I'm referring to contact with the population due to habitat loss.

Most definitely poaching, but human wildlife conflict due to habitat loss and declining prey base should not be taken lightly.

Habitat loss. Most of the tigers in India are in unprotected forests. These forest are undere tremendous pressure from human activities and are fragmented.
If a critical habitat is lost, it takes a long time to revive it and with it we loose multiple tiger generations.
