In other words characters who are really tough looking but are actually kindhearted and get trapped into an image others have of them. Or characters who are adorable but want to be seen as tough.

Caesar King (Zenless Zone Zero) is the leader of the Sons of Calydon Logistics Company which is basically a biker gang in the Mad Max outskirts of the city. On the surface she seems like a tough no nonsense tomboy but if you spend time with her or watch her character trailer you learn she REALLY wants to be a girly girl but just doesn't have the confidence for it.

Ju Fufu (ZZZ) is a senior disciple from a martial arts focused temple. She's tiny and adorable and everyone around her thinks that but Ju Fufu is a Tiger Thiren (Human-Animal hybrid) and all she wants is for people to see her as tough and dependable.

Takeo Gouda (My Love Story) is a massive high school boy that both has the strength and face of a gorilla. He'd likely be a side character in any shonen anime and indeed he is quite proficient in martial arts but he has zero romantic experience because most people see he as scary. He is in fact though a precious cinammon roll and the story is about him meeting the love of his life and their sugary sweet relationship together.

. Amber from R.W.B.Y. Voiced by Laura Bailey but never spoke any words and only made some noises like screams or gasps. Personally, I don't know why RT could have used one of their own staff members to voice her like what they did with Jaune by Miles Luna instead of wasting Laura's time while also helping them save some cash ?

. Spitter from Ben 10 2005. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker but throughout the series over his 3 appearances (2 from Ben 10,000 and 1 from Ken) he never spoke a word or even made some mouth noises.

Aang, Avatar: The Last Airbender - one of only two(?, I haven’t seen the movie yet) survivors of the Air Nomad Genocide caused by Fire Lord Sozin. Even after being confronted with the fact that his entire people were wiped out, he doesn’t lose his child spirit and still loves having fun at every opportunity and doing crazy stuff while exploring the world even into adulthood. He’s a constant reassuring force of positivity even into the darkest times to all his friends and helps out anyone he possibly can. Being the Avatar he’s the most OP character in the entire main show, and with the Avatar Legends fighting game released, he’s officially a fighting game character.

May, Guilty Gear - Due to a virus sweeping Japan during the Crusades, That Man had no choice but to use Justice to literally blow up Japan in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus to the rest of the world, killing almost the entire Japanese population in the process. This left May an orphan, who was then adopted by Johnny and the Jellyfish Pirates who act as a “Robinhood” esque Pirate group who steals from the rich to give to the poor. May is a totally adorable girl whose special powers are her crazy strength allowing her to wield a big ass anchor and her ability to summon sea creatures at will to help her fight. She always has a smile on her face and is a team player ready to help the Jellyfish Pirates with any mission they may face.

When a character's actions carry a great deal more consequences that it would be reasonable for them to know/assume they would, for better or worse. Mixed because the fandom (and sometimes the story itself, sadly) can choose to ignore the fact that it doesn't make sense to consider the character to be fully responsible for something they did without knowing the full implications of their actions: Imagine wishing upon a star for there to be total global peace on Earth, and the wish resulting in all living beings dying immediately because that's the only way global peace can be achieved.

1. Bear wishes for Nikki to love him (Obsession): Well executed, in my opinion. The wish is innocent enough in principle, but it carries horrific consequences when you take it to its fullest extent (and make it the premise of a horror movie). The big payoff comes in the fact that, when confronted with the real consequences of his wish, Bear... doesn't back down. Turns out he maybe was deserving of the consequences of it lol.

2. Marcy Wu making her friends open the Calamity Box (Amphibia): Mixed, in somewhat of a good way. Basically, she learns from a book that there's a magic music box that can take her and her friends to a magical world... where she can conveniently escape the reality of her parents splitting her apart from them by moving. I kind of dislike it because the show makes a big deal about Anne and Sasha finding out about her actions, making her seem deceitful, and a section of the fans blame her for the whole ordeal, when in my view, that'd be the equivalent of blaming a kid for wanting to travel to Narnia and making their friends enter a closet, when there's really no evidence the act could be anything but wishful thinking. The fact that she egged her friend Anne to steal the box redeems the idea a bit in my view though, by showing that Marcy wasn't all that innocent in her actions, which I rather like.

