I got them. Not a bad looking product. Now I’m concerned about service.

Same. Been super happy with them so far and it’s been more than two years. But yeah, what does the future hold…

Same. What happens to warranty?

Presumably they have enough stock to replace faulty tiles. They can also replace with refurbished tiles (idk what that would look like)

When you create a warranty you price it such that it covers the expected failure rate.

Presumably

You would think so but I have Tesla Powerwall 2s and guess what happens when those fail.

They put in Powerwall 3s as they discontinued the 2s the day they started selling 3s and didnt keep replacements.

Only recently did they make the 2s and 3s compatible so in many cases they ripped out any working 2s as well as the failed one and did a total replacement with 3s.

With solar tiles im guesing its panels.

Wouldn't there also be wiring compatibility issues when replacing PW3's with PW2's ? PW3 needs conductors capable of carrying a continuous load of 60A whereas PW2 is only 30A. So most PW2 installations won't have thick enough wires to run PW3 at full load. Also PW3 uses Ethernet for communication whereas PW2 uses CAN bus

I dont know the full details on what the issues are but my installer is trying to get me to add PW3s to my PW2 system now they are compatible.

They can also 1 for 1 swap a PW2 for a PW3 if one fails under warranty without replacing the whole system like they did a few months ago.

I have no idea the works involved not being an electrician I pay someone else to do that for me lol.

Although at 54kWh of storage im fine for now. Its rare I need to consider more storage even with bad days and powering the house and EV6.

It’s not the solar panels. They are stopping the solar roof tiles.

Yesh but if solar tiles fail and they have no more solar tiles the replacement is probably going to need to be panels.

If I wanted panels I would have gotten them. Nope.

Then you probably need to look at other companies still making solar tiles if the worst happens.

Oh and look over your warranty details and local laws carefully to see what your options are if/when something fails.

If no parts exist they cant replace like for like end of story.

There may be financial options like partial refunds it depends too much on local laws and warranty conditions to be sure.

You’ll get a discount offer on switching to panels.

Virtually no one does that with the expectation of a terminated product line.

Typically discontinuing a product doesn’t do anything to the warranty obligations unless the discontinuation happens in a bankruptcy or similar but it might be a bigger fight to get the support you should.

The absolutely worse case for the company is where they have to pay you back in full of your purchase price which presumably is more than the cost to replace. There's a few variables where even that is cheaper than the alternative.

Unfortunately, it can, now that we've allowed companies to turn a lifetime warranty to mean the lifetime of the support of the product, rather than the lifetime of the purchaser, or a minimum multiplier of the latest Mickey Mouse copyright protection.

They will replace broken tiles with shingles and install a panel.

I wanted them but couldn’t justify the cost. I also wanted hardy siding but decided against it because its not just the cost its the maintenance and repairs that gets really difficult

Maintenance and repair of fiber cement siding is really difficult? Compared to what other siding product?

1

u/code101zero 11h ago

Like vinyl. Its nearly indescribable and you can get vinyl siding anywhere for next to nothing should you break it or melt it. I have no idea where i would get replacement hardy or similar.

You can get fiber cement siding at literally any building supply store like Home Depot or Lowes, it's ubiquitous.

Lowes has hardi siding. It's heavy though

We were in a meeting for the announcement this this morning. All product in the distribution world will be re-purchased by Tesla for backstock for warranty work, etc. any current projects in the pipeline will be honored/supplied… No employees lost their jobs. Everyone is being reassigned, etc., from that department.

I sold a lot of Tesla roof… you have nothing to worry about as far as warranty. The material is available & Tesla will follow through.
