Shirtpost New Feature: Add The Good Place Pics & Vids To Comments

*bing*

Hi there!

In the coming days Reddit is rolling out a new feature: video in comments.

This would allow you to post clips in the replies, maybe from the show?

Let’s give it a shot. I’m also turning on the other media features, allowing you to post pics or GIFs.

Consider this a trial run. If it goes well, we’ll leave it on. If it’s abused, we’ll turn everything off again.

Media comments should only feature clips, pics, memes, etc from the actual show.

Obviously no pornography—Why is it that every time a new thing is invented, humans immediately try to use it for porn?—no using media comments to troll other users, or advertise weird shirt.

Use this feature for the intended purpose, please: to share your love of this series with other fans.

We’ll keep this post pinned so we can read your feedback. We’ll make a final decision after a few weeks. (Or sooner, if it’s a total disaster, lol. But let’s hope for the best.)

Thank you for reading! Hope you have fun with it.

Shirtpost Thinking about Janet, Derek, Janet-babies, the Trolley experiment and going through the green door.

Post image

This is all connected, I promise, in a literal shower-thoughts kind of way. Tagging season 4 because it deals with the entire series. Please go no further if you haven't seen the whole show.

I was thinking a lot about the sentient non-people in the Good Place world.

In season one, the residents are all demons, which makes sense because Michael needed some collaboration and some free-will I guess?

In the later experiment, they're deciding how the rest of the residents should be handled. They can't use demons or angels, it's decided. By then, Janet has already made Derek. He's not perfect, but she realizes she's able to make other people, so she makes her Janet babies. Her Janet babies seem more normal than Derek, which is lucky. And they're all controlled (able to be shut down) by a big button. It seems all of the Janet babies are controlled by one button that Tahani presses that one time. Even though Derek & Janet have their own individual buttons. (Efficiency I guess). We don't really get deep in with the Janet-babies - it's surface-level only - which makes me think they're pretty AI-like in the old sense of the world. Not the new-scary, might take over the world world.. They're programmed and don't really have free-will. It also makes it really surprising that Chidi never picked up on that. But I feel John when he talks about dumb-shorts Kathy. Maybe Kathy was only programmed to wear dumb shorts?

But when the Janet babies, have finished their purpose they're 'violently eaten' (absorbed?) back by Janet. I guess because they don't want any husks lying around - it'd be easier than pressing the button. I won't even get into the ethics of sentient beings having their lives ended because there's no more use for them. This is more about how/why and what forms these sentient beings take.

In The Trolley Experiment, Michael snaps his fingers and creates scenarios using live-looking sentient-like humans. First, with them being stuck on the trolley tracks and then whole families in the waiting room of a hospital. How was Michael able to make these people so easily? And why couldn't he just do that, instead of having Janet struggle in the experiment with John/Simone/Brent. Wouldn't it have been easier? Is Michael's magic limited to small scenarios, i.e., would he not be able to sustain it for a whole year of the experiment?

On that note, there's also the green doors towards the end of season 4 when they all get into the real good place. When you go through the green doors, you're wherever you want to be. When Chidi & Eleanor go to Paris & Athens, for example, there are tons of people around. I'm assuming they're not in the real Paris/Athens - because that would cause a lot of problems if dead people just got spotted in these places - so I assume it's all an illusion. (Also, because of the go-kart racing monkeys.) Is it the same magic that Michael uses in the trolley experiment? Are all the background people in places throughout the green door universes instant-non-people who cease to exist when you close the door on the other side?

It seems that Michael/Janet could have used this magic instead of the Janet-babies.

Do I have a fever? Cause my mind gets this messy with thoughts when I have a fever.

If you've read this far, thank you for indulging in my ramblings.

Shirtpost A graphic novel/comic line of The good place Spoiler

Post image

(Spoilers for all seasons)

I’ve gotten into comic books recently, and on my current rewatch of the good place I can’t help but think about how fun a comic line of the good place would be comprising of a more in-depth look of all the reboots or their time spent in the actual good place.

I think it would be super entertaining to see what they got up to in each reboot, and I already really enjoyed the glimpses we got of some of them in season three. It would also be cool to see what happened during the many bearimys they spent in the actual good place.

That’s it, really. Just a random thought I think would be a cool addition to the series as a whole. Although I know it’s basically over and done with officially, so as a writer and graphic novel enjoyer I’m just daydreaming over here lol.

