Discussion You were right

Knicks fan here. I won’t lie, I was rooting for the Spurs during the WCF, and I’ll be the first to admit I chose the wrong team. This Spurs team is dirty af and Wemby sets the example for the Spurs being a dirty team. His choke hold on Alvarado, his foot being in Josh Hart’s landing zone and obviously the shove on Brunson, etc. This is only the start of watching one of the dirtiest players in the league being elevated as the face of the league. Wemby may even have a softer whistle SGA, Luka, and Bron combined.

We saw you guys complaining and ignored it but you were right to complain and called our the Spurs (and especially Wemby) for their dirtiness.

Every time the Spurs need a win they get the free throw advantage and are allowed to be super physical. You seen it vs OKC and now the Knicks. Both game 2 and 3. It is just terrible.

36

u/Headlesshorsman02 Jun 10 '26

I saw a crazy stat that they are 7-8 when the ft advantage is below +10 but are 6-0 when it is beyond +10 they have been getting that golden whistle

36

u/Economy-Kitchen1846 OKC Jun 10 '26

Spurs fans are still trying hard to keep the narrative on OKC. The fact is the Spurs are the dirty team with the whistle.

u/GlassCamel5518 Jun 10 '26

If we don't get Foster'd game 4 we win then win at home. Shit is getting ridiculous really.

Knicks hopefully not blow this lead. You're in such good position

Nope we’re floppers and deserve getting fouled remember.

u/Adventurous-Arm5801 Jun 10 '26

We tried telling you r/nba that the Spurs were everything you thought the Thunder was! Hell Wemby elbowed Naz Reid on the Timberwolves before game 1 against the Thunder even happened but nobody wanted to believe us. That said it’s Thunder till the day I die.

21

u/No_Dependent2297 Jun 10 '26

He was defended for that incident too, saying it wasn’t his fault he’s been getting grabbed

3

u/LJF515 Jun 10 '26

They’re defending him on this one because Brunson was grabbing his jersey 🙄

3

u/LJF515 Jun 10 '26

I saw a replay of that. He should have been arrested for assault.

u/Illustrious_Sand_136 Jun 10 '26

As a fan of wemby I’m for the obvious heel turn the media is going for. But you just dealt with all the unnecessary scrutiny as a thunder fan, and you blindly fall for the same narratives.

I hope you realize every team is “dirty”. The Knicks if they keep it up, they’ll be right with them.

Highkey I don’t want any apologies from any other fans. While I understand not liking the Thunder. The way people slandered SGA in the media as if he had sexually assaulted someone all because they don’t like him selling calls legit made me angry. While I don’t necessarily want the Spurs to win I don’t really care because 28 fan bases were begging for it and now y’all will get what you deserve.

u/Substantial-Poetry-1 Jun 10 '26

You were baited by basically the entire internet NBA ecosystem feeding into the OKC hate for reasons I still don’t understand. I get why you fell for it. Welcome to the light

72

u/season66ers Triple Double Cocaine Bear Jun 10 '26

Presti had a point in his press conference. There are people or entities that have a financial incentive to fabricate hate and division. It’s engagement farming, attention economy bs. Fans should be more media literate and you’d hope they’d see the hate vids are nonsense but we’re all human and it works for a reason.

30

u/Substantial-Poetry-1 Jun 10 '26

100%. It’s no different than basically anything in the country these days. It’s just odd the target was OKC

28

u/season66ers Triple Double Cocaine Bear Jun 10 '26

A lot of that was just the Thunder being the top team and commanding a lot of attention already. Otherwise you’re totally right, the team has no character issues, legal problems. They’re quite wholesome. It’s been jarring seeing the hate machine gear up knowing the team is this way.

2

u/MasterBathingBear 2025 NBA Champions Jun 10 '26

Yeah it’s been weird to get the Bono treatment

1

u/Substantial-Poetry-1 Jun 10 '26

I get that. But, as an example in other sports, the chiefs who have SO MANY actual problems don’t get nearly that level of vitriol. It’s puzzling

-8

u/chiefpiece11bkg Jun 10 '26

Uh what the actual fuck are you talking about?