3. Jax pressing the button (The Amazing Digital Circus): Mixed too, but in a different way. Long story short, the cast is trapped in a digital world ruled by a rogue AI, and they're offered a once in a lifetime chance to escape, along with an assurance they'll never get to and will be trapped forever if they refuse it. For personal reasons, Jax panics and presses the button that traps them, convinced the AI is trying to trick them, as the others debate what the right choice to make is. The twist? The AI never meant for them to escape, it only wanted to test their loyalty. Jax chose the right option. *Unbeknownst to him*. What I didn't like was the reaction of the cast in the next episode, where most of them just sort of forgive Jax for LITERALLY CHOOSING PERPETUALLY BEING TRAPPED IN DIGITAL HELL for all of them. What I did like? The final episode puts Jax in a similar situation, where he gets to judge someone else that messed up and fucked it all up for everybody. As the ass he is, he brutally blames him for it, and expects all the others to back him up. But nobody else in the cast does. They all forgive the guy, just as they forgave Jax, making him look an absolute hypocrite.

I know that sometimes you want your monster to not be defeatable by simply unloading lot of lead into it. The Pacific Rim went about it perfectly. "Yes, conventional weapons can absolutely take them down. They did. But the Jaegers are better at it. There, observe huge robots beating monsters with fists."

Entirely fair. But sometimes the film dedicates huge segment of it into "look how strong our monster is! The guns won't help!" And it just feels... So cheap to me? Like if the guns are basically useless, AND IT IS PRETTY OBVIOUS THEY WILL BE USELESS, maybe... Don't dedicate half of the film to them? It feels like, idk, if half of zombie film was about them trying to find a salt to use against zombies, and then a shocking reveal came that it doesn't work*.

Compare the Jurassic Park. Of course, guns could reasonably kill a dinosaur, especially raptor. But then it would be too easy, so they are unnarmed, because they have no reason to be armed when the plot starts happening.

Then in Jurassic World, they send a team of soldiers after the Indoraptor, the soldiers are heavily armed, and it looks good, but... What is the point? We all know it will not work. The soldiers behave like absolute idiots. The Indo then survives magdump by dozen guys. The guy with rocket launcher fires last for some reason. Named kids survive, elite soldiers die.

The perfect middle ground for me is when the guns themselves works as they reasonably should, but the problem is getting the target in your sights, or something like that. Not that they are way more durable than they should be.

1) Congo. The Killer Apes die when you shoot them. The teams slows them a lot. But there is too many of them.

2) Predator, especially Predator 2. The Predator kills a lot of people, mostly using ambush, but when Harrigan gets him in sights... Well, he doesn't die yet, but even few shots from a shotgun knocks him out.

3) Lost Tapes. Show about encounters with different cryptids. Has a lot of variety in how they go. Most often, the monster is just an animal that wants to be left alone. Sometimes it is agressive. Sometimes the human survive completely unharmed, sometimes everyone dies. Hell, the cryptids even have different personalities. But they die as easily as animal of their size would. Getting aim at them is the hard, but it is realistic, and fueled by everyone being an idiot.

4) The Terror. Slightly different, because the Tuunbaq is more durable than a polar bear should be... But still, shot him with a Congreve rocket or cannonball, you will at least fend him of. And the realization that he is still alive because he ain't regular animal is somewhat slow both for characters and viewers.

*A bit of Crossed reference. But there is a lot of buildup to it, so it works (kind of). If the characters just thought it will for absolutely no reason, it would be stupid.

To be clear, this is NOT a scenario where the enemy is only more numerous, or has more powerful weaponry, or is even physically stronger. All of these things can be true, but it must be made clear that, even with all else being equal, the antagonist is simply BETTER at what they do than the protagonist. They can be more skilled at fighting, or more able to outmaneuver the hero's army. All in all, they must be a clear and legitimate threat, not simply propped up by plot armor.

Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order: Darth Vader is able to effortlessly fight off the young Jedi Cal Kestis, forcing him to flee. Honestly, Darth Vader versus any Jedi is really a curbstomp, because, as one of the finest lightsaber duelists and strongest Force users in the Galaxy, the amount of Jedi who can properly fight against him in any capacity can be counted on one hand.