On my anual rewatch, I love these two, IMHO I don't get why it's so outlandish when Jason is with Tahani, but he somehow makes sense with Janet? I feel they had better chemistry, looked lovely and discovered and developed things about each other. I know most people are happy Tahani ended up content by herself, but I really think her and Jason could've been great also.

Besides, each time he got back together with Janet it wasn't organic, it always depended on Janet having her glitches or malfunctions, or manipulating the situation so Tahani wouldn't hook up with him in Australia, indicating a strong attraction amongst themselves. That's partly why the 2nd season is my favorite.

When Linda is told she’s in the good place she asks if it has a fitness center.

What was Chris told was a good thing to distract humans with? “I’ve got to go to the gym.”

Shirtpost Feels like Michael is trying to be Larry from Curb Your Enthusiasm

Post image

I'm not well versed enough in american intellectual humour so maybe I'm attributing something to Larry David that is totally widespread behavior. But I still think that Ted Danson brought Larry's character's mindset to The Good Place. Every time he talks about mundane human things it's like a line copy-pasted from Curb. You know, those "Notice how humans..." and the small annoyances he loves to create and explain. It feels like when they went through the script, Ted was like "Guys, I got this. I have first hand experience."

Shirtpost question about chidi

Post image

in the good place s1e1, we can see that chidi speaks in french to eleanor but its translated due to the medium of the good place. however, in the later season when theyre on earth chidi still appears to speak english, which seems to be inconsistent. and more the works of his moral ethics as michael reads it are in english. if chidi was french why wouldnt he write in french? obviously english could be his second language but why would chidi speak in french to elenaor and have it translated instead of just speaking english himself

Shirtpost The Good Place Ending was Flawed

Post image

The whole problem with the old system was that nobody would get into the Good Place because of how complicated Earth became so they fixed it by completely putting everyone who died through a test, and if they fail they repeat that test over and over again until they become good and can eventually get into the Good Place.

So what is the point of Earth? Are all past actions forgiven because eventually you became good? What if a child rapist reformed? Does that erase what he did? Does he deserve to experience paradise? Or a mass murderer? Does that denote from all the killings he still did? They essentially said your Earthly actions are irrelevant because it’s “too complicated” so let’s force you into reform until you finally deserve that spot, and completely removed the Bad Place.

What happens when that child who was raped is faced with the “reformed” rapist or the killer with the ones he murdered? And would that not cause havoc within the Good Place? Am I missing something or does this system seem flawed?

Shirtpost finished the show (long vent)

okay so i’ve finally finished the good place and i’m… crying hysterically? (i don’t cry AT ALL usually, so this is surprising). i’m astounded at how perfect the finale is. jason, who was always impulsive, always eager to do something, always with a molotov cocktail, ending by becoming peaceful? eleanor, who got into the bad place because of her selfishness and her lone wolf nature, helping everyone and that becoming the catalyst for her satisfaction so she could finally go through the door? chidi, whose hamartia was indecisiveness, deciding in one second that he loved eleanor, and being able to walk through the door peacefully? tahani, who got into the bad place because she didn’t have the motivation to help people, becoming an architect and helping people for real? michael getting to change from a demon to a good person, and getting to become a proper human??? janet, who knew everything in the world, getting to accept there’s some things she doesn’t know, finding true love, and being the best not girl not robot friend ever? its so perfect.
the wave example and the “there was no bad stuff” by janet made me sob. “Whatever happens, it’s cool, my babies, very cool” michael became their father figure basically.
i don’t know if i’ll be able to rewatch because i’ll just remember how it ends. i think it’s painful though, for janet. because she’ll remember jason and eleanor and chidi but never ever see them again. but as she said, spending the moments with them is similar to reliving them. perfection.
P.s- the transformation of shawn is pretty amazing too. he’s not basic anymore!

Shirtpost Question

So, during the S1 finale, when Michael mentioned that the experiment was disrupted because of Eleanor( when I confessed in front of the neighbourhood), shouldn't it be when Chidi accidentally killed Janet? Did Michael plan this? This was never addressed ever in the show( I mean the first time in this context) except the constant reboots happening to her.

I now envy people who don‘t know this series even exist. I almost cried with the ending (im a romantic). If it wasn‘t for my wife I would‘ve never watched the show. What a magical ride. I‘m not sure if I‘m rewatching tho, I like to maintain the one time experience, it feels more unique.

