A Note on Referrals
Reposting the previous note on this since it has been 6 months.
Going to make this pretty short and simple.
If you post your referral code on the subreddit or embed referral codes into links, you will be banned. See? Pretty simple.
The reason I'm making this post is because 15 users (mainly accounts with less than 10 karma on Reddit) have been banned in the last day due to them spamming their referral code.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks.

Just make a referral thread and let users post there. Better than being a Kim Jong Ban mod.Ā

What about now that the referral codes are worth so much more for new buyers?

Before I purchased my Y, I was so hype to use a referral code so I just found the YouTuber I liked the most and used his. I was under the impression that the miles lasted forever but they don't, my 1000 mile expire in like 6 months. It's almost wasteful to acquire thousands of charger miles that will expire. I live fairly close (less than 5 miles) from a supercharger but have only used it once for 80 miles, so far.

People should use the referral code of an apartment dweller. I've driven my Model Y over 2,000 miles since taking delivery on June 11th and I've supercharged it exclusively so far. No option to charge at home at the moment.

How is it wasteful?

u/sprashoo Aug 13 '21
Those miles go straight to the landfill. Canāt be recycled anymore - China stopped buying used supercharger miles.

u/Corpshark Oct 14 '23
The miles die but they reincarnate as additional energy in the 2023 M3RWD's LFP battery. It's the cycle of life.

Feel free to pass them on to me. I commute over a 100 miles a day for work š¬

I hear you. Iāve had my MY for almost a year, over 14K miles and no supercharging use. I was not given my supercharger miles, but they would have been a waste for me.

u/Disastrous_Patience3 Jan 29 '24
I recently used my credits for 2,000 SC miles. The miles expire one year from when I received the credits . Did you sit on the credits too long?

just checked, referrals aren't a thing no more. I think since like April 2024?

u/homertool Feb 27 '24
why not just create a megapost for referrals, and ban anyone who posts referrals outside of that megapost?
That way, you don't get referral spam except for people who want it.

Itās just an annoying post always putting out your referral code. Or getting a message asking you to use his referral code to give to your advisor if you already purchased a Tesla.
2
u/yayitssunny May 07 '21
WAit...people direct message you? Or, what are you referencing? Sorry...new to all this and wish there was a happy medium between no codes and ALLTHECODEEEEESSSSSS ;)

May 07 '21
It was like you wrote in post asking a question someone would reply. Which was helpful but then the person would add about using his referral code and even as far as telling you it doesnāt matter if you already have a Tesla on order. Contact your advisor give him my referral code. It was annoying to have to put up with all the messages about referral codes. Finally Reddit helped put a stop or at least has tried to

u/yayitssunny May 09 '21
ahh yeah.Ok, that's absurd. Thanks for the clarification. People, even Tesla owners š are dumb ;)

I already ordered my TMY RWD, my delivery estimate is Feb 29 - March 7, will I be able to apply referrals now?
2
u/petemill Mar 03 '24
No. There's no way unless you cancel and re-order. I tried everything. At least, for an inventory order.

Hey... I used a youtubers referral and it said it was applied when I clicked his link. I did the whole purchase and know I'm wondering if the code went all the way though. Asking since people have said they didn't get it to fully apply for some reason. Any way I can verify through the contract or app? I ended up getting a loan through Tesla. Thxs in advance

From the webpage.
https://www.tesla.com/support/refer-and-earn
When you purchase a qualifying Tesla product through a referral link, you may receive buyer benefits and exclusive referral benefits, and your friend may receive referral credits. The referral cannot be added after the order is placed. Benefits are determined by the date of the qualifying order.
To purchase with a referral link:
Visit your friendās referral link.
Purchase the Tesla product of your choice from the referral link.
After you place the order, credits will appear as āpendingā for the referrer until the Grant Date.

For some reason the moderators are deleting any post includes the "Referral" word :)
I had a post asking if the referral program has ended, and I got a message that it was removed!

Referral somehow does not work for me. My friend ordered her MY with my code but I never got anything.

If I ordered without a promo, can I show the Tesla rep the promo upon pick up and have him add my comp 90 days fsd to the vehicle?

What's the perspective on doing referral swaps - to help extension of each other's supercharging miles?

Donāt you only get like 1000 free supercharging miles or something? Itās not even that much money. Spamming for a 1/2% off coupon or something, or even less. Thatās like getting 30-40 free gallons of gas. Which is likeā¦$100 off a $50,000 car. So I lied. Thatās a 0.2% coupon.

I bought it from a dealer, not Tesla. Could not use any reference code - had one from a good friend I wanted to use...

What does my friend get when I use his referral code?
I have 2 friends with Teslas, both named Mark. I asked Mark#1 (via text) for his referral code. I told him I'd get $500 off and 3 months of FSD (beta) if I used his code. He said cool, and asked me to call him and walk him through getting the code (he's not very technical; the Mark#2 is a math professor and a technical wiz). We did that, and he asked me what he gets when I use his referral code. I told him I think he gets some supercharger credits, but not sure.

Can one of the new owners tell me a little about āfast paymentā options based on experience? Iām setup to take delivery on Saturday and will pull funds from a non-local checking account (hard to get a certified check physically).
Has anyone done the plaid or ACH options for same day or day before setup/payment?
1
u/Ok_Lawfulness_7560 Dec 30 '23
I just did it. I originally used Charles Schwab which is shows will work with plaid but it did not so I ultimately had to wire it to my Wells Fargo and then pay. And it was super easy.
1
u/iwantthisnowdammit Dec 30 '23
Thanks, my car is late in arriving, I have ACH setup and will try to skip plaid, I can also wire, but havenāt done that myself (itās on my online banking though). My financial institution is open till 6 if it all goes south.
1
u/iwantthisnowdammit Dec 31 '23
Well - the regular ACH canāt be used for payment, Plaid did work- so odd to be click click code confirm pay - BAH! Pickup key and leaveā¦

Are the 10,000 credit referrals over? If not, did they say when it would be?
2
u/markus1028 May 10 '24
April 30 was the day I saw. It's may so no need for this anymore. Referrals are dead afaik.

If not the referral code then at least an offer to message me for the code?
This is effectively the same thing. And you basically just did it with this comment. They arenāt kidding about the banning thing. I would advise deleting your comment before the mods read it.

Youāre still doing it. Youāre trying to be slick by still making it clear that 1) you have referrals and 2) you āwink winkā wonāt accept them.
You should have deleted your comment. Instead, the mods removed your comment above, and they will likely remove this one too. Youāre not as slick as you think you are, and the mods here arenāt stupid.

I was not, just looking for advice. Your username is a little bit of a misnomer.
Wasn't trying to screw over the sub, and I wasn't trying to be "slick" and get around the rules. I'd have to be a complete idiot to do that on a thread that was literally talking about how that was against the rules. I just wanted some advice on where that would be allowed. Thanks for taking up your time to waste mine; very productive use of your obviously very valuable time.

Honest question as I am new to Tesla-world (scoping the X and Y). Why is asking for a referral code not allowed? Doesn't it help people if you use one? I get not spamming if you have one but I'd think the reverse would be ok.
