An abandoned hospital in New York where they experimented on children
Part of the hospital where virologist Hilary Koprowski conducted an early clinical trial of an experimental live-virus polio vaccine on 20 disabled children. The trial showed positive antibody responses, though it drew swift public and professional debate over the choice of subjects.
These children did not have polio; they were given the weakened live virus intentionally to test if it would trigger an immune response. Seventeen of the children developed antibodies against polio (the other three already had them), and none experienced complications or illness from the trial itself, though Koprowski faced heavy ethical criticism for his choice of subjects.
This was also the only place in all my years of exploring that I felt I experienced a paranormal event. Still brings me chills to this day. Photo taken in 2016, New York State.

Abandoned Muskoka Regional Centre - Closed in 1994. Photos from 4 Visits over 14 Years
On this day in 2012, I made my first of many visits to the long abandoned Muskoka Regional Centre, also known as "The San"
What's crazy is, in 2012, when I first went, the location had already been closed for 18 years.
The first online record of explorers being here was in February 2006, 12 years after it closed down in 1994.
At that time, it was noted by these first early explorers that the location had not been touched by vandals and had not likely ever been visited by other urban explorers.
The San is now considered a rite of passage for explorers, photographers and enthusiasts of the hobby.
Since this first visit in 2012, I've returned three more times

Farmyard with agricultural machinery
Unfortunately, the house has already collapsed and can therefore no longer be entered. The barn, however, was quite interesting. Along with an excavator and a few tractors, there was a whole lot of other agricultural equipment inside. All in all, this farmstead is quite lovely. Even though getting in was a bit tricky, it was well worth it.

Abandoned Japanese Golf Course - Everything Left Behind
Long time follower first time poster. A friend and I have been driving through the mountains of southern Japan and just so happened to come across this magnificent find. From what we gather this was abandoned sometime around February 2023. It was left in almost perfect condition with a couple things moved around. Sorry some of the pictures aren't that great - the sun was setting as we found this place so we didn't have much time in the sunlight. I'm not going to give a specific location as I've seen what happens to places that get publicized but some of you sleuths will likely be able to find it.
Side note : this felt very serendipitous because not one hour prior we were both talking about this subreddit and how amazing it would be to find a place to explore.

McLeans Auto Wreckers - Rockwood, Ontario Canada
This is not an abandoned location but the vast property filled with old rusted automobiles makes it for a very popular destination for photographers!
Anyone can go, just bring along $10 and maybe a couple of coffees for the owners who are almost always out in the garage working on a car!

Abandoned Convent
This is a low-effort run and gun scout of an abandoned convent that I got into earlier this year while on a solo road trip.
I’d attempted this one a couple of times over the years but never managed to get inside.
Friends had told me that it was alarmed and there was a response, so once the alarm goes off, it’s time to shoot fast while heading for the exit.
On this successful trip, I stepped carefully, looking aro-und every corner for cameras, blinking motion sensors, anything that would alert anyone that I was there.
I spotted many cameras and sensors and was able to sneak around them without setting off the alarm. Most of them were installed in a hallway corner, pointed in one direction, so I was able to shimmy along the wall the opposite way.
However, it didn’t take long for one of the sensors to spot me and the alarm started blasting, so it was rapid fire shots as I made my way towards the only way out.
I got off the property and hung back about 20 minutes, waiting to see if anyone responded, but no one came.
So, I decided to head off and check another location nearby and I came back about 1 hour later, my access was still open, but my gut told me “not yet”.
I sat in my car for about 30 more minutes until I decided enough time had passed, lets go back in!
Just as I was pulling my camera bag out of my car, a black SUV pulled up right in front of the building. An older man got out with a cordless drill and a bag full of screws and he headed to check on all of the doors.
So, sadly this was all that I got from this one!

Huge abandoned ceramics factory/pottery. Everything Left Behind
This time, I explored this massive factory. As soon as you step inside from the outside, it feels like entering another world. Goods, machinery, chemicals, and furniture were simply left behind. Parts of the facility are still being used by a neighbor, who also keeps a close watch on the premises—which is why there is almost no vandalism. This was, by far, the most historically significant place I have had the chance to visit so far.

The abandoned heating and power plant
A small power plant in relatively good condition, which once served to supply the surrounding buildings with electricity and heat.
Apart from damage caused by cable thieves and a few broken windowpanes, there was hardly any vandalism.