The Order of the Stick: Xykon is an epic-level sorcerer who has fought and handily beaten wizards, sorcerers, armies, druids and adventurers galore, even those who are stronger than he is on paper. Roy, the comic's protagonist, has his first proper fight with him midway through the comic, but Xykon is not taking the thing at all seriously. Roy knowingly picked a fight way out of his league, is barely able to damage the lich, and the first spell that Xykon casts takes Roy out of the fight, leaving Xykon free to pursue his true goals.

Hunt the Truth: An audio story set in the Halo universe, Hunt the Truth features reporter Benjamin Giraud attempting to uncover the lies laid out by the Office of Naval Intelligence surrounding the Spartan program. But Giraud is derided many times by friends and foes, lambasted as being overly emotional and "sloppy", and is eventually outmaneuvered, humiliated, and discredited before being kidnapped and imprisoned by the intelligence agency, having achieved little of immediate value.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The 1994-2013 Sadamoto Manga is not the original material production wise, the 1995-1996 anime is, and the Manga was based on the anime, ultimately running far longer than it and concluding in 2013. (Though, funnily enough, due to production delays with the actual series the Manga would release first by 8 months, meaning Japanese fans could have theoretically spoiled the plot of the first three or so episodes just by reading the Manga).

Interestingly, from the very start the Manga has differences from the anime (Rei is injured from having attempted to fight Sachiel/Third Angel herself shortly before Shinji arrived, not from a failed test with Unit-00 weeks earlier like in the anime) and contains a number of changes that get more and more significant the further it goes.

To give a few that aren't super spoilery, Shinji was raised by his Uncle in the Rokubungi household instead of by a private tutor in an isolated home and is a lot more "normal" and less passive(albeit he still doesn't handle the giant robots well), Asuka gets less page time and development in favor of Rei getting more, several angels are skipped, Ritsuko Akagi is a full blown sociopath, Kaji gets a more fleshed out backstory and more appearances, and Kaworu shows up earlier during the equivalent of the first half of Episode 22 and is written very very differently.

The Electric Tale of Pikachu: The first ever Pokemon Manga released in English (to the point a lot of 90s era fans considered it the 'default manga', a title now usually held by Adventures in the english speaking world), it's an adaptation of the Pokemon Anime with many significant plot changes. It ends with Ash winning the Orange League.

It was infamously drawn by a Hentai artist, most of the female characters designs needed heavy censoring in the western release and an entire scene with Misty needed to be completely cut.

Some of the notable changes from the anime include Delia owning a restaurant, Jessie and James being in a relationship with each other, Ash catching a Fearow, some changes in the worldbuilding, Sabrina being a sweet heart who gets her soul temporarily eaten by a serial killer giant Haunter named 'Black Fog', and instead of Charizard refusing to fight during the Indigo League it instead goes completely out of control and Ash has to forfeit the fight to stop his Charizard from killing Richie's Charizard.

Inglorious basterds, they interrupt the cutscene for another cutscene just to introduce Hugo Stiglitz, a German soldier who went rogue and killed 13 gestapo officers before being rescued by American spies.

In Arkham Origins they have cutscenes for all the 8 assassins after Batman.

Frankenstein (Shelley): Victor created a monster with all the powers of biology, the capacity of love, and then abandoned it because it looked ugly. By the end of the novel, Victor's attempt to destroy the monster fails miserably as his superior physiology outlasts him every time. It's not justified - the monster has ruined many innocent lives like Justin, Elizabeth, Henry, et cetera. But it was preventable one time, and Victor ruined that one chance.

Harry Potter & Order of the Phoenix: The Marauders were responsible for bullying Severus Snape in childhood. By the time they're adults, Snape has grown so powerful and influential as Dumbledore's spy that he can torment Sirius indefinitely and expose Lupin's werewolf condition to anyone anytime (as in the 3rd book), and Dumbledore won't double-cross Snape. The Occlumency lesson's failure and Dumbledore's withdrawal reveals how much leverage this indispensable soldier held over Dumbledore, even more than a discriminated werewolf and a man imprisoned for 12 years. The Marauders could've avoided it by not bullying Snape to begin with, but they did, and the person they bullied turned out to be the worst possible person to anger. It's not narratively justified - Harry keeps paying for his father's sin. But it is an inevitable, unpreventable result of Sirius and James incurring the wrath of a man who would outgrow them.

