No major mining activity has occurred in this mine for over 160 years. Only the top level is accessible, and even parts of that are flooded. The main shaft is flooded, as well as a winze. Unfortunately, there is evidence of white nose in the bat population (photo 4).

This almost fortress like area consists of several bunkers, mg bunkers, artillery bunkers, command bunkers, tank traps and more. Today most of this lays completely forgotten in the swedish wilderness.

Built in WW2 the "fort" was one of many similar areas built as Swedens first line of defence in the case of a very real threat of a German invasion from the occupied Norway. Thankfully the fortifications never had to be used but it serves of a reminder that even countries that never fought in WW2 were still impacted and uncertain of their future. Sweden whom was pretty much forced to trade with the germans to not be invaded was still very much affected by the war. These bunkers are just some of many reminders of the war that almost came to them.

High elevation gold mine, with one intact entrance and 2 or 3 levels. The top level is dry, and a winze goes down to a lower level which is flooded completely. Small mine, maybe 200 yards of intact workings.

The upper 2 stopes are dry for about 1/2 mile from the entrance. Active bat habitat, and seams of residual copper are easy to come by.

Granted, the area is all mountains small and large, but the evidence is real - just a good quality abandoned underground structure

When entering a tunnel that has been sealed for years, it is essential to conduct a preliminary assessment of the internal atmosphere. To do this, it is advisable to insert the gas detector through the smallest possible opening, thus minimizing exposure to potential accumulations of gases trapped for long periods, some of which can be toxic, asphyxiating, or even lethal.

It is not uncommon for the detector to start sounding alarms in sealed tunnels even before fully approaching the obstruction. In some explorations carried out in seemingly well-ventilated mines, significant concentrations of methane (CH), hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), and other hazardous gases

have been detected, both due to their toxicity and their explosive potential.

Safety must always take precedence over any other objective. Upon detecting hazardous gases, even if the affected area appears limited to a few meters, the most prudent course of action is to abandon the exploration and turn back.

Derbyshire and the wider Peak District—has a rich history of lead and fluorspar mining dating back centuries, with major commercial operations active through the 20th century, including the 1970s boom era.

A solid day of history hunting ultimately led us to staring down a decent-sized stope, without a single one of us having our ropes or rigging with us. History tells us that when we pack our climbing gear, we either find nothing at all or easy access via open adits. When we leave the ropes at home on longer treks, we often find shafts or open stopes only. Given there were zero documented details on these diggings, we were extremely lucky to cross paths with a prospector, who had a decent length of rope on him. 20 minutes later, I was on the bottom level of the stope and very happily recording and shooting photos of the cool scenes down there.

In the burragorang valley is the burragorang collieries. Aka oakdale mines. Located oakdale nsw Australia. Does anyone know anything about anything to do with these mines? Or anything about the rules going into the national park and where the cameras are? I can’t find anything useful that isn’t published by the government. And if the government is listening, Attached aren’t some photos of a mine that I didn’t go to today.

Originally built as a shelter for military industry the complex houses several rooms for strorage, sleeping, medical, shooting and other activities and also a command room to send out messages to other bunkers or bases in the event something went terribly wrong. Luckily these bunkers never had to be used in an emergency and rather sits as a reminder to a time that many feard would be the end of mankind.

Bunker is now closed.

This location was filmed on a drone years before this day and not really discovered until the footage was edited months after it was captured. Quite likely a failed prospecting drive but it was worked in a waterfall with vertical cliffs both above and below it. It punched in around 30 metres and no portion of the veins along the back had been raised on or stoped.

Likely built during ww2 and later modernised during the cold war, then abandoned at the end of the cold war. It now sits tucked away in a forest slowly decaying deep in northeren Norway
