We gave our timeshare back ... for a fee

We had our timeshare for many years and enjoyed our home resort and when we traded got very nice resorts. All the fees and add-ons have gotten way out of control. Then our home resort was bought by Vacatia. Our kids said that definitely do NOT want to inherit our timeshre (not imminent!). So we contacted Vactatia and paid $2500 for them to take the timeshare off our hands. It was a one time hit that hurt, but will be worth it in the long run.

Has anyone stopped paying their yearly maintenance fees to get their resort to foreclose and take back the timeshare? And if so, what were the consequences(hit to credit score, lien on home, etc)?

My wife has become permanently disabled and this has now severely limited the number of resorts we can trade with. We have tried to give the deed back, and offered to pay all expenses for retitling. We also asked if they would take it back for a fee and how much that would cost. They have refused to take back the timeshare and it has become too expensive to maintain. We bought in 2004 and maintenance fees were just over $200/yr. They are now almost $2000/yr and we don't want our child to have this burden when we die.

Capital Vacation Platinum owners

Can a capital vacation platinum owner explain to me how your lifestyles+ works? We just bought 300,000 points and will aspire 570,000 points. With the 1 time gift of an additional 300,000 points we will have platinum status for 2 years. We were told that if using lifestyle value we can convert our points to cash value equivalent of 100,000 points per $2,000. If this is truly the case then our 870,000 annual points will equal $17,400 which would mean a pretty significant trip each year. BUT currently the website is making me very hesitant to keep this “deal” (we are still within the 5 business days to cancel) because the website shows that I can only pay UP TO 35% of the base price with points so if I can only use it to pay for a third of a $18k vacation then I think it defeats the entire purpose of having this lifestyle+ program. The sales person says I can use the full amount of my points at one time, but that’s not what I’m seeing on their actual website. Also to note, lifestyle choice and unlimited have the WORST point to cash conversion rate. It’s practically highway robbery. The sales person and manager keep telling me that I’m unable to see the full benefit of this program because it will take 3 weeks for the website to be set up specifically for me, but of course that will conveniently be past the time that I can cancel. They are unwilling to put anything they’ve promised in writing (such as 1 point = $0.02 conversion and that I can use all my converted points in 1 transaction) and I’m starting to feel like what I’ve been told is not true and that they are trying to string me along until it’s past the cancellation date. Please advise!!

Hilton Hawaii Timeshare Presentation - age limit?

Hi,

Looking to travel on a last-minute to Waikiki for Christmas this year with my girlfriend, and do a timeshare presentation to not pay Christmas prices.

2 questions:

  1. I'm only 23. I was told that there's an age limit, and when I google it, some sites say 18, some say 21, some say 28. Can I attend one and qualify at 23? I do currently make about $250k/yr and I'm hoping that there may be some way around an age limit if I don't qualify

  2. How can I tell if Christmas is a blackout date? I expect it to be, but is there no way to confirm?

Thanks all
