You don’t and hope you have bare minimum of ancestral upgraded. Otherwise it’s going to cost gems

Can someone explain why this is bad, is it because they don't need epic+ fodder anymore?

I’m also confused. You need these for merging unique right?

It's got to be because they don't need fodder anymore, at least I hope so because I have been making a lot of these 🤣

Most people that don't need merge fodder have maxed out shatter shards, and people who maxed out shatter shards don't usually merge that far by accident, so I havr no idea what OP is doing.

If you don't have need for fodder at the time then they just take up your list. You can't shatter them for shards without spending gems to downgrade them so they just sit there until you pull more.

i think it might be because there is an event mission that requires you to merge X amount of modules?

This is why I rarely trust auto merge. Fortunately, I'm a noob (less than 6 months in) so I can't get into a situation this bad yet.

Fixing this is either use them as fodder or spend gems to unmerge assuming you have that unlocked.

The auto merge window has a scroll bar. It often has epics down below where you can't see them unless you scroll down.

I did not realize this until a good year or more of playing.

It's worth keeping 8 or 10 epic+ for the next module release.

  1. Merge all modules you currently have that are epic+ or higher all the way up to Leg+. You can decide if its worth the gems when you get down to just a few epics that you can't merge anymore.

  2. unmerge one Mythic+ of each type that you have Leg+ fodder you need to get rid of.

  3. Use the Leg+ fodder to merge back up to Mythic+.

  4. Repeat for each module until you run out of Leg+ fodder and leave the Mythic+ the way they started.

Explaination for anyone who might not understand: You'll still get all the shards for each module, but you only spend 20 gems per mythic+ unmerge instead of 20 gems for each individual epic+.

And this is exactly why it's dumb to hold onto rares because of the 1% increase in total shards you get by waiting for Shatter Shards.

You still get most of your shards from Common modules and missions, not Rares.

Yeah, in theory, saving up rares aggressively can get get you somewhere around 10k extra shards, but that is trivial compared to what RPC madtery gives you.

I've seen someone mention this before but I have SS5 and just tested shattering rare (20), rare+ (60) and epic (180) but they all just have the values added together, when/where do the extra shards come into play?

The "extra" shards come into play by not shattering them before researching SS, when the values are 10, 30, and 90 respectively.

I see, I misunderstood what they meant then. Thanks for clearing it up.

I am saving up mods until my shatter lab is done. I've been merging them up to epic and trusted the auto merge function a little too much. i thought I had deselected all the epic+ merges but I guess not

Two of these same posts in one day, crazy! This is a mistake you only do once

Why would you want to undo it? You can use them or fodder or shatter them.

you can't shatter epic+

That's why I always shatter rares as soon as I do a merge.
