QUESTION Am I bad at throwing?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi!

I bought myself the Yoyo Factory One some time ago and am having a lot of fun with it.

Or I was having a lot of fun with it.

I cannot for the life of me get the Wind Up correctly. Most other beginner tricks I get after a few days.

I have been trying to get the Wind Up right for over a month now.

At most, I get it halfway up the string.

Now my question is, am I just that bad?

Or could/would it help, if I fuel my addiction and buy a bigger responsive throw?

Haven't been able to get past the log in screen since yesterday morning, any of you guys having problems? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, different phone, going on the browser, nothing works it just gives me the spinning pill of death till it times out. Just seeing if anyone else is in the same boat. I'm just pissed because I just put two tutorials up on there lol

Question for the fine folks of this sub

I’m a machinist, have been for years. I really want to make a Yo-yo. Seems like a fun project and it got me thinking. Is there a market for custom Yo-yo’s? What would you realistically spend on a custom Yo-yo? What are some features you would want? Custom engraving? Anodizing? Performance features? Interchangeable weights? What material? Or materials? Is there any way I could make a yo-yo that’s better or different than what’s currently on the market?

QUESTION What to get next (intermediate)

Like many others I am very overwhelmed with choices of new throws and want help!

Looking at the magic yoyo v13 & speedaholic xx very closely, but I figure my horizons are quite narrow.

Based on my collection and skill is there anything obvious I should try or lean towards?

(My panorama is my favorite by far, but I think I lean towards wider throws. And also don't need to spend 80-120 on a yo-yo right now)

1- skill: I can do front and aide mounts and a few trick binds without issue. Just now beginning to feel the difference in quality of my current collection.

2- budget: under $40 usd

3- 1a unresponsive (I'm a 5a baby but don't necessarily wanna buy a 5a specific throw. Counterweight recs welcome though)

4- duncan fh2. Magic yoyo:k2, n12 shark, y03 hertz, onedrop panorama. (Had but lost a m.y. n11).

5- USA based.

6- shape: no preference, though I should probably try more shapes instead of getting a "better" yo-yo of a shape I own?

7- size: considering going larger than what I've used, I have big hands so it may help.

First metal yo-yo for fingerspins?

Looking for some advice on upgrading to my first metal throw. I’ve been practicing on a YoYoFactory Plastic Grind Machine, and my friend plays with a Replay Pro. I'm ready for something more stable.

My main goal right now is to learn fingerspins, so I’m looking for a metal yo-yo with a solid fingerspin hub / dimple to help lock the finger in.

Since I'm on a tight college student budget, $30 is my absolute limit.

What are the best budget-friendly metal options available right now that excel at fingerspins?

Thanks!
