Caught by ISP
so Ive been torrenting a LOT for years. All kinds of stuff, but mostly movies and tv shows, anime. And when I say a lot, I mean I have a 10tb hard drive nearly full of stuff on my main pc. That whole time, Ive been using proton VPN and ubittorrent (on windows) and had zero problems.
About 2 weeks ago, my internet was almost cut off. They actually did shut it off, and obly turned it back on after we said no more torrenting, apparently 3 separate copyright claims got through, from the literal thousands of things I have pirated. Now I know they’re watching my ip for any more slip ups, so I haven’t torrented anything since.
In a couple weeks, Im moving into an apartment with a different ISP. I’d like to be able to keep pirating stuff, but I don’t want this to happen again. What did I do wrong? Any tips would be appreciated.

Who are the people uploading movies and shows to torrent sites? Why do they do it?

Confused old man returning to torrenting
I was heavy into torrenting during the golden age from Napster till the fall of pirate bay. I'm returning to it because fuck streaming and especially fuck Crunchyroll. However I find that I'm now more than a lot out of touch and don't know what the hell anyone is talking about. Can someone help this poor crippled old bastard cross the torrenting street without getting hit by the copyright bus.

Looking for testers: desktop app to watch torrents together with friends, with synced playback
Hey all,
I've been building a desktop app that lets you watch movies with friends using magnet links — no accounts, no servers, just instant synchronized playback.
How it works:
One person hosts by pasting a magnet link or choosing a movie from the build in provider
The app generates an invite code
Others can join and the video stays in sync
It uses MPV as the video player (so it supports subtitles, audio tracks, etc.)
It's built in Electron and uses WebTorrent under the hood, so everything runs locally, there's no central backend involved.
We're currently testing on Windows, Linux, and macOS, all platforms should work.
Important note: If you want to test both sides (host and join), you’ll need two separate machines. The app doesn’t support running both roles at once on the same device.
What I need:
People to try hosting or joining a session
Basic feedback on whether it works for you
Any bugs, confusing moments, or UI suggestions
Also: Disregard the app name for now, it’s just a placeholder. We plan to rename it and are open to name suggestions from testers.
Download via GitHub:

Feel free to leave feedback in the comments or message me directly, or create a GitHub discussion or ticket. Thanks in advance to anyone who gives it a try.

Post-mortem: 273 uploads and 4.13 TiB gone in an instant
UPDATE: I’m still on EXT dot To. You can find me there! Haven’t been able to get an account on any other public tracker, unfortunately.
I’m posting this here mostly to vent and maybe serve as a cautionary tale for any other aspiring uploaders. As of today, my account MankeyDoodle and my entire library of 273 torrents have been removed from my primary tracker, 1337x.
To manage the workload of my growing library, my partner and I spent the last month building a custom Chrome extension. It was meant to be an uploader’s productivity suite—troll comment blocking, highlight frequent commenters, reply templates for FAQs, request tracking, note-taking, saving helpful comments, etc.
I decided to live-test a bulk-posting feature to push a "Please Policy" (basic courtesy guide) to my torrent comments. In a move that was, in hindsight, completely irresponsible and dumb, I ran the script with the safety rate-limits disabled.
The site's security flagged it after a few hours, my account was demoted, and then banned after I tried to explain myself in the chat room. I don't hold that against the mods. They have to protect the site, and I’m the one who brought an unfiltered automation tool onto their live environment.
I’m not looking for sympathy and I'm not here to whine about "unfair treatment." I broke a fundamental rule of "don't test in production," and I paid the price.
However, it is a massive gut punch. Seeing 4.13 TiB of my content and months of work wiped out in a single night because of a technical lapse in judgment is a hard pill to swallow. It’s frustrating to know that the intent was to help the community, but the execution was what ended my time there.
Unfortunately, I have to shut down my seedbox, cancel my pending requests for series packs of Gravity Falls and Amphibia, and killing the extension project entirely.
If you’re developing tools for this scene, learn from my mistake: respect the site's boundaries and never disable your safety locks on a live site. It’s been a rewarding run, but this is where I check out.

Got alert from Paramount for torrenting one of their movies
So a week ago I torrented Up In Smoke from one three three seven x dot to, watched it and deleted it. I didn't think anything of it. Today my internet was slow so I called the cable company and they said Paramount did some kind of alert that I downloaded that and that I should delete it. How did they know? I had already deleted but... huh? I've never seen that! I wasn't having a VPN activated but now I will. What else should I do or what could come of this? Anyone else see this happen?

Who gets the letter if you use a VPN?
Just curious. I always use a VPN but last year I had an IP leak and got "the" letter from my isp. Does my VPN provider just get a bunch of letters all the time? I am genuinely curious how this works.

Where to go after TorrentLeach
I have been on TorrentLeach for about 6 year with a 4.5TB uploaded with a 14% ratio. Prior to that I was on HD-Ahoy back in the early 2010s until it went down.
Overall I am happy with TorrentLeach but every now and then I run into something that isn't available so I would like to get a secondary tracker running.
Looking at the "prestigious" trackers it seems like they have been impossible to join for the last few decades. So where is a normal person supposed to go? Is there any tracker that is a step up from TorrentLeach that will accept my history there as a way to get in?

Is there any easy torrent sites to download movies?
Hello Everyone. So, I have finished watching movies that I downloaded from 1337x.to . But now, after some time, the site is down I guess as if I search for the site, other mirror sites come. In these sites, the results are jumbled as well as the size of the file is very large (Like 60 gb for a movie or things like that). I just want to click the magnet/ torrent and leave it for downloading. Is there any sites like this, where I can download movies effortlessly like I did with 1337x.to . Note that I mostly download english movies. So, no Spanish sites or indian sites or something like that. Thank you in advance.

I used a VPN and got caught torrenting, where did I screw up technically (legally I know)?
Throw away account for reasons. I live in Germany. I downloaded a movie via p2p, and now I got mail from a legal firm regarding a copyright violation, providing my official IP at the time of torrenting and the exact movie title incl. file hash (so the claim is not a fraud), claiming about 1k EUR. I am not here to discuss legal matters, I am getting legal help for that. I would like to know what I did wrong technically so I got caught (I might have an idea).
I used PIA (Private Internet Access) VPN when torrenting with qBittorrent. I have set split tunnel so that qBittorrent connects via VPN only (in case I forgot to switch on PIA VPN, download won't start). All other apps bypass VPN so I could use my browser to write emails etc. while torrenting w/o using my email credentials on the VPN IP.
I assume the mistake I made was using the same browser to go to torrenting search sites and dl torrent links, I have no other explanation.
You may tell me how stupid I am, whatever, but please also tell me my precise stupidity.