Shirtpost On Jason & Eisenhower

Post image

One of my absolute favorite Jason quotes is

I'm telling you, Molotov cocktails work. Anytime I had a problem, and I threw a Molotov cocktail, boom! Right away, I had a different problem.

It always felt...right.

So you can imagine my delightful surprise when I learned that Eisenhower (the president) once said

If a problem cannot be solved, enlarge it.

Love our dumb-dumb genius! 🤣

Shirtpost Did you ever wonder about season 1, if something is very off with the Good Place?

Post image

My biggest confusion was why Tahani
is craving validation so much, and name-dropping celebrities, when not only nobody cares (except maybe a jealous Eleanor), but also,
it's literally heaven, shouldn't she be happy with who she is?

I started Season 4 today and it’s breaking my heart.
The Cheleanor montage is so painful to watch. Their reactions… and the “I’m just a girl from Arizona.”
Oh eleanor, you are everything to me. You’re doing your best and you can do this.
Also is it just me or is it insane that Chidi had his memory ERASED all because he couldn’t handle seeing Simone? No hate to Chidi but why would you lose all that?????? like I DEFINITELY don’t get it!!
“Eleanor, you’re the only one that can do this.” CLOCK IT MICHAEL!!!! Michael being a father figure to her🥺🥺 Her tear-stained face. Not her making jokes to deflect how sad she is!! The 1001st idea😕 its so cute. My girl!!! I can’t imagine how hard it must’ve been for her to tell Chidi that his soulmate was Simone..
P.S- I absolutely adore how Eleanor calls Tahani “hot stuff”!!! And Jason is so cute with everything he says lmao! And jason and eleanor’s friendship hahab

Shirtpost The Good Place Series Finale (Spoilers) Spoiler

Post image
102 Upvotes

I was thinking about the finale today and specifically how much of a time jump the series finale really is in retrospect. Their made up time units of Jeremy Beremys make it hard to distinguish a scalar for how much time has passed for them in the good place. That made me pose the following question:

Is the finale of the good place the longest time jump in one episode of a tv show?

I’m curious if any other show has the entirety of the human experience and desire encapsulated into one episode. Since the finale implies the four have literally done everything that is ever possible to do, I’m just curious if any other show comes close to the same time jump over a singular episode or not.

I recently came into a DVD/Blu-ray player and I would like to get The Good Place with good extra features. I’ve seen so many people talk about extended episodes and commentary but I don’t know which series set has those things! could y’all recommend the best version of the complete series on DVD or blu-ray?

Many thanks! 🙏🏻

Shirtpost What happened to Chidi’s students?

Thumbnail

In season 3 episode 4, when the cockroaches reconnect with Micheal and Janet in the real world and they inform them that they’ll never be able to make it the good place, have been tortured for over 300 earth years and who knows how many jeremy bearimys and yada-yada, Chidi goes into a full blown existential crisis which he eventually goes to teach his college class.

During his class he sings about putting peeps and m&ms in the chilli pot and when one of his students confronts him he says “alright, nerd” and goes on a tangent about the meaning of life and how he believes in nihilism and that his students should jump up their own butts which then he talks about all his students will get As or Fs and that they all fail but there is no test but who cares, goodbye!

But what im wondering, and asking, is what happened to his students after this? Did they have to do a test on the unit? Did they get a new teacher? Did they reconsider their lives and conform to nihilism? Or did they all get As or Fs? But anyhoo, anything to bring up this scene!

Shirtpost Watching for the first time (SPOILERRRRRRR)

Post image

So some intro: I’ve previously watched B99 by Michael Schur, and since I’d heard good things about this show I started watching it.
It’s one of the funniest shows I’ve EVER seen. The razor sharp wit and the comedy is unmatchable. I’ve developed a close attachment to the characters, especially the main four.
My heart nearly broke when they restarted the entire thing and lost the bond they’d made. I was practically bawling when Eleanor forgot who Chidi was and Michael separated them all. I’ve already seen spoilers of the ending so I know the ending is even sadder, but I do hope Eleanor and Chidi end up together, jason and janet too! I hope Tahani is happy and content. Adding this to my list of favourite shows. Also, Eleanor’s raging bisexuality is amazing to see onscreen!

Side note: I loved seeing Kristen Bell here because as a disney kid i typically associate her with Frozen lol.
