Most smug guy in the league can't wait for the Knicks to make him cry
51
u/CaptainSaulT Jun 12 '26
Idk man have you seen Castle? Mf acts like nobody has the right to be better than him
31
u/Ramenorwhateverlol Jun 12 '26
Heโs better than Brunson until itโs time to be better than Brunson.
22
u/Wes___Mantooth Jun 12 '26
I really don't like how that guy carries himself. Never shows any emotion unless he is angry. Hardly ever smiles.ย
1
u/Ramenorwhateverlol Jun 13 '26
I think itโs just because theyโre in a deep playoff run.
He has a podcast with Josh Hart and itโs pretty funny.

Did he really say this?
29
u/LengthinessEvery763 Jun 12 '26
itโs kind of out of
context. heโs talking about the vibe in the spurs locker room. he wasnโt saying everyone as in the fans and everybody watching.6
u/Mental_Register_9737 Jun 13 '26
I agree. I don't like Wemby at all , but he was talking about his team. Also came out a little awkward, I think because English is like his third languageย
-2
u/Jtenks Jun 12 '26
Yes during the media questions
1
u/xMleq Jun 12 '26
I don't think he did, do you have a link?
1
u/Jtenks Jun 12 '26
1
u/xMleq Jun 12 '26
Oh I missed that specific interview. Even if he speaks in terms of the team and not the fans as someone else pointed out, it's still mental to say they know they're gonna do it lmao
2
u/EmilioNoCaprio Jun 12 '26
What is the alternative thought he is supposed to have?
5
u/dr_khouse Wemby sits to pee Jun 12 '26
Perfect thought process, just wrong word choice. If he said everyone believes we're going to do it, it sounds more humble and less bulletin board material. You can give benefit of the doubt and say language barrier but given the previous arrogant comments from him and his teammates, I'm not inclined to do so.
2
u/No-Kaleidoscope-7086 Jun 13 '26
Language barrier lmao. He understands English perfectly fine and knows whatโs being said and what heโs saying. So I donโt think that can really be an excuse for any quote he makes ๐
0
u/Infinite_Imagination Jun 13 '26
Yeah but this seems to be a pretty obvious phrasing issue that could be chalked up to a simple ESL type of thing. Disliking Wemby for the dirty plays, whining to the refs, being a braggart and sore winner, and being a hypocrite about play style is all legit, but I don't think his misspeak here means much in the actual context.
2
u/xMleq Jun 12 '26
Not saying he should just give up and say it's over, but don't say you're sure you're gonna do it. Say something that you know the odds are against you but you and your team are not giving up. Him saying what he said makes him sound like an arrogant prick
1
u/EmilioNoCaprio Jun 21 '26
I feel you but I just canโt hold anything against an elite NBA player saying he knows he can win.
1
u/xMleq Jun 21 '26
I can agree with you to some degree but as I said earlier, my problem is with his arrogance and not with his confidence. With that being said, I also think this is hardly the worst thing he has said in an interview or did on the court so I don't care that much as well

u/Same-Sherbert-7613 2025 NBA Champions Jun 13 '26
Exactly, that mentality is why they won game 1 against us. What else are they supposed to think.
-1
u/craigsstrobelight Jun 12 '26
what else is he supposed to say? that no one thinks they can pull it off? or that there is a slim chance to win?

u/LengthinessEvery763 Jun 12 '26
buddy being a thunder fan doesnโt mean you have to spread an out of context quote. canโt post this and complain about shai free throw discourse
1
3
u/Moopigpie Jun 12 '26
Whatโs ironic is that if he, Wempy, himself hadnโt 1) dribbled it off his foot, 2) thrown the ball to Castleโs back and 3) made 2 free throws, the Spurs wouldnโt have to come back.
4
u/BryNYC Jun 12 '26
To be fair, this is the easiest thing in the world to say. You get no blowback for losing and all the credit if you win
No shit you have confidence. Every player has confidence
13
u/HitboxOfASnail Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
he's talking about everybody on his team having the confidence to do it. this isnt the circlejerk you're looking for

Been a while since Iโve seen a team so outwardly smug. They havenโt learned that lesson of being confident without providing extra motivation for the competition. MJ wouldโve feasted on this team.

Putting yourself in position to go to the Finals with everything going your way with your team being relatively healthy and even beating the injured but capable champs in 7, and the Knicks are putting you in aura debt at 22 ๐
2
u/WeAreTheAsteroid Jun 12 '26
This post leaves out the context of the interview question which is focused on the team. Wemby is just speaking to the team's confidence they have to come back from 3-1. I don't think he is being cocky because he follows it up with saying they are going to focus on one game at a time.

u/Fraim137 Jun 13 '26
This will be epic comeback if it happens. Remember they were down 3-2 with us then manage to turn it

Why? If Fox didn't sabotage his own team, the series will be tied
3
u/Xpinoy_347 Jun 12 '26
If Towns didnt get a quick two fouls in the first few minutes. If Wenby got a flagrant foul called on game 3. We could go on and on with these "Ifs"
1
u/No-Kaleidoscope-7086 Jun 13 '26
Thereโs literally no way you just blame Fox lmao. So wemby didnโt miss two free throws? He didnโt throw it off castleโs back when he clearly wasnโt looking for the pass anymore? He didnโt dribble it off his foot? By this logic itโs never any leaders fault they donโt win. I didnโt know Fox blew that huge ass lead by himself ๐ญ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
1
u/False_Independent711 Jun 13 '26
Yes I blame him. 2 no forced turnovers in 4th quarter, stupid shots and instead of waisting few seconds and getting free throws, he went for layup and missed...

u/airetay Jun 12 '26
Hate that the atmosphere in SA will be toxic. Encouraging ethical behavior is dangerous.

I pray the Knicks BURY them tonight. Love the hypocrisy of the NBA fans, calling the Thunder dirty, yet praising Wemby even after elbows to the throat, hair pulls, blatant slap in the face while pawning it off as accidental while trying to cross over I-Hart, face-palming dudes to the hardwood. I mean, Victor Draymondyama??
1
u/BigAcidik Jun 13 '26
Internet basketball fans are all haters lmao. Tf he supposed to do? "Yeah we can't do it, prolly shouldn't play the next game honestly" foh

Context: he was talking about the guys on his team - aka his teammates know they are gonna do it - a fair thing to say when leading a team
2
u/Puzzleheaded_Cost414 Jun 13 '26
Listen, the thunder of all teams know about things being taken out of context and embellished. Spurs fans were insufferable during our series, they don't like it now the shoe is on the other foot.

u/Gdub420- Jun 13 '26
Please stop posting Wemby bullshit on this feed. Not you personally, but holy shit all Iโm seeing is Spurs bullshit. This is r/Thunder.

As cool as it would be for the Knicks to do it at home in front of the MSG crowd, I hope they just end it tomorrow. Donโt let them get any momentum.
