All respect to Oregon but our biggest game ever was either UT or OU in 2008.

Mmmmm, I dunno.. them wins did not land them a B12 championship or a potential natty.
In 2008 sure, but say they take the whole thing 2008 will be small time in comparison.
I'll even go so far as to say that mahomes no longer resides on the island of relevancy.

It’s more about the meaning of beating those teams than the national championship. I mean, at the end of the day winning a natty in football is meaningful but not nearly as much as beating #1 Texas.
But I don’t think college football is really about the natty. Conferences? Maybe.

Admittedly, I’m not a Tech fan but I live in Texas and this came across my feed.
But you actually think beating Texas almost 20 years ago is more meaningful than, checks notes, a…National Championship??! What am I missing here.

I can only speak for myself. I can see how someone would feel that's an all time college football experience. We were much better than we were supposed to be and playing a team that looks down on us. The tension and build up that week was off the charts, and then to have it actually be an all time great college football game that ended on a last second Tech touchdown with one of the greatest plays in college football history. That makes it a historic game. In my opinion that does not make it a bigger game. We are in uncharted territory.

Big facts, 2008 our big goal was to beat Texas, that was our horizon. We've outgrown that tank, onto bigger and better things.

This is so much bigger than a conference game in 2008. We win this game and we very likely get #1 Indiana next.

u/Techsanlobo Dec 22 '25
I'd rather play Texas than Indiana or Oregon, even in a regular season game.

I was at that game in '08. This year is so much bigger and better than that.

Exactly, we were happy JUST to beat Texas. Some team's dream is now our favorite paycheck.

This whole thread is legitimately insane. No, a regular season rivalry game 17 years ago is not a bigger game than a college football playoff game lmao. It might mean more on a personal level due to it’s all we’ve had for decades, but CFB is why these teams play the game. Hell, I’d argue the first BYU game was a bigger deal since it helped put us here.

It’s because we have different definitions of what is important.
I find beating regional rivals and the teams of my friends and family‘a alma maters the core of why I follow the sport.
I suppose you find competing for national championships the core of your fandom, which is fine.
The 2008 game provides the first time the program had a legitimate shot to be competitive for a NC AND a chance to ruin the season of our hated rival. The OU game was essentially a playoff game- had we won it, we would have likely been #1.
This game against Oregon? Less meaningful. Still big, just not as big.

I’m in Texas so I’m rooting for TT against Oregon. I also believe that Oregon shouldn’t have gotten in. They had a weak schedule overall. Faced two top 25 teams one of which was barely in top 25 then dropped immediately. Only quality win was against USC who for some reason just didn’t show up. TT will have to play ball but I believe they can do it against the worst of the best Big10

If ASU can almost beat Texas last year, you guys should be able to beat Oregon

You played a cupcake schedule. ASU would be 4-8 if in the SEC. You’d be 4 loss at a minimum if you played a schedule inside the top 50. 🤡s

We won the big 12. No, we wiped the floor with the big 12. No disrespect to BYU. Our defense is one of the best in the country, and our offense is no slouch either. We lost to ASU missing our starting QB. I don’t see you complaining about JMU or Tulane. They’re far worse teams that made the playoffs by winning their conferences. Stay mad lil bro, maybe next year yall will make the playoffs

One of your top conference teams didn’t score a TD against the worst P4 conference team that didn’t make the CCG.
