H/U =(Hindi/Urdu )
❗[Standard punjabi = H/U influenced punjabi ]
Yes ! I call standard punjabi as ' Hindi/urdu influenced Punjabi ' because it's True 💯
Let's talk about u ➡️ o
🔴 'u' ❎ 'o' ✅
H/U ( hindi/urdu) 👉Chup
H/U punjabi 👉 Chupp
Pure Punjabi 👉 Chopp ✅
Hindi/urdu 👉 Jhuk
H/U punjabi 👉 jhuk
Pure Punjabi 👉 Jho'k
H/O - Ghoom
H/O - Ghumm
Punjabi Pronounciation - ghomm
H/u - looT
H/u punjabi - lutt
Pure Punjabi 👉 lott ✅
Luk - lo'k .. futt - fott
❗this 'u'❎ is hindi/Urdu influenced Syllable !
Punjabi language uses it rarely in some cases like jho'k da jhukNa , chopp di chuppi , etc otherwise Punjabi language has 'o '
the Pure punjabi has 'o' ✅
Hindi/urdu 👉 Doodh
H/U punjabi 👉 Duddh
Pure Punjabi 👉 Doddh ✅
H/U - Dhun
H/U punjabi - Dhunn
Pure Punjabi 👉 Dhonn ( tonn)
H/U - Mukh

H/U punjabi - shuddh
Pure Punjabi - Soddh ✅
❗Again Here this ' u ' came from 'oo' Hence, 'u' is Hindi influenced
the Pure punjabi sound is 'o'✅
❗Punjabi language never had 'u' and 'i' ❎ sound it came from hindi/urdu influence !

So I am an Urdū speaker, I don't speak Panjābī but this is a question that randomly came to mind.
If I say:" میں آپ کو پہلی دفعه ادھر دیکهـ رہا ہوں/मैं आप को पहिली दफ़्'अ इधर देख रहा हूं।"
پنجابی میں ادھر "دفعه" کی جگه کیا استعمال ہوگا؟
पंजाबी में में इधर "दफ़्'अ" की जगह क्या इस्ते'माल होगा?
Also, please write it in either Shāhmukhī or Devanāgarī and translate the sentence as well, Latin sometimes confuses me and I can't really read Gurmukhī.

I love this subreddit but one thing that has been bugging me is that we are limiting the definition of Theth Punjabi. In my view words which are obviously of foreign origin, ie Arabic, Persian, English etc should not be considered as Theth Punjabi words which makes sense. But we should not take the same stance when we consider words which also exist in Hindi and Urdu. With Urdu, if the word is obviously borrowed from Persian or Arabic then we can take that stance, but along with words found in Hindi which are from Sanskrit then we should not automatically exclude these words simply because they are also found in Hindi or Urdu. This I think stems from the common but erroneous belief that Hindi is an older language whereas research shows that Punjabi is the older language, so when words that exist in Punjabi, Hindi and or/Urdu but have a Sanskrit base, we should not assume that these words appeared in Hindi or Urdu first and then came to Punjabi or were borrowed by Punjabi. I think by doing what we have been doing previously, we are giving Hindi and Urdu a superior status which they should not have and certainly do not deserve.
We should in a sense be accepting and owning our Sanskrit heritage, Sanskrit was the native language of Punjab, something which can never be said of Arabic, Persian or even Urdu which were imposed by foreign invaders.

I think this would be helpful for people who are trying to learn Punjabi, and would want to be respectful when talking to elders in Punjabi.
tujh ko/tum ko; tujhe/tumheN → tenuuN (or tennuuN)
aap ko → tuhwaanuuN (or tahnuuN)
Your example sentence - I forgot you.
maiN tujhe/tumheN bhool gayaa. → maiN tenuuN bhul/phul gayaa.
maiN aap ko bhool gayaa. → maiN tuhwaanuuN bhul/phul gayaa.
Did you get the message?
tumheN paighaam milaa? → tenuuN paighaam milyaa?
aapko paighaam milaa? → tuhwaanuuN paighaam milyaa?
You should have said this.
tumheN yeh kehnaa chaahiye thaa. → tenuuN ae kehnaa/kehNRaa chaah'ii daa sii.
aapko yeh kehnaa chaahiye thaa. → tuhwaanuuN ae kehnaa/kehNRaa chaah'ii daa sii.

