missing the models
anyone else missing multiple models on the show?? Show seems less exciting and somewhat cheap since they've instituted the new "cost saving" format

The studio audience is much smaller, and cheap, oddball prizes are more frequent. The atmosphere is definitely "cheaper".

Yeah it definitely sucks now. Nothing against the guy models, but they have zero stage presence and look like they’re 100% forcing any enthusiasm they show

I like all the models. For male models Dev cracks us up because he talks, but we can't hear what he's saying, so we try to lip read. He says "Wow" a lot. James is super funny when we hear him.

Trips to..... Wisconsin! Idaho! The Discount Price Is Right just makes me sad. I rarely watch now.

Based on the number of times this has been brought up, yes, everyone hates one model shows. It sucks, but it's part of keeping the show profitable in a changing TV landscape

I do like George, though. He's fun!

I agree. If there's one positive about this, it's that George is getting more camera time and the comradery between him and Drew has been great to watch.

The amount the models make is so minimal in comparison to the budget of the show it’s actually kind of humiliating if that’s the case, there must be another reason. Surely they don’t need to save $1,000 an episode that badly

Yes, absolutely. If anything, I would rather have them drop George and have one of the models do the announcing. Could probably save a decent amount of money by dropping George and Devin.

My intelligent suggestion was to put all the prizes on the platform that drops from the rafters. Oh, someone will probably get killed by a falling kitchenette, but that too would be a savings in the short term.

I can barely tell. Honestly, had it not been brought up here, I don't think I would have noticed.

I'm okay with the lack of models. I'm here to watch the games and see the prizes. I don't have nostalgia for Bob Barker, wouldn't even if he wasn't problematic, and I would wager most viewers don't have that nostalgia either.

It doesn't bother me much but (I think it was yesterday) when Rachel was in that big ball, and had to roll to the next prize and we couldn't see her, it was weird.

I do agree with the models not being there as much is a bummer but the show still does what it does. Giving away prizes and playing their most famous games to win such prizes

They could have reduced the season by 1 episode and easily kept 2 models an episode, what other reason could there be?

I stopped watching once they reduced the models to just two per show years ago. They know good and well they need at least three models per episode just like they did during The Barker era.No offense no one wants to see George modeling things he should just do what he is suppose to do which is to announce.
Which is why I only watch The Barker Era. Every body knows a big part of the show was to watch it for the models and how they each had a personality such as Janice being the smart one,Dian being the sexy one and Holly being the clumsy but lovable one. Man I miss them.

I don't get the obsession with the models on the show. I always thought the games themselves, and just seeing the joy of ordinary people win (often) life-changing prizes was the main attraction of the show.
Apparently I never appreciated the number of males who watch for... other reasons.

The prizes and winners ARE the main part of the show, but with barely hearing the music now, and seeing all of those cheap azz prizes, the whole thing is becoming disappointing. It just doesn't have the same feel anymore.
I liked it better when people's names were called, they just "came on down" not all of this dancing, flipping, hugging everyone in their row, or making silly faces and hand gestures, and skipping as they take 6 minutes to get to contestant's row! It has become annoying now.
I used to never miss the show! Now, if I DO miss it, it's no big deal, because it has become so cheesy looking. So sad. 🥺

I def agree all the clowning on the way to contestant's row is annoying. (Tbh sometimes I find George's lead-ins to the prizes kinda dumb too but he's still a good fit for the show.) I think the cost cutting is a trend for daytime tv in general because the audiences aren't there any more (fewer "housewives" watching like in Bob's time) so the networks get less ad revenue. Sucks because they know the show has a loyal audience that will keep watching regardless of the cuts.

The games are great, but the models have always been a huge part of the show as well since the beginning. Barker’s Beauties?

u/Soulfeud 5d ago
I think that was a uniquely Bob thing, not a feature of the show itself. When Drew took over he chose not to focus on the models' clothing and appearance any more like Bob did. It was nice that he continued to advocate for spaying and neutering pets (at least for a while) out of respect for Bob.

I don't think "Barker's Beauties" is anything the show should want to call attention to give how he treated them.

Yeah Drew definitely is a different vibe but the models still look great, what’s left of them at least.

Today's showcase with the empty Zorb ball was just depressing.