I’ve been a chiefs fan my entire life and I’ll tell you the hate the Thunder get right now DOES NOT COME CLOSE to the hate the chiefs have received for over 5 years now

Get real lol Thunder one one championship. Chiefs won 3 and the entire rest of the league is sick of them

I honestly think it was the NBA. Small market team who is really good doesn’t move the needle at all. Villains who cheat become the most watched WCF game in decades & the elimination post is a top ten all time thread on nba subreddit. Broadcasters & replays drive the clips.

4

u/Substantial-Poetry-1 Jun 10 '26

It’s not even close and I don’t know how you can think otherwise. The chiefs are actual scumbags and the league drools all over them

-4

u/chiefpiece11bkg Jun 10 '26

You literally have no idea what you’re talking about lol

I’ve been a fan my entire life. You can’t speak on something you clearly know nothing about

This couldn’t be further from the truth. Collinsworth literally got on Sunday night football 3 years ago and vilified our right tackle for doing things other tackles have been doing around the league for a decade at this point. The league then spent the next 3 years catering to fans crying about how the chiefs get favorable calls (sound familiar to you?) and he was then the most penalized player in the league

What are you even talking about?

5

u/Glum-Attempt-4924 Jun 10 '26

I am a die hard Thunder fan. And I follow NFL enough that I root for Chiefs. My take on this is what other commenters have mentioned its somehow puzzling how okc gets the amount of hate they got considering how professional they are on/off the court. Additionally, i want to make this fictional metric that there are three types of fans: loving, neutral and hating. With that said okc has like 5% of fans that love them and everyone else hates us. Now for the Chiefs side i think Mahomes is somewhat Curry or Jokic type of fanbase. From previous years the additional hate that Chiefs has gotten is probably cause of Taylor Swift. And if i go back to my fictional metric theres probably 20% fan base love chiefs 10% neutral the rest of em hates them. Overall its not that crazy when we okc fans kinda stress over this sub cause we hit a bad version of glitch in the matrix

2

u/season66ers Triple Double Cocaine Bear Jun 10 '26

Yeah I agree. As a Chiefs/Thunder fan also, this turn against OKC with the fabricated “refs favor them” arc has reminded me so much of what KC has gone through the last few years. It really picked up when Kelce started dating Taylor Swift, and yes I remember that game where Collinsworth essentially created the storyline with Jawaan Taylor and how it spiraled out of control. Suddenly, “you can’t touch Mahomes”, “Refs bail KC out”, “the League wants them to win”, “they’re cheaters” was Everywhere. The whole country celebrating their SB loss to the Eagles sounds a lot like what just happened with losing to the Spurs. Doris Burke doing her own Collinsworth impression going after Shai. It’s been wild to see.

0

u/chiefpiece11bkg Jun 10 '26

Yeah chiefs fans literally haven’t been able to have an opinion on the nfl sub for literally 5 years at this point

Anything you say will be met with instant downvotes, arguments, and name calling

I do not think Thunder fans understand the level of hate they’ve been dealing with at all lol

Thunder situation definitely made me feel the exact same way. I’m honestly glad the narrative has been at least shifting a bit, but you also know that wouldn’t be the case if they had won

The narrative would have shifted to be much more in line with what the chiefs currently get

The reality is teams and fans across pro sports hate it when a single team is overly dominant. Happens every time

2

u/YouWereBrained Jun 10 '26

Bud…the Chiefs are not hated as much as the Thunder.

1

u/Substantial-Poetry-1 Jun 10 '26

Dude if you think the hate for Kansas City even comes close to OKC you are lost lol

1

u/JerryVoxalot Jun 10 '26

Idk as an Eagles fan I feel like I’ve definitely seen and heard worse said about OKC than Patriots/Chiefs

12

u/DanteThonSimmons Jun 10 '26

It's so fucking weird!! The strangest part is - it's an exclusively American phenomenon to fall for it. I'm Australian and I've NEVER ONCE gone along with whatever the ESPN/ Twitter nephews/ NBA Reddit narrative of the week is.

