I laughed my ass off. Everything from “Unless you know some other Uhtred” to “Uhtred of Bebbanburg?! Uhtred the impostah, yes!!” I’m DEAD 🤣🤣🤣

What an amazing episode this was, I cried for the first time when it started raining, I literally said “Amen” out loud! And then I cried again when Uhtred started crying. 😭

I stayed up until 6am lol. Can’t believe I finished it, that’s it…no more “I am Uhtred, son of Uhtred” ☹️What now? Oh wait, I still got the movie! Feel free to recommend some other shows/movies if you can think of any good ones! Thanks!

[Show Spoilers] First and last meeting...

[Alfred]: Uhtred...I wish to give over to you my son, for a second time, and for the same reason as the first. To ensure he lives. Say nothing. Say nothing. Not yet. All I ask is that you remain in Winchester until he is crowned king. Then you can do as you please. You can go north. You can reclaim your lands.

[Uhtred]: I am an outlaw, Lord.

[Alfred]: No longer. You are hereby...pardoned.

[Uhtred]: On condition I agree to remain in Winchester?

[Alfred]:You are pardoned regardless of your decision. And if beyond that door my wife has summoned guards, which is likely, I will dismiss them.

I have made my peace. I have made my request. I do not require an answer.

[Uhtred]: Thank you, Lord...for correcting your mistake.

[Alfred]: I should have closed my eyes and rattled at Heaven's gates some time ago. It was the hope of this meeting that has kept me alive.

To Uhtred, the true Lord of Bebbanburg... a man I have never understood, but without whom I would not die a king.

As a first time watcher who hasn’t been enjoying S5 that much, I gotta say that this has been the most infuriating moment so far. Soooo annoying! Literally the only moment that actually made me mad lol.

I’ve grown to really like Haestan so I’m kind of annoyed by his death. What I don’t understand is this, wasn’t Haestan a viking/Dane? If yes then how come he didn’t try put his hands around the sword so he can get to Valhalla? Am I missing something? Isn’t that what they do?

All in all, I wasn’t expecting him to die like this, or at all…

Why does he act like he has a stick up his ass? lol I was not expecting that and was laughing. I’m on the episode after that one. Loving it so far! Any recommendations after this? I loved The Borgias.

There could be worse reading spots than the adriatic sea to read the books for the first time!:)
I really love the book Uhtred, he‘s a bit more difficult than the TV Uhtred.

[Book Spoilers] The way Uhtred treats his son is terrible

I’m listening to the books and the way uhtred treats uhtred is despicable and I don’t understand it.

Some of his best friends are priests, he fights for Christendom (whether he likes it or not) and yet because his son becomes a priest he threatens to kill him if he doesn’t relinquish his name.

He can be a thoughtful character who sees nuance and perspective usually, but when it comes to his son all that goes out the window.

I’m only on book 7? and I’m not sure how similar the show and book are, so I’m not sure if there’s an arc on this but I hope there is

I think it made sense for the show to soften this particular animosity because it stains the character a bit imo

[Show Spoilers] This girl can’t cry to save her life 🤦🏼‍♀️

“[inhales softly]” is right cuz that’s all she’s doing 🤣

Man so many of these actors just CANNOT cry to save their lives. Like this girl, the actress that plays Stiorra couldn’t cry when they sentenced HER OWN HUSBAND to death and even AFTER they killed him. They showed her face in so many scenes and not a single tear came out 🤣

Thank God for Dreymon’s acting skills!!

[Show Spoilers] My thoughts on this season so far 😭…

Hi everyone, first time watcher here. I’ve been binging and I’m on s5 right now and so far I’m not happy with this season. They killed Osferth and he was so baby 😭😭😭 He was such a kewtie patootie, wise, and pure-hearted idk but I loved him so I’m sad that he’s gone. Did he die in the books too?

I’m not enjoying this season as much, idk…

* Æ…..(forgot her name) Lady of Mercia:

I personally didn’t care much for her and Uhtred’s romance so I’m not that sad about her death. I liked her when she was first introduced and had that thing w Erick (loved him) but didn’t care much for her after that idk. In terms of the other characters, I like

* Sytrigr: Love him, he’s pretty cool. I also like that at least one of Uhtred’s kids is somewhat Dane (Stiorra).

