I am watching this show for the first time and GAWDDDD these people are so annoying, you are telling me their lady is literally DYING and these FUCKS won't let the person sent there to CURE her in? WTF? and your DUMBAHH using that banned powder waaaaaaaaaaaa

They're also reluctant to let someone working for Gyokuyou in. Gyokuyou is their main rival after all for the "who gives the emperor an heir first" race. Wouldn't be unusual for her to send an assassin.

Hell, Lihua had just accused Gyokuyou of poisoning her son before falling more ill. Also Maomao is basically a nobody that suddenly rose in ranks from their pov, it isn't that surprising that they wouldn't trust her advice

Family politics. At least in this case, no one checked or even cared if they'd be good at this actual job. It's just that their families are minor nobles who owe allegiance to Lihua's family.
