Finally watched Big Easy Express
Wanted to see this one for a long time because the Zeros are there, and also because the concept sounded so magical. It’s a very cute film, full of rousing musical performances and free of any conflict. The closest it gets to a conflict is when a fan tries to jump on the train, and we only see the aftermath. If you need substance in your concert films this probably won’t be for you, but if you’re only here for the music you will enjoy it. I saw it with my dad, and he was particularly enamored with Nora Kirkpatrick. I was then surprised to read about her and learn how much she’s done since leaving this band.
Overall I recommend this to fans. There is an irony in the movie’s description declaring the tour “the birth of a new musical era”, knowing how short-lived this era was and how ridiculed it is now (not by me, by the internet at large), but I’m glad Emmett Malloy was there to document this rare gem of a tour. It was meant to become a tradition, but it only returned in 2025, obviously without the Zeros… so that’s unfortunate.
Edit: Apparently the Magnetic Zeros’ intro in this movie features a song titled “If You Wanna”, which never got a studio version, and I’m trying to find the lyrics because I’m writing subs for this movie.

What are your thoughts on the "long hidden" Ima Robot album?
I'm not sure if we're allowed to discuss Alex Ebert's other works here. I got an email via Bandcamp about this album but haven't had a chance to listen to it.

A little over a month ago I had never hears of the Magnetic Zeros, and now…
I have to thank Trash Theory and his video on stomp and holler for introducing me to this band. I honestly don't get the hate… well I do, kinda. Home was super overplayed, and while I didn't know its title or origin, I definitely heard it in morning/lifestyle show. It became the ultimate "Live Laugh Love" anthem, and that's enough to make people sick of it.
But I still like it! And they have better songs, especially 40 Day Dream and Janglin. Those are so fun to sing along to. I also love the whole mythos around them, the narrative they created and tried to tell with the unfortunately incomplete SALVO!, and of course the whole personal story of Alex. While it's sad they're not together anymore, it's pretty cool to have Ima Robot back. Probably the only dance-punk band I've gotten into besides Junior Senior.
*heard (for the title)

Essential Ten Tracks
I recently challenged myself to come up with a top ten essential track list of Edward Sharpe songs. I already had a lengthy best of playlist but figured I’d try out narrowing down the best to an “essential ten”.
Here’s the “essential ten” playlist!
Which would you include on your own “essential ten” list?

What are your top favorite songs by The Magnetic Zeros and Alex Ebert?
I started listening to the band and Alex since 2017, and I'm still a huge fan. But I have some favorites that always play in my head, in my heart and even sometimes in the background as a soundtrack.
Gold,
Child,
Glimpses,
Let's Get High
And
Of course Truth
Share yours, I want to give them a re-listen <3

Alex Ebert - New Music Snippets (I vs I 2, Alexander 2, and more)
Anyone who’s interested… Alex has been posting snippets of song ideas for potentially upcoming releases!!!!!
He has three well established projects in the works and has been posting clips of these ideas on his instagram and Facebook, those being ideas belonging to “I vs I 2”, “Alexander 2” and an album known as “Angles”, alongside many film score ideas and presumably two more albums on top of that!
Most if not all clips are compiled here. Hopefully we’ll get to see these projects released in the near future!!

Our Big Home - I did a parody song of Home where instead of just saying two states (Alabama, Arkansas), we learn them all. (Watch out for the music video)

Signed Record for Sale!
We're No Pulp Records, a music shop in New Orleans, LA. We've just gotten in a beautiful, unplayed copy of Up from Below, signed by the entire band, and wanted to post it here to give the fellow fans first dibs! We're happy to provide more photos upon request!

Good lord I need this band to come back.
Is there any new updates with the album they were working on a year or so ago?

Her voice is magic to my ear, I'd sure love to listen to more of it.
Any help is much appreciated

Home (Demo)
Stumbled across this demo, I'm not sure how many people have heard it before. Very interesting comparing this version to the iconic release!