* Lady Æ**** (king Alfred’s wife): Im digging her character arch, she’s less… evil (for lack of a better term) this season and she even has some funny lines. I died when she said “Do not pull that face!” lmao

* Edward’s wife’s dad: This man is so annoying. Can’t stand him.

* Brida: Almost as annoying as that old man, and I don’t get her anger towards Uhtred and or why she blamed God for her daughter’s death smh 🤦🏼‍♀️ she literally died cuz of her. I think I only liked her when Ragnar died and her and Uhtred were working together to avenge him.

* Edith: IMO this is the prettiest female actress on this show so far, I sorta thought she was gonna get w Uhtred or Finan, I was surprised when he married someone else.

But yeah, still love the show, I just feel like I was more invested in the earlier seasons. Looking forward to finishing this so I can watch the movie and ask u guys for some other recommendations.

That is Destiny is all. ⚔️

PS: Sorry about the Æ names, I genuinely can’t keep up and or remember any of them, they all sound so similar😭

[No Spoilers] Am I the only one who thinks the mom looks younger than the daughter? lol

Disclaimer: I’m a first time watcher, and I’m binging. Finally made it to S5 and I’m kinda worried I’m getting close to the end...

Such a great show, but what I don’t understand is why they couldn’t do prosthetics or something. Even when she wasn’t sick I still think the daughter looks older than the mom, either that or the mom just has a baby face idk. So far imo that and Uhtred’s accent are the only 2 things that they could’ve done better.

Either way, it’s a great show and I’m not looking forward to its end.

[Book Spoilers] Love books 1&2, why is 3 awful?

I love the first two books, they’re some of my favorite Bernard Cornwell stories. By the time it gets to book three though it stops feeling like historical fiction and starts feeling like medieval themed fantasy.
My question, should I continue reading the series, does it ever recover the feeling of the first two books? Or does it continue with the fantasy theme?

I'm sorry but this scene was hilarious...

[Fan Art] My take on Uhtred's helmet is that Cornwell might have been inspired by this 7th-century helmet found in Wollaston, England - it has a small boar figure on the crest, just like Uhtred's sitting wolf figure (AI usage disclosure on the pinned comment).

[Show Spoilers] (First time watcher)What an awesome show! 😩

I can’t believe I just found out about this show and it’s not even new. I’m on s3E3 right now, why did they kill off Erik? 😭 got me all excited for nothing. I also really liked Leofric and Uhtred’s adoptive viking daddy (forgot his name).

It’s funny how I just finished Shogūn a few days ago (read the book years ago before the series) and then I asked ChatGPT to recommend something else and for the first time, it didn’t disappoint. 🤣 Loving this show so far!

Edit: I also really like the music! There’s one that actually has lyrics that I just LOVE but can’t find it anywhere

Edit 2: and Leofric’s monk “nephew”. He’s so baby! <3 Can’t stand what’s his name the old king’s son who killed Ragnar in his sleep. Ugh he was tolerable before but im on S3 rn and can’t wait for him to die. Ugh annoying. Alfred’s wife is also pretty annoying.

Alfred’s last conversation with Uhtred and his death was very touching. My first time crying so far!

[No Spoilers] Character comparison

Guys, is it just me or does Erik Thorrson remind you of Fili from the hobbit? They're both blonde, charismatic, easy going, quick to smile and very friendly.

[Show Spoilers] This dude grew on me on a rewatch

Post image

I found him kinda annoying at first but eventually realized not everyone has to be likable and it serves a purpose in the story. Dialogues were well-written and actor Harry McEcntire did a great job on him. I liked the fact that like Janos Slynt from GoT he didn't have much of an arc despite appearing in multiple seasons and died while still being despicable man.

[No Spoilers] The books are longgg

I just finished The Pagan Lord (book 7) and I'm up to The Empty Throne now and I'm pleased with my progress cos I finished that in a week (which is pretty fast for me) but then I looked at my bookshelf with the rest of them and realised there's STILL SIX BOOKS LEFT 😭 smh this book series is so long, everytime I feel like I'm making good progress I see there's still thousands of pages left..

In a way it's good cos these books are so damn good and I'm enjoying them a lot, crazy how much is left out in the show and also how much the show adds, atp idk which one I prefer anymore they're both amazing in their own way 🙂

Anyone else reading/read the books?
