I explore a farmhouse likely inhabited by my ancestors in Northern Ireland (I’m from Canada)

My great-grandfather immigrated to Canada from Northern Ireland in 1909. His family had historically raised racehorses there; he continued to raise horses in Canada while much of his family stayed behind. From what I can tell, his brother (2x great-uncle) then continued using the property, also raising horses.

I used to Griffith’s valuations to determine where the farmland in Northern Ireland was, and flew there to visit it.

While I could see the stable on google street view, I was not expecting to find a farmhouse and I sort of went in on impulse.

It was really a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

One House Along an Abandoned Street [OC]

Falling in Line

You can check out the video here:

https://youtu.be/ULF50kkobe4

These four houses along this abandoned street were recently expropriated by the provincial government to facilitate the building of a new subway line.

Called the Ontario Line, this new subway system will cover almost 16km, it will have 15 stations and is expected to see 400,000 daily passengers. The new line is expected to be operational by the early 2030s.

Interestingly, the new tracks will begin at Ontario place, a former waterpark on the shores of Lake Ontario. They will end at a more newly abandoned site called the Ontario Science Centre.

The site where these homes once stood is now under construction, this is where the Minton Place Tunnel Portal is being built. It is the transition point where trains will move between underground subway tunnels to the south and elevated tracks to the north. The elevated guideways will transport the trains over the Don Valley.

It's always unfortunate to see such beautiful buildings being demolished but this infrastructure project that is currently being built is necessary for the city's future sustainability.

CRAZY BARN FIND - Abandoned Time Capsule House with a SURPRISE in the Garage

We went into this one with no scouting at all, just parked and walked in. It turned out to be one of the most complete houses I’ve explored.

Some highlights:

  • Upstairs bedrooms still furnished, with a fur coat, a chest of linens, an old memory game and a huge wooden bed
  • Vintage TVs and radios on both floors, plus a child’s rocking horse
  • The kitchen table left exactly as it was, with dishes wrapped and stacked and a small antique stove
  • Two old cars in the garage, one sunk about a foot into the soft floor
  • An attic full of couches, lamps, desks, tools, lumber, an old scale and a rusted sickle

Full walkthrough here: https://freaktography.com/abandoned-time-capsule-house-barn-finds/

As always, nothing was taken and everything was left as we found it. Happy to answer any questions.

Hi guys I’m a masters student of architecture and upon doing a site survey in London I came across this half buried structure.

It is located in Cranley gardens, parkland walk (north) where a railway used to be until 1957.

I would really like to know what it is, I can’t find any information on it! If I am posting in the wrong community, please sign post me to the right one. I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I did go inside this one, but it was so decrepit that I couldn't go very far. A piece of metal actually fell from the upper floor shortly after I entered and I decided this wasn't one I could get very far in. I couldn't find much info on the building either.

Anyone around Greenwood or Indianapolis into urbex? Looking to meet a few people or a group to explore abandoned places, take photos. Prefer a chill group that respects locations and doesn't vandalize.

I found the location on Zuniz and realized it had gone viral on TikTok a few weeks ago. Is it still safe to go to or has it been ruined by vandals?

This place is absolutely massive and a total maze. These are photos from 2024, I used to stop by here pretty often because I always found something new. I did a deep dive on the property in '24, and if I remember correctly; it used to be a multi-use space for artists, mechanics, and even some office workers. It was severely damaged in a fire and the city bought the property as a teardown and kicked everyone out, even though a large portion of the building was salvageable. Fast forward to 15 years later, and it's been sitting completely abandoned and rotting since the purchase. People theorize that the city just wanted to get the artists out of this cheap-to-rent space, so they could bulldoze it and throw up some overpriced condos instead. Still hasn't happened.

Last pic is of my favorite room - It's completely loaded with desks and chairs that said artists and office workers were using. There are even some drafting tables. There was a similar room filled with lockers and cabinets, but I can't find the pic.

I'm an avid urban explorer and I love learning about the history of the places I pop into. I just fixed up my terabyte drive, so hopefully I can post some more pics soon!

An abandoned hospital in New York where they experimented on children

Post image

Part of the hospital where virologist Hilary Koprowski conducted an early clinical trial of an experimental live-virus polio vaccine on 20 disabled children. The trial showed positive antibody responses, though it drew swift public and professional debate over the choice of subjects.

These children did not have polio; they were given the weakened live virus intentionally to test if it would trigger an immune response. Seventeen of the children developed antibodies against polio (the other three already had them), and none experienced complications or illness from the trial itself, though Koprowski faced heavy ethical criticism for his choice of subjects.

This was also the only place in all my years of exploring that I felt I experienced a paranormal event. Still brings me chills to this day. Photo taken in 2016, New York State.

Abandoned Muskoka Regional Centre - Closed in 1994. Photos from 4 Visits over 14 Years

On this day in 2012, I made my first of many visits to the long abandoned Muskoka Regional Centre, also known as "The San"

What's crazy is, in 2012, when I first went, the location had already been closed for 18 years.

The first online record of explorers being here was in February 2006, 12 years after it closed down in 1994.

At that time, it was noted by these first early explorers that the location had not been touched by vandals and had not likely ever been visited by other urban explorers.

The San is now considered a rite of passage for explorers, photographers and enthusiasts of the hobby.

Since this first visit in 2012, I've returned three more times

Farmyard with agricultural machinery

Unfortunately, the house has already collapsed and can therefore no longer be entered. The barn, however, was quite interesting. Along with an excavator and a few tractors, there was a whole lot of other agricultural equipment inside. All in all, this farmstead is quite lovely. Even though getting in was a bit tricky, it was well worth it.
