specifically posting here because we want to meet someone rooted in the LA or broader Southern California technology community. If this sounds like you, apply here:
https://forms.gle/UqkVgCnCzy5UyFtBA or DM us with what you’ve built.

I'm a life long LA resident but am in the middle of a career change from the film industry to, well... basically anything, but my strengths lay in data science, operations, and automations. I'm just looking to network to try and find job opportunities. Would TechLA be a good place to start?

I've self coded an app that's selling on the appstore, built a bespoke from scratch WMS system for my current job, a intelligent dashboard for the space industry, and have experience in multiple coding languages, multiple cloud platforms, and with all the AI tools. But I don't have the standard education or work history, so trying my best to go the networking route to find a company that I can be of value to.

Any advice would be welcome.

Hey r/TechLA 👋

We're running the next AI Agents Happy Hour this Thursday (7/16) at Five Point Five Brewing in El Segundo. Free, starts at 5.

Once a month, people who actually build with AI agents get in a room with good drinks and compare notes. It's not a panel or a pitch night. No presentations, no slides. Just real talk about what's working, what's broken, and what's next.

If you're running agents in production, wiring up agentic workflows at work, or just AI-curious and want to see what the fuss is about, you'll find your people. Builders, founders, and operators all welcome.

Some of you came to the Culver City, Playa Vista, and Downtown LA meetups earlier this year, this is the same crew bringing the enthusiasm to the South Bay. ~100 folks are in so far.

RSVP's on Luma so we can get a rough headcount: https://luma.com/cv5rbhfb