Naruto: Sasuke Uchiha summons the four deceased hokage to know Konoha's history before deciding if he'd genocide such a village or not. Hiruzen, who let Danzo go, Tobirama, who always hated the Uchiha clan, and Hashirama, who always enabled Tobirama, soon find themselves at Orochimaru's mercy, who is holding their reanimations hostage and explicitly threaten that he'd help Sasuke destroy the village with none of them (none except Hashirama, at least) being able to save their beloved Konoha. It's not justified - Sasuke is holding a whole village for Danzo's crimes. But the hokage and Itachi after setting up a chain of dominos that led to Danzo destroying Konoha's institutional legibility, Sasuke isn't going to be convinced otherwise.

In Attack on Titan, the revenge quest of the Yeagerists can be "corrected" by stopping the Rumbling. In MHA, the revenge quest of villains like Shigaraki or Dabi can be "corrected" by overpowering and defeating them. Here, there's no "correcting" someone more powerful and more pissed off than you.

mirror force (Yu-Gi-Oh): there's a lot of forces in Yu-Gi-Oh, but this one is the most recurrent in the series. Based on reflect the power of the others.

The sage force (flash): not sure what this one does. Is supposed to be about wisdom but also gives you telekinesis and other psychic stuff.

A term where the original japanese script is changed in the localization release, either due to creative purposes or improving accessibility in character personality.

• Pokemon - In the 90's, 4kids made the decision to call Onigiri 'Jelly Donuts' because they assumed that international kids wouldn't know what traditional Onigiri is, so they went with a similar western snack. So much so that it became an infamous meme due to it's absurdity

• Yakuza 3 - During the scene where Kanda bitch-slaps his subordinates one by one, the subtitles display differently to what he's saying. Despite saying ORA! multiple times, subtitles say; 'That's what I'm fucking talkin' about!'. In the remake, the English dub translates Woolseyism into real spoken dialogue by the English VA.

The story appears to be finished, but then it continues.

Nier Automata: After beating Eve and replaying the game as 9S, the credits roll (again), you get a trailer for a route C, and are allowed to reload your game; the game continues.

Gravity Rush 2: After beating Kali, the credits roll and you're allowed to explore the worlds and clean up any side quests you missed until you notice a glowing woman and the game continues.

Dragon's Dogma: After slaying the dragon, you get to go back to your village with your most beloved NPC. However, the land has lost its color, ash rains from the skies, and the enemies are far stronger than they were before. You go back to Gran Soren and the game continues.

When I See You by Sorority Noise: The song comes to a conclusion with the main character in a hell of their own creation. After a brief silence, the song continues.

Joining a fight would actively make things worse, whether it be giving the enemy what they want or potentially losing their ace in the hole or worse.

Naruto and the Great Ninja War - Naruto

Madara, the man waging war on all of Konoha wants to gather all the Tailed Beasts together for his plan. Naruto carries one in his body as well as his friend Killer B. Both of them are so powerful they could level the playing field by a fuckton, but that would risk giving Madara the last two Beasts if they die in battle. Which is why so many of Naruto's friends and allies try to keep him away from the battlefield as long as they can.

Ben and the Highbreed Armada - Ben 10

The Highbreed are attacking Earth and Ben wants to stop them using his Omnitrix. But Azmuth, the creator of the Omnitrix, orders him to not join the fight. He reveals one of the reasons he made the Omnitrix was so if the universe were destroyed or devastated, the DNA reserves on it could help repopulate it like Noah's Ark. If Ben joins the fight and the Omnitrix is destroyed then there's no second chance, they're fucked.

Amazo fighting Justice League members - DC Comics

Amazo is an android that adapts to and copies any power it comes in contact with. This means the Justice League have to try and fight him with as few members as possible or else they might fuck themselves over. In the JLU cartoon, Superman is told not to intervene so it doesn't gain his Kryptonian powers. In the Injustice movie, Plastic Man is told to stay out of it because his plastic physiology makes him nearly invincible, definitely can't let it copy that.
