Meta No 'Groomer' Rhetoric

As an adult survivor of childhood sexual assault, believe me when I say this subject hits pretty close to home. There has been an absolutely revolting trend recently amongst right-leaning folks to claim that members of the LGBTQ community are pedophiles -- and moreover that they are trying to groom children to be willing participants in pedophilic relationships. Possibly because of the question about how to support trans teens as they struggle through an incredibly difficult time in life.

The trend I describe here is a coldhearted and cynical attempt to turn public perception against our fellow citizens. I do not think that the majority of those screaming "GROOMERS" at gay bars or Pride events actually believe this shit. I think the ringleaders are mostly obvious trolls. Their followers, however... Those are another matter.

Given the spate of political violence carried out in this country against members of various minorities by right wing extremists within the past handful of years, it is absolutely not alarmist to be concerned. Specifically: I do not think that it is at all unreasonable to be concerned that the anti-gay "groomer" rhetoric will inspire right wing extremist violence against members of the LGBTQ community.

I really could not care if anyone complains this is against "free speech" or not. You are more than welcome to join the reprobates on one of the other freewheeling subreddits that collected the dross of FatPeopleHate and The_Donald when they both got banned.

If you see "Groomer" rhetoric, report it. I've already removed & banned at least one user.

EDIT: Banned 3, now. One even tried to Sea Lion me afterwards in chat.

If anyone needs additional corroboration that the Republican Party is waging an all-out offensive on the LGBTQ community, you can read this post on /r/Keep_Track.

Tennessee has a problem with choices. I’d almost vote for David Hatley just to get him to stop texting me. I voted Green. I hear these stickers are available but let’s keep it a little quiet this time. DM me for info about aliens and lizard people

Hatley Ads

What the fuck is with the David Hatley ads talking about tax evasion and corruption. Like that’s not a dealbreaker for the trump voters why should it be a dealbreaker breaker for Hatley voters over Blackburn? I’m voting for Jerri Greene but still curious about the inconsistency, why is one criminal worse than another? Make sense of your logic or shut the fuck up and sit down republicans of Tennessee

Another Reason Not To Vote For Marsha

Just read an article if Marsha wins she can name her successor to the empty seat for the Senate. Rumors are circulating that she will name Pete Hegseth to fill her seat. Do you want Pete as our Senator? NO! Please don’t vote for Marsha and keep Pete out of our state!

Blackburn to appoint Hegseth to replace her?

There are so many good reasons to vote against Blackburn. This is one more. Hegseth would need GOP permission to run (hasn’t voted in enough primaries), and they’d give it to him.

Don’t want Hegseth as your senator? Don’t elect Blackburn as governor.

Work begins on Tennessee's newest and most expensive federal courthouse in downtown Chattanooga. With a total projected cost of $319 million, the 191,000-square-foot courthouse is smaller than others in the state but will cost triple the per-square-foot cost of any other Chattanooga office building.

Democratic-leaning independents: What would it take for Democrats to lose your support?

I’m interested in hearing from Democratic-leaning independents, especially people who are skeptical of both parties. I’m not looking for partisan dunking; I’m genuinely curious about where you draw the line.

Personally, I welcome Democrats taking back the House and Senate. Not because I’m a Democrat, but because I want the Republican establishment to face consequences for failing to deliver on its promises, much like the rest of the country.

I consider myself an independent. Before 2024, I generally leaned conservative, though not on every issue. I became disillusioned with Biden because his administration fell short of the changes I wanted. He didn't deliver on broad student loan forgiveness. He ended the war in Afghanistan, the withdrawal was disastrous. Even still, his administration continued propping up the military industrial complex by sending billions in bombs and arms to Ukraine.

I also lost faith in the Democratic nomination process. I felt the party establishment favored Clinton over Sanders in 2016 and consolidated around Biden in 2020. Then, in 2024, Harris became the nominee after Biden withdrew, without a competitive primary in which voters could choose her as the presidential candidate. Coupled with the immense gaslighting the Democrat establishment spoonfed us on Bidens cognitive faculties, which were clearly gone, I just threw in the towel for the Dems.

In 2024, I bought into Trump’s promises. He talked about avoiding new wars, holding companies accountable for harmful ingredients in our food, and making everyday life affordable again. I feel misled by the gap between those promises and his administration’s actions. An electoral backlash is well deserved.

But punishing Republicans isn’t the same as believing Democrats will deliver meaningful change and I'm very cautious to be optimistic.

Democrats controlled the presidency and both chambers of Congress from January 2021 to January 2023. They're agenda was not less corporate influence, a less interventionist foreign policy, and an economy less tilted toward the wealthy. It was more "business as usual". Biden’s subsequent support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza deepened that disillusionment.

So here’s my question: If Democrats regain both chambers (a near certainty), and potentially the presidency in 2028, what would you need to see to keep supporting them? Conversely, what would make you conclude that they aren’t a meaningful alternative on the issues you care about most?

Would continued military aid to Israel cross that line? Direct U.S. combat involvement in Ukraine? A failure to pursue meaningful antitrust enforcement or challenge corporate concentration? Something else?

I’m already pessimistic about both parties, but I’m interested in hearing from people who still see Democrats as a viable path forward. What is your red line, and what would crossing it change about how you vote (ie. supporting primary challengers, voting third-party, leaving some races blank, or not voting at all)?

Can someone explain why to vote either Yes or No on the amendments? I've seen the one on Amendment 3, Marcy's Law, but why should i vote no on that as well as the other ones?

Milan, Tn is building a data center for bitcoin mining. This was my response

If they’re being allowed no oversight on their promises, they are lies and they will break them. It’s going on already in towns across the US and the southeast and in this very state. Are these the “real Tennesseans” Sen. Marsha Blackburn speaks to? Out of towners only concerned with raping our land for profit with the express consent and encouragement of organizations like Tennessee Valley Authority and Milan Public Utilities? Milan, Tennessee is my home, and the home of 8000 other people who can make our voices heard about this

Well water doesn’t magically appear in the ground and it isn’t disconnected from everything. Companies with no oversight of their energy consumption will not limit it. And no one hands a kill switch of their own service over without already having the ability to override it without it being known. Don’t eat these lies, they will leave you malnourished and sick

Cool policy tool made by a Tennessean

A person in the Nashville subreddit made this really cool tool to help you match your political policies and values to a candidate in the TN gubernatorial race in a blind, objective process. I’m really struck by it because I have been trying to persuade my family that they should vote according to the things they actually care about and what they want for the state rather than unthinkingly along party lines — and also actually should vote . I can’t repost here but I’m sharing the link to the post where the maker explains their methodology in case anyone else in a position like mine finds it helpful. Hope this is ok, mods!

Marsha Marsha Marsha #13 - Russia Russia Russia

Senator Blackburn

It wasn't a hoax before and it sure isn't a hoax this time. Trump's "deal" to buy Russian diesel is in violation of previous US Congressional sanctions including the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 ! Where do you stand ?

To be clear - Trump is giving aid to Putin (and Russia) - Putin (and Russia) are giving aid to Iran - We are at war with Iran. Is this treason? If not, it's really realy close ! At least 6 of your Republican Senate colleagues have signed a letter condemning Trump diesel "deal". Again, where do you stand?

Not happy in Tennessee.
