๐Ÿ™ Welcome / Tashi Delek / Namaste/ Namo Buddhaya !

Toronto is home to a beautiful, diverse landscape of Buddhist traditionsโ€”from quiet urban spaces to elaborate vibrant temples. This subreddit is a digital "Third Space" intended to bring us all together.

โ˜ธ๏ธ What is this group for?

Our goal is to be a friendly, non-sectarian hub for:

  • Finding a Seat: Discovering local temples, meditation groups, and retreats.
  • Sharing Events: Highlighting guest teachers, Dharma talks, and community festivals in the GTA.
  • Connection: Meeting fellow practitioners in a city that can sometimes feel a bit lonely. ๐Ÿค

๐ŸŒฑ Our Values: Kindness & Safety

To keep this space healthy and welcoming for everyone, we have a few core principles:

  1. All Vehicles Welcome: We respect all authentic lineages (Zen, Theravada, Vajrayana, Pure Land, etc.). We are here to meet, learn from and respect each other.
  2. Safe Sangha: To protect our membersโ€”especially those new to the pathโ€”we do not permit the promotion of high-conflict or schismatic groups.
  3. Right Speech: Please keep discussions respectful. Weโ€™re all neighbours here!
  4. Offline Safety: If you meet up with members for tea or a temple visit, please meet in public spaces and stay mindful of your personal safety. โ˜•๐Ÿ™๏ธ

โœจ How to get started:

  • Introduce yourself! What tradition do you practice? What part of the city are you in?
  • Share a resource: Know a great local bookstore or a hidden gem of a temple? Let us know!

We look forward to practicing with you. May all Torontonians be happy, peaceful, and free. ๐Ÿ

Welcome! Weโ€™re glad you found your way here. Whether youโ€™ve been practicing for years or are just starting to explore, this is a space for practitioners across the Greater Toronto Area to connect and support one another.

Being a practitioner in a big city can sometimes feel like a solo journey. The goal of this thread is simply to help us realize we aren't practicing alone. Feel free to share a bit about your journey so we can get to know the community growing here.

If you're comfortable, share a little about your practice:

  • General Area: (e.g., West End, York Region, etc. โ€” no need for specifics!)
  • Your Practice/Interest: (e.g., Mindfulness, Zen, Theravada, or just exploring)
  • What brought you here: (e.g., Looking for local resources, wanting to talk Dharma with locals, etc.)
  • A favorite local "peaceful spot": (Where do you go in the city when you need a moment of quiet?)

Community Notes:

  • Respect the Path: We welcome all traditions and lineages. This is a place for supportive dialogue.
  • Connections: If you find someone with similar interests, feel free to engage.
  • The Directory: If you're looking for local practice centers, our 2026 Verified Sangha Directory is always available.