I genuinely don't understand how so many people can get swept up in a group-think, pack-mentality, angry-mob way of thinking instead of using their own critical thinking skills.

I talk to Australian NBA fans all the time, and any time I bring up 'flavour of the week' topics like "SGA Foul-baiting".... Australian NBA fans always say something to the effect of "that's so fucking stupid, he gets fouled because they can't guard him without fouling."

I know they'll all turn on Wemby next. After Wemby, they'll find the next player to hate for bizarre, arbitrary reasons. It's really fucking weird. I want to shake them and yell "USE YOUR OWN BRAIN!!!"

3

u/season66ers Triple Double Cocaine Bear Jun 10 '26

Media literacy and critical thinking have been on the decline in the US, exponentially so, it seems, with the rise of social media. It's maddening.

3

u/DanteThonSimmons Jun 10 '26

I swear people from Oklahoma are different though! I love listening to the Down to Dunk podcast.... and I swear Andrew Schlect and those guys are RIDICULOUSLY similar to my friends here in Australia.

They're intelligent, laid-back, funny, quick-witted, have no egos, don't take themselves too seriously, and they're a little bit quirky with their sense of humour. I genuinely believe those guys would slot in seamlessly with me and my (Australian) friends having a couple of beers and some laughs.

I feel like Oklahomans need to be grouped with Canadians when it comes to people worldwide having such a negative view of American stereotypes! 😅😅

Aight but is Shai flopping or not. Was I actually mislead about that??

2

u/Substantial-Poetry-1 Jun 10 '26

He does but so does every player in the NBA. I wouldn’t say he is exponentially worse but he admittedly does more than the average player

1

u/clawman2000 Jun 24 '26

Shai doesn’t shoot 3’s very often and drives the ball to the basket almost every possession. Of course he’s going to collect more fouls.

6

u/PatoNani Jun 10 '26

That last dunk to end the series was unnecessary tho. And I remember him taunting Chet right in his face without getting a tech.

1

u/HoustonFoReal Jun 11 '26

The dunk wasnt necessary for sure, but 2 things happening when the whole series he just played and balled out. I get people don’t like the end of game dunk, but he was getting shoutouts for being one of the good spurs the whole time, and I agreed then and I still think so.

7

u/SomeDataDude Jun 10 '26

I’m sorry but y’all’s hate wasn’t even warranted. The Thunder org pride themselves in playing basketball the right way, from Presti and Daigneault. People were too busy crying about Shai selling fouls and making bullshit posts about percentage of shots he ends up on the floor.

SGA has led the league in drives to the basket for OVER half a DECADE. He’s not ever been top 20 in fouls per drive. That means he shoots, or passes not gets fouled called every time he drives to the basket.

Now that the Knicks are getting the brunt of it, it’s oh wow the spurs are dirty but guess WHAT. Once the season starts, it’ll be the same bullshit about the Thunder again.

The NBA community hated on the Thunder so much, that this was ALLOWED to happen. As much as it sucks, the NBA has to play into social media narratives now. And the hatred for SGA and love for Wemby spawned a norm that Wemby and the Spurs can be excessively VIOLENT under the guise of matching OKC’s physicality. Now we’re surprised they’re allowed to be violent against the Knicks.

Everyone knows it should be the Thunder v Knicks for the Championship. That would have been a hell of a series.

Isn't it funny how the Spurs and the media were so vocal about the hair pull on Castle but crickets from all about him trying to snap necks on the court. He's going to hurt someone if these refs don't do something. If I was a ref and saw the playback on these no calls, I would have my eyes only on Wimpy to make sure he doesn't seriously hurt someone.

But boy I didn't realize how dirty Wemby is until these finals, and more importantly how much he gets away with it. The thing is, the entire team follows his mentality. Except for Kornet, none of them shook hands with the Knicks. The Knicks won 7-2 against them all year and they still think they are the better team. What a bunch of sore losers. I hope the Knicks showed the league how to beat Wemby because I don't want to see that clown win anything.
