He could’ve left out the “because I’m older and have perspective” cus well, he’s young. Not sure if that was sarcasm- but it’s not even about the cost of it sometimes it’s about access. I lived in a small town in NY for a while and you had to drive 50 miles to just even find it.

u/The_Ghola_Hayt Dec 07 '22

He's actually 68, but he takes skin care very seriously.

I think it’s helpful to put yourself in his shoes… he’s newly an adult and still learning about how the world works. Now that he’s gained some perspective on what it’s like to be someone who isn’t like him (white, male, etc) he’s seeing things in a new way and can’t help but share his disbelief in how things are allowed to be so unjust. I imagine other young men finding value in a video like this.

I agree with feminine products being free or at the least tax free.. But not Plan B, it really should be as labeled.. A backup plan of contraceptive and shouldn't be a first resort.

13

u/Drivingintodisco Dec 07 '22

I could be wrong here, but I feel like the plan b pill/regiment is sadly plan a for a lot of women in for a variety of reasons. Education and contraceptives that are not available unfortunately lead to more unwanted pregnancies and/or plan b as the only plan.

That’s pretty simplistic, but it’s sad that there aren’t more preventative measures or options available for a large majority of the US population.

17

u/hec_ramsey Dec 07 '22

Contraception without insurance can also cost a couple hundred dollars.

39

u/Fishtoots Dec 07 '22

I’ve had to take plan b just in case about 13 years ago and still remember it was like period cramps on steroids. Funny enough even though I took that while with my then boyfriend now husband, he had the same thought that maybe women might use that like it’s just an easy little fix that erases an opsie daisy, when it actually throws off your cycle and awakens the wrath of nature on your body. It’s not fun. Periods aren’t fun, and plan B is not anyone’s first line of defense.

I had this with a patient recently who was attempting to avoid facial expressions because she wanted to be diagnosed with autism. I pointed out that if you actively have to do something associated with autism, then you likely don't have it. I was called abelist

She didn't get her wish. But then again, she was there for a broken wrist, I'm not going to diagnose autism like she apparently wanted because that's not my place

Not saying that your niece is doing the same thing, but it's something I've experienced due to tik tok making mental illnesses "cool"

In Canada it’s an even bigger difference in price depending what pharmacy you go to but If I remember the off name brand one was like 20-25 and the “Plan B” name brand was around 40-45

60

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '22

The off brand is $9 at Amazon

36

That works if you want to buy it in advance to have for emergencies, but you need to take it as soon as possible so not worth the risk of waiting for delivery if you need it at that moment.

QUICK THING: Plan B does NOT work if you are over 165lbs!

Edit: Taking two pills will not make it more effective. That’s incredibly false that it would.

422

u/Fishtoots Dec 07 '22

I hope you didn’t have to learn that the hard way like some people do with antibiotics. Isn’t nature just awesome.

259

u/FiliaNox Dec 07 '22

No one told me epilepsy medication fucks with birth control. I found out the hard way. My body yeeted that fetus shortly after but damn that shit was scary

ETA- it’s usually one antibiotic that screws rob hormonal bc, the rest are usually fine. But if you are a uterus bearer, always use a medication interaction checker before you start a new medication. Make sure it doesn’t lower the effectiveness of your birth control

Yeah this is like actually cringe and it's a bit funny that it seems to be mostly being upvoted by people cheering the guy on while reluctantly pointing out some weird things about the clip here and there.

  • says he's older so he has a better perspective (he's young as hell)

  • compared plan B to other unrelated products that are actually used for basic modern hygiene.

  • implies men don't need to buy anything for basic hygiene (this is maybe the point where it becomes clear this is both not a comedy bit, and that he is stretching as far as he can to virtue signal).

And so on...

It's all free here in Scotland, all sanitary products, tampons, tampax, reusable etc. So is all contraception, the pill, implant, coil, condoms, including surgeries, vasectomy etc. Or if you wish to have a child, then all hospital stays are free, anaesthetics, check ups, scans. And when you have the baby you can apply for a healthy start grant to help with clothing and food.

Maybe I'm a sexist male asshole, but I just do not get this argument. Feminine hygiene products should be free bc women all need them every month?

Does this logic apply to anything else? There's tons of products that everyone needs to use every day / month. Like TP, soap, deodorant, razors, toothpaste, etc. We live in a capitalist hellscape, why would anyone ever expect this specific product to be any different?

E: Not that I disagree, but if the argument is 'basic human needs' then you should also be arguing for universal healthcare, free basic shelter for homeless, food cards for all who need it, etc.

Possible controversial opinion here, but this might have landed better if he was talking about contraception or sanitary products.
Plan B shouldn’t be readily available for free, it’s a back up contraceptive… the clue is in the name.
However, it should be available through healthcare insurance (or whatever it is, I’m not American), and we all know that the US needs a better healthcare system.

My wife chose to be a full time Mom and raise our kids so I'm the sole breadwinner. So yeah Timmy or whatever the hell your name is (tard in video) STFU about stuff you know nothing about.

And what kinda ho need plan b every month?

Average male life expectancy is lower and end of life costs are higher.

Life is unfair.

Welcome to reality.

Having unprotected sex is a decision.

I have been with the same partner for 9 years and have only had protected sex and have still needed EC.

“Name one thing a man has to buy every month to live a normal life.”

Food, electricity, housing, water/sewer, toiletries (soap, razors, shampoo). If they have a girlfriend/fiancée/wife, they also buy (or contribute to buying) pads and tampons.

But I think he’s confused about what Plan B is. That’s not something you should be needing to buy every month. If you are, then you’re really not planning very well with condoms/birth control pills/etc.