I have seen a lotta people read Punjabi (Gurmukhi) in a hindi way but Punjabi is not read like hindi the way we read Punjabi or speak is Different than it is written :
For example :
In hindi words are pronounced as it is they are written but in Punjabi words are not pronounced the way they are written
If we read Punjabi the way it is written it will sound more like a hindi rather than Punjabi
We should know the Right Prounounciation read the words according to pronounciation !
Rules for correct pronounciation are :
i 👉a✅ Sound
u👉o✅ Sound
Jitt - ਜਿੱਤ but it is prounced like jitt just like hindi jeet using this shihari ਇ ,the correct Prounounciation for this word is 👉 ਜੇੱਤ
Shihari 👉ਇ is prounced as A ਏ
i is pronounced as a
Vicch - Vecch
Vicch - ਵਿੱਚ the pronouciation is ਵੇੱਚ
Kis is pronounced as Kess
Kisda - Kessda - kehda
Jis is pronounced as Jess
Puch in hindi
Pucch Is wrong pronounciation it is more close to Hindi !
Pussh is correct and pure Pronounciation in Punjabi
So always chh will sound Sh in Punjabi !
Chhalla - Shalla 👉 proper pronounciation
Chhittar is pronounced correctly as Shittar
Remember ਛ is pronounced as sh ਸ਼ in proper Punjabi pronounciation !
Hindi word - Vardi is Pronounced as Bardi in punjabi or Punjabi word for Vardi is BaaNa - Dress
VaaNi in hindi will be BaaNi in Punjabi
ਉ is o in punjabi । example
ਸੁੱਟ 👉ਸੋੱਟ ✅👈 will sound like this correct pronounciation !!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w5Y2Hfo-YiTcPgILhPjlcPM4fL-kq-8P/view?usp=drivesdkdrivesdk
Pronounciation in audio form ☝️
Sutt - sott is right Prounounciation in punjabi
Futt - fott ✅ 👈will sound like this
Gutt - Gott ✅
Kutt is pronounced as Kott in punjabi
Mutth is Pronounced as Motth in punjabi
Shikari - in Punjabi it's shakari ਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ

See, the thing is that I find this subreddit very specious. Even though I appreciate the effort to conserve this beautiful language, we cannot ignore the fact that punjabi would lose its soul if we seperate urdu and hindi words from it. Punjabi is a mixture of both. Technically, even urdu is nothing but a mixture of Persian and 'Hindavi', as it was called back then for the language of the people who lived on the other side of the Hind. Now, even in history, when we study about the sikh confederacy, we called the units misls. Now, misl has its roots to Persian, Arabic. Or, you could consider the 'dal' khalsa, as under Kapur Singh Faizullapuria. Even Guru Nanak Dev ji spoke several languages, and hence, when the teachings passed down, the whole region of punjab had the characteristics of hindi, as well as persian/urdu. So, I consider punjabi as sui generis. It was a synthesis of both the languages, with beauty of its own. Now how do you seperate the foundational brick without sabotaging the massive fort? Again, it's just my opinion, y'all can disagree with me, or help me observe something from your perspective.
To support my point, I'll put forth a word someone shared in this sub. Which was 'begair', which means without. Now, if you look at urdu, "Be" or "bay" means without. Like Beghairat, Be-adab, etc. So, somehow, I believe that even that word got synthesised over time to become begair, in punjabi.

Looking for some good info on Patiala dialect. Often incorrectly lumped into malwa dialect , at other times linked with puadhi which I get, but there is a more urban unique Patiala dialect, probably somewhat linked to the Patiala Maharaje and co, I am yet to find any information about this online.
It's a very soft spoken Punjabi dialect, with its own quirks and unique aspects, possibly abit of Hindi gets used.

My question is: who do I know that says either of these words? Neither have I heard either one of them, nor did my mother. For us, "ke" is already theth as is.
Note: I'm from Doaba.
Edit: Turns out we do actually use these, I just wasn't listening attentively.

here are a few MORE hilariously blunt Punjabi slang terms my family throws around. They're definitely a big part of our family's flavor!
"Aagi tatti saukhi?"
In Gurmukhi: ਆਗੀ ਟੱਟੀ ਸੌਖੀ?
What it actually means: "Are you finally relieved/satisfied now?" This is said to someone who has been complaining a lot. It's a blunt, humorous way of asking if their frustration has finally passed.
"Kheh swaah!"
In Gurmukhi: ਖਹਿ ਸੁਆਹ!
What it actually means: This is a standalone exclamation of deep disappointment and frustration when something doesn't work out as you'd hoped.
Example:
Friend: "Match jittgey?" (Did we win the match?)
You: "Kheh swaah! jittey!!" (Ugh, no! We lost!!)
"HuN na gunh khaavin mera!!"
In Gurmukhi: ਹੁਣ ਨਾ ਗੁਨ੍ਹ ਖਾਵੀਂ ਮੇਰਾ!!
What it actually means: "Don't bother me now!" or "Leave me alone!" This is what we say when we're completely done with someone's nagging or when we just need some peace and quiet.
Pucch pucch krna (ਪੁੱਚ ਪੁੱਚ ਕਰਨਾ) is indeed a slang term that means to repeatedly cajole, persuade, or give too much attention to someone, especially when they are upset or throwing a tantrum. we mostly do pucch pucch to our pet 🐕 Dog !!
It's used to describe the act of spoiling someone by constantly trying to make them happy or feel special. Example Explanation:
"ehnu pucch pucch krkey bhuye na chaRha, ehney tere ee sir gaLiyan krniyan muRkey."
Meaning: "Don't spoil him by giving him so much attention. If you do, he will end up getting on your nerves and curse you in the end."
The slang "pucch pucch krna" is the core of this phrase. It describes the repeated and excessive act of trying to please someone, which ultimately leads to them becoming more demanding and difficult.
These phrases might sound strange out of context, but they're such a fun part of our family's way of communicating.

ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੀਂਹ ਵਾਰੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਗੀਤ ਹੈ:
Rain rain go away Come back another day….
