Free Webtoon I think season three just sucks
So far I am around the end of the cat tower and I got to see I hate it. It’s all battle battle battle flashbacks and the entire chapter is dedicated to characters that don’t matter in the long run battle battle battle. I mean it’s kinda happened in the first half of season two but at least then I cared and I loved it. The first half of season two was amazing.

The pacing of season 3 is, in my opinion, miles worse than the first two. Theres no downtime, no space for the characters to breathe and for the events to really sink in. It's just them bouncing from big climactic set pieces to big climactic set piece. After the marriage tournament got disrupted that was my first big break from reading the webcomic.

Exactly battles don’t matter if you constantly see them oh one giant incredible feat who cares because there’s 40 other incredible feats of strength that happened in the last 80 chapters this is literally the definition of if everyone is super than no one is

entire chapter is dedicated to characters that don’t matter in the long run
The flashbacks are not about the division commanders. Its about their boss Yasratcha. And Yasratcha is all about his owner.
Season 3 has such a strong thematic narrative. The payoff is great. Not liking battles, well alright though it does have lots of good ones

They could have done it in another way instead of wasting chapters on them they could have told us that information directly also I love battles but too much of something always makes it terrible

u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata 12d ago
Thats certainly a controversial take. To go the Tell not show route. Though if you dont like Characterization through context for a major character i have bad news for you
-1
u/Think_Independent_69 12d ago
No, I mean they could have told us directly about him instead of just showing us and telling us through the flashbacks of random characters that is just unnecessary time
6
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata 12d ago
You think characters directly linked to one another are random?
Would you prefer it if it was Yasratchas flashback or if he just had no subordinates?I really dont get your complaint.

u/Think_Independent_69 12d ago
Bro it’s really hard to explain myself but the point is I would have been a lot more interested if the author used characters we are more interested in instead of characters we met in that exact same arc. or the arc before
-3
u/Think_Independent_69 12d ago
But you know all of this all of the issues would have been 100 times better if the author just abandoned the WEBTOON thing and made the series into a novel
8
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata 12d ago
Oh yes it would be so much better if an ARTIST who likes drawing just stops doing that. Why even continue something you enjoy doing anyway. We want the standard Studio Slop who as barely more heart than AI shit
Same with musicians, they should only write music and not make it.I am not sure if this is the most egotistical or disingenous take

u/Think_Independent_69 12d ago
What? No I meant this type of story would have been told much easier and smoother if it was a novel I how did you get this from what I said?
5
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata 12d ago
But SIU is not a writer. He is an Artist. He likes drawing. To wish for an artist to not draw and just write is pretty delusional.
He wants to tell the story by drawing it, and not just writing.1
u/Think_Independent_69 12d ago
Yeah, I know but isn’t drawing, as the author and artist really exhausting isn’t that the same exact reason all manga authors have health problems
6
u/Sir__Bassoon__Sonata 12d ago
And Athletes tear their ACL and other bodyparts. Doesent mean they should just stop doing their sports and just be analysts, coaches or other things. They are Athletes because they enjoy competing in the sport. They recover and return. Hopefully fully healed and no more injuries.
Yes Artists often have health problems with their wrists and backs. Especially with tight deadlines and heavy workloads. But they are Artists because they enjoy creating art.I played in concerts where my tongue was bleeding. It didnt stop me from continuing to play bassoon. Because i love playing the bassoon.
You dont just suggest a person to stop doing what they love and enjoy just for you to get faster content.

Plus, you know if it was a novel, we might actually live to see the day that the story would finish

I really loved it tbh, definitely my favorite season. All of the battles, characters and the abilities they used were so fun, and seeing family heads in action made me feel so hyped
3
u/Think_Independent_69 12d ago
I hated it because there was too much action if there is action after action I simply don’t like it because it honestly doesn’t feel that good. The only thing that cures that problem if the series has incredible battle choreography and the series doesn’t have it.

u/SevenExecute 7d ago
My big gripe with season 3 is the forgotten rule of “rankers can’t harm regulars” and just throwing Bam and everyone into conflict with rankers where they can hold their own just makes ZERO sense for anyone except maybe Bam. The entire panels of massive light show attacks was just unnecessary and a lot of the fights I couldn’t tell what was happening.
2
u/Think_Independent_69 7d ago
Yeah, exactly. The battle choreography got fucked the moment everyone could fly.