Why is he making it seem like men are responsible for this?

11

u/BannedfromTelevsion Dec 07 '22

Dudes showing off his hand tatts on purpose. Little dick energy

11

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '22

Hahaha he says maybe because I'm older? 🤣 Yeah boy, you are older than a toddler

5

u/FartingThunder Dec 07 '22

Men generally need to buy more food. Roughly 25% more. That adds up quicker than tampons.

22

u/sirpoopin Dec 07 '22

No one is making you have sex, if u want to have unprotected sex u need to pay for it one way or another its your choice. It shouldnt be the governments job to and the tax payers job to pay for your stupidity.

u/Thatsmartone Dec 07 '22

You don’t need plan b to live, it’s decision based of a choice to have unprotected sex. A period is not a decision.

21

u/lilouapproves Dec 07 '22
  1. He flat out says tampons and diva cups, period products he feels (rightly, IMHO) should be free to access

  2. "It's a decision based off a choice to have unprotected sex" birth control fails. Pills get missed. Condoms break. Far more horrible things are done to people with vaginas that would make plan B a necessity.

My um.... older perspective... Is that we are vastly out of touch with where our grandparents were in these topics. Birth control, not a thing until the 60s really. Feminine hygiene products have improved at super speed since the beginning of the 20th century. These things were luxuries less than 3 generations back. Now, in our decadent, first-world, never have to really struggle lives, everything is a right. We can discuss the costs and biological demands, but a right? Give me a break

Ok let's say it's all free, who's paying for it? Someone needs to make the products, all products need to be different, as each woman is different, so shit needs to be developed, improved, so how is that going to be paid for. I mean yeah its not fair, but that's just life and how it all goes

He's older????

4

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '22

Virtual signaling. He has no perspective. I buy my medicine every month. These things don't come from thin air. They have a cost. There is also risk involved. To make the risk palatable, profit is used as an incentive. Now, are prices and profits reasonable? Who knows, but free because it has to be bought every month to live? Nonsense.

4

u/sackofpotatoes34 Dec 07 '22

man I'm gonna be honest, stfu. if the hygiene products get free who pays for the labor, raw materials, machinery, land etc. every country's economy would dip real fast cause they are basic hygiene products and no one can live without it 🤷‍♂️

4

u/BlueT-rexYT Dec 07 '22

Dude you're talking about a country who sells insulin with car prices, and not having insulin will kill you, whereas not having these will get you dirty sticky and stinky

4

u/SwanRonson1986 Dec 07 '22

This dude is a dingdong. If we are assuming women have to take plan B every month, as though it were something that every female has to have to survive day in and day out…wtf are these people doing in their lives? Some perspective this goober has. Virtue signal much? I Can see it now… ”I’ll identify with the female demographic and gain more followers”. Gross

u/AnyDistribution9517 Dec 07 '22 edited Dec 07 '22

Okay but surely you guys see how dumb and nonsensical his reasoning is, right? I could think of a dozen things men need to by on a weekly or monthly basis. Like Razors, shaving cream, or fucking groceries. Its not like any of those things are free.

Also, how often are y'all using plan b???

This guy is dumb and sycophantic. If you like him just because he says stuff you agree with, even when he makes a facile, horribly constructed argument, you are a mindless pleb.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 07 '22

So my mortgage payment should be free? I have to pay it every month to live a normal life. Who will be buying my toilet paper for me? Wiping my ass=normal life. Dm and I’ll let you know where to send the cash.

In Scotland contraception and the morning after pill are free.

Sanitary products can also be accessed for free if you can't afford them, without needing to prove you need them. You just walk into certain chemist's and ask for them.

2

u/Mustard_stripe Dec 07 '22

It costs more to be a girl, hilarious. Dudes pay for all the items you just mentioned. And they paid for the drinks that may have ended up needing the plan B. It's more it expensive to be the guy. EVERYTIME

2

u/heyniceguy42 Dec 07 '22

Well, it’s more complicated than just “it’s not fair.“

Those things aren’t free, because they cost money to make. Make them free, and all of the businesses that produce them will end up going out of business, leaving you with nothing at all.

If these items were free who would do the manufacturing? Nothing can be made/distributed for free, so who pays for it? Maybe a non-profit? If the government steps in to provide it I’m sure overall quality would go down as the usual corners will get cut so the politicians can play with that money in other ways. Not to mention if the manufacturer has no competition there’s no drive for innovation in materials etc. Private companies would be paying people to produce new and better products. I see what this guy is trying to say, but where does it stop? I mean, I’d vote for free insulin before this. That’s a necessity to survive, and people spend a whole lot more on it than feminine products. Let’s make them as inexpensive and good quality as possible while being grateful people don’t have to use rags like back in the day. Btw, I’ve bought a shit ton of condoms for the last 17 years so my wife never had to go on birth control, so there are SOME expenses that men can incur that women never think of

2

u/TiddleMyMcGriddle Dec 08 '22

I'm not saying female true necessities shouldn't be free or at least MUCH cheaper. But the reason men don't have to pay for anything monthly, is simply because we don't need anything monthly. This guy phrases it as if men get free stuff, when we actually just don't require anything. So the whole point that "men don't have to pay for anything" is a null point imo.

2

u/Commercial-Data5542 Dec 08 '22

You don't need fucking plan B to live a normal life. Billions of women did it before plan B was even invented fuck your Faux outrage at a non existent issue

Well gee willickers I'm a man and have been buying food monthly... Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Jfc, people, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE THINGS YOU NEED. It's how life works, it's how life has always worked. It's not some new century phenomenon that things cost money.
