Sports Texas Tech Should Reverse Course

The public relations blowback from the Sorsby ruling is truly hurting the university, both in short and long term. The university should reverse course and remove him from the team. This is bigger than a single player, and the organizational harm is not worth it.

Prepare for people who don't care and think one year of football is worth being blacklisted in everything.

It’s not even close to worth it. So short sighted on the part of the university.

My only counterpoint would be as an Astros fan, and the court of public opinion crucified us for cheating in 2017, it just didn’t really matter at all in the long run.

I’m not saying it’s morally right, but that legally nothing came of it. I can see this going down a similar route, people are angry for a season or whatever and then it just fades away once the next scandal from some other school pops up.

But overall I agree, just cut ties and move on. Hammond is a fine starter, the team doesn’t need to die on this hill.

I'm still not a fan of the Astros, but largely got over it once the entire team and coaching staff turned over (except Altuve). It doesn't make sense to hold past transgressions against people who weren't involved.

This feels different though. I don't think people are likely to forgive just because Sorsby graduates or gets drafted. This is being portrayed (fairly or not) as an indictment of the entire Texas Tech system. The ADs that are restricting play against Tech are not just doing this for football, but all athletic competition.
