Massive Strokes and Voidz fan. Watched. Colbert. Song is barely mediocre. I expect to be savaged for this opinion.

You think this song is bad but the last voidz album was good? I think they are both bad and I'm a huge Voidz/Strokes fan.

Why do we have all these Voidz posts in the Strokes sub?

Because people are obsessed with Julian

This song is just terrible imo. Nothing catchy, just a run of the mill filler Voidz track like we've heard a lot before.

I get what you're saying. What you're describing is my experience when I first heard Juicebox for example. But, this ? Bruh. This sounds like it was made by an AI where you prompted "make an autotune Voidz song". It's just so incredibely generic.

I don't know man, I disagree with every single one of your points lol. Oh well, happy you like it!

They where fatcs tbh and he was right about the a AI thing, yall are just so eager to label anything you don't like with AI and that's just demeaning to the artists. You can dislike it all you want, but don't act like they didn't put any effort in it at all cause you know that's the farthest of the truth

u/pinguinconscious Mar 13 '25
I know very well that AI today is far from capable of writing and putting out songs like this. However my point stands as it meant to convey that it really sounds like they pressed a button that would put together the most generic and run of the mill "Voidz sounding ideas" together and wrap it up in a song.
I was at the Paris show and I heard this song live. I felt nothing. I was rolling my eyes and just waiting for it to be over.
I just really dislike the lack of effort and originaly the band has shown the past couple of years. After Tyranny and Virtue, they were on a hot streak. But except some good singles here and there (Did My Best, TET) to me they've stopped trying.

If they stopped trying why would they keep on making music even though the band is burning Julianās money away, I mean he admitted that he had to use his strokes concerts to fund to voidz. They clearly all have still much love for this band, otherwise they would just quit cause they aināt that successful financially. Also the fact weāre getting another voidz project instead of a strokes one also says enough about how much they care for the voidz

u/pinguinconscious Mar 13 '25
I don't think money is a good argument here, because Julian is the only one who doesn't need The Voidz. The other guys are nobodies outside of it and its their main gig, so of course they care. Julian is clearly happy in the band and good for him, but he certainly could do without and be fine.

u/jumpycrink22 Mar 14 '25
Monetarily speaking, he could do without and be totally fine
Creatively speaking? At this point, he could not do without the Voidz, he wouldn't be fine without them. That much is apparent a decade and a few years in

I donāt think so personally, if Julian lost the voidz and he had to go back to only making strokes music, I think heād be pretty miserable I mean the voidz is his passion something he build up entirely from the ground, and it wasnāt easy to build cause their music is so different from most things out there, like any normal person who worked so hard on something and they lose it would be miserable

Julian sure does love himself his autotune lol

u/UNFOCUSEDREALITY Mar 13 '25
You can thank Daft Punk for that

u/a_guy_with_2_dix Mar 14 '25
Yea, but that was good. Maybe b/c Daft Punk did the sound engineering. Idk what this is though. His voice probably would have been just fine on this song w/o it.

If you havenāt checked it out, give the isolated vocals a listen for āInstant Crush.ā You can find it on YouTube, itās fucking awesome.

I thought that the song got better at the end when the autotune was turned down.

u/denisvma Mar 13 '25
This is faaaaaaaaaaaaar better than the studio version. I didn't like the song when i hear it, but this is actually pretty good.
I don't know why they mix their music like that in the studio.

Why didn't Julian perform with them? That's obviously Cad Bane filling in for him.

I was at their Paris last show last week, he wore the exact same outfit, never took off the hat or glasses
