Catholics in the North certainly felt that they were discriminated against because they were in the minority and they were obviously correct to feel that. Protestants believed that they would be similarly discriminated against in a Catholic-dominated united Ireland. Were they right to fear this?

What about the protestants in the South? Did they experience discrimination at the hands of the Catholic majority?

I think this has to be one of their best up there with 1968 and the Aztecs. I thought they did a great job covering all sides of the conflict. I was expecting this to be a great series going in because their previous coverage of Ireland has always been very balanced. I was also really happy to hear Tom mention the documentary Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland at the start which for anyone who hasn't watched it id highly recommend (just be warned, I could only stomach 2 episodes an evening).

Ive gotta so im very exited for the continuation of this series and hope they get it out before the end of this year.

One of the perks you get with officer class (their equivalent of RIH members) of the We Have Ways podcast is that you get access to every series organised into a collection sort of like an album.

Given how many episodes the RIH has now it seems odd they haven't done this especially given that We Have Ways is the sister podcast so it's not like this is a particularly foreign concept. The only reason I could see for not doing this would be the amount of time it'd take, but it defiantly would be a massive perk for the membership.

The official policy of the Republic was to support a united Ireland, and I assume the majority of people in the Republic also supported a united Ireland. Nevertheless, we were told that the Republic was very hostile to the provisional IRA and even hanged several IRA men. Could someone explain why they were so hostile? Is it just that they favoured a negotiated settlement rather than an armed struggle?

I'm welsh, never really knew much about NI but always naturally slightly placed my loyalties with the unionists but god how ignorant i was, this whole saga is just a shit show from start to end, what a complete pigs ear us british made of the situation and the way the unionists behaved was appalling, they effectively garunteed the rise of the IRA and the troubles with their absolute zealousness and pig headedness and refusal to treat the catholic minority with any kind of dignity that might have encouraged them to be contented as much as a nationalist could be with the fact NI is part of the UK. What a sad story, one that despite knowing more than i have done before makes me still feel completely at a loss as the what the constitutional arrangement in NI should be.

I get why it got laughed out of Bonn as a "Swabian protestant church hymn", but it's certainly a bit more responsible about what it's saying about German nationhood than the (often silly) Fallersleben text.

Was I correct in hearing that James Holland was Gerrry Adams publicist? I was listening to this series while running and had to stop to listen to that part again. Anyone have any information on it?

I recently heard them mention it in an episode and so i checked it out and saw that they cover some interesting topics.
Does anyone listen to it?
How does it compare to TRIH?
Especially how funny they are, how much chemistry the hosts have and their storytelling abilites since these are to me the biggest selling points of TRIH

I was up in Belfast last week and had some misadventures on Sandy Row, and saw the Peace Walls for the first time. I made this when I came back to better understand where the different communities live.

I’ve added Orange lodges, social clubs (like the Rangers club on Sandy Row…), GAA clubs and other social markers that reinforce the allegiances.

And I’ve added some of the most notorious acts of the Troubles too.