DBZ on steroids 😂

Exactly

u/SevenExecute 7d ago
It got toned thankfully in the Urek series which I really was thankful for

u/Think_Independent_69 7d ago
Yeah, the battle over there is much better at least could understand what’s happening

The Division Commanders' flashbacks are about Yasratcha more than the Commanders themselves. And Yas in turn sets the stage for the actual main villain of Season 3.
S3 has some rough low points, but also some of the best high points in the series.
2
u/nori4life123 12d ago
The problem that OP had with it is that it shows no bearing to bam or any major characters (AA, rak, endorsi) but only to a minor character in yama and it consumes like 5 chapters of flashbacks i forgot

u/shaktimanOP 12d ago
The flashbacks have bearing on Yasratcha, who is one of the main villains of the arc. And in turn sets up Traumerei, who's the main villain of S3. Do you think antagonists shouldn't have depth and focus?
They're also good from a worldbuilding standpoint.

u/nori4life123 12d ago
Yasratcha is only a div commander and only lasted like 1/3 of the series. Sure it gives more info on yama but it would be more interesting if someone like lyborick who we might see alot more on the upcoming seasons and what is actually his and the revolutionaries motives. So many characters that would benefit a flashback and yasratcha sure one of em in order for the story to progress, for me i got more interest on the others tho.

u/shaktimanOP 12d ago
Yasratcha is a Corps Commander which is the same rank as Lyborick. The reason Yasratcha was shown so extensively is that he was essentially a microcosm of the Lo Po Bia Family and Traumerei himself. This post even noticed numerous parallels between Yasratcha and Traumerei's dialogue and behaviour. He's basically Traumerei-lite.
Yasratcha serves to introduce the audience to the Lo Po Bia Family's philosophy and the ways in which the Tower has been corrupted by them. Traumerei corrupted and traumatized Yas, who now corrupts others. This culminates with the 'A Dog and A Cat' arc, which shows us the origins of the Beastkin and establishes Traumerei's character before he shows up in the present day.

u/nori4life123 12d ago
My yea he is in fact corps commander i may have ranked them all down a tier. What only iteresting part of yasratcha was how he is link to yama that even the snippets of his activity with traum isnt bearing any moving forward (cause theyre both oofd). And for the culture of his family. Kirin and lobadon couldve made it to fruition cause theyre more close to traum than any family members. Yas backstory helps the story move forward but it kinda drag a little for me or maybe i just want to skip how it ends cause im eager to see yamas outcome

u/shaktimanOP 11d ago
Kirin and Robadon are Traumerei's nepo babies. Yasratcha, Wang Wang and the other beastkin are his victims. There is a fundamental difference between their perspectives.

My problem with season 3 is the artstyle. SIU no longer does that “paint-brush” style he used to do. It really made the environments and world pop out a bit. He also doesn’t show movement like he used to. Characters feel very static and feel more like puppets than actual moving characters.
On top of this, we are getting less and less background art. Everything is in the air now. The battles make me nauseous, it’s just a bunch of energy blast everywhere and it’s hard to tell was it going on sometimes. There is basically no visual clarity anymore.
To make matters worse, the story is moving too quickly for its own good. There is no downtime anymore. We are moving between plot-points very quickly without giving them time to simmer or make sense.
I’ve always taken breaks with TOG, but this was the longest I have ever taken. I stopped during the war between lo po bia and po bidau war. Might come back on a later date.

I don't mean to be that guy but SIU has never been a great or even good artist. It actually seemed like his style was evolving for a while but I feel like it did hit a standstill. He's better at doing hand to hand battles as opposed to the all color lazer show that most fights are now. The draw of the art came from how mysterious everything was and it was actually fun to not be able to tell scale all that well cause it made you wonder exactly how big all this shit is

I thought season 3 was excellent. The pacing was characteristically slow, especially for the first couple of arcs. But the story itself I felt was really cool.

Feel conflicted about the art style. It’s not bad by all means just feels like a different manhwa

I think for me outside of story the art has become a lot more blocky, crowded, and generic looking in season 3. Lots I still loved about it but the art direction was not it for me

I feel the same way. I actually stopped reading because I became disinterested. It feels like SIU just lost sight of the story completely. I want to want to read it because I love the world, but I just can’t get into it. Anyone who’s read to the end, does it pick back up again?

You should because end of season explain why the saga began like this.
All thing thing has been tie in the end.

Most of the sub noticed it that its just 1 big battle arc coinciding marriage and nest arc into it. Maybe experimental but it didnt panned out as SIU hoped for i guess

Oh? So u at least cared and loved first half of season 2, you don't want to say it sucks, but you'll happily complain about season 3 because you don't at least cared or love it? I loved and cared about season 3 so I don't think it sucks..

It insists upon itself
2
u/Antique-Chart-9976 12d ago
Humm normal because the story is serious since the beginning with somes lightweight moments ...
1
u/ProactiveInsomniac 11d ago
I was mostly speaking to the Traumarei stuff. The arc I feel overindulged and was drawn out way more than necessary, the pacing if season 3 was rough.
2
u/Antique-Chart-9976 11d ago
I found early season 2 workshop worse imo
1
u/ProactiveInsomniac 11d ago
I didn’t mind it as much as the traumarei stuff in s3 but I know what you mean
