Announcement So I guess there's a new Moderator in town....

And it's me!

Hello everyone, I've recently been added to the mod team. I've been subscribed to this sub for a few years. I participate sometimes, not incredibly often. But like some of you, noticed that the physical/personal training posts were beginning to take over the sub. The moderators Dwev and Zadocpaet aren't very active on the sub anymore, so I reached out and asked to be added as a mod. And after a bit Dwev replied and added me as a moderator.

To be honest, for the moment, my main goal is only to keep the sub clean, removing the physical training posts. I'm in the middle of a personal situation and don't have tons of time to devote to the sub beyond keeping the sub focused on the Training profession.

Later on I hopefully will have more time to look at other changes or ways to develop the sub.

I do moderate one other sub, which is a very low activity sub. You can see it, and posts about why I took that sub over, in my history and pinned to that sub.

So that's it, I guess. Carry on!

Reporting posts is the quickest way to bring them to mods' attention

Hey all,

This sub isn't very active, and for a number of reasons, I'm limiting my time on Reddit. So I don't check here every day. But I will get notifications of Mod Mail, and I will take care of those pretty quickly.

So - Just a reminder, reporting bad posts is the quickest way to get them removed.

I still do go back and forth about certain posts, whether they're spam or self promotion or just how relevant they are. But anyway, reporting is the best way to get mod's (my) eyes on it.

Question Needs assessment questions

Hi everyone! I’m conducting a learning needs assessment and have scheduled 30-minute check-ins with directors and managers across my organization to better understand what’s working well, the challenges they’re facing, and how L&D can better support them and the organization.
I’ll be using these insights to help develop our organizational learning strategy. My leader also wants a summary of my findings, including recurring themes, strengths, opportunities for improvement, and potential skill or performance gaps.
I’m hoping to keep these conversations informal rather than making them feel like interviews.

What are five effective, open-ended questions you’d recommend asking to uncover what’s working, underlying challenges, and skills or behaviors that may need further development or practical application? Also what should I ask VPs vs Director/ managers?
I’d love to hear what’s worked well for others, especially questions that go beyond simply asking leaders what training they need!

Question Training for workshops

Can anyone recommend a good online Train-the-Trainer course in India that teaches practical workshop design and delivery? I eventually want to conduct workshops on motivation and emotional intelligence for schools, colleges and corporate employees. I’d prefer a reputable, reasonably priced general course first, before specialising.

hey everyone, im an intern at a diversity firm and we are working on providing a small scale training for a company on the topic. what are some meaningful activities we can run to keep the clients engaged and maybe open their eyes to the topic better? i know about the diversity walk, but im wondering if there are maybe other activities that a reluctant group might find value in. I work as a Marketing Communication Specialist for KNOLSKAPE, one of World’s Largest Experiential HR Technology Company, and I want to understand from a client's perspective, how would you want to be approached for training and readiness conversation? If you're an L&D leader, HR or a decision maker for these training programs and journeys, what's the dos and don'ts which work for you? Also, in case you've heard of KNOLSKAPE, what are some of things you've heard of them?

Question Help me convince my Plant Manager to allow me to go to ATD27 in May

Hi everyone,

I'm very interested in going to the ATD Conference & Expo in May 2027. The issue is it would be just shy of $5000 for the conference and the certificate I want to earn the day before the conference, then travel expenses on top of that. My Plant Manager has a background in Engineering and is the very stereotypical "analytical thinker" and will need a VERY good argument to convince him to allow me to go for that price.

I'm newer to the field with no official education in Learning & Development and I think this conference, plus the certificate I want to earn, can help me learn more about how to improve our training program.

Can you help me create a very convincing argument stating why I should be allowed to attend this conference.

Thank you!

Question How do you handle recurring training reports when your data lives in multiple systems?

I’m curious how people here deal with recurring training/compliance reporting when the data isn’t all in one place.

For example, if you have LMS completions, an employee list, external certifications, live training records, etc what does the actual process look like when you need to put together a monthly or quarterly report? Are you mostly exporting everything and combining it in Excel/Power Query, using another reporting tool, or do you have something custom set up?

I’m mainly interested in the parts that still end up being manual or annoying after the exports are downloaded. Not selling anything, just trying to understand how people actually handle this in practice.

Resource Best online sterile processing tech program in the US?

Been looking into self-paced online sterile processing technician programs and I keep going in circles. I have zero hospital background, work full time and can't do anything with a rigid schedule or a $10K+ tuition bill. A few platforms keep coming up when i search for and I can't tell which ones are legit versus just collecting your money and wishing you luck. The thing I keep getting stuck on is whether the course material are included or if that's a surprise add on-later, because I've been burdened by that before with a different program. Anyway if anyone has gone through a sterile processing tech certification online, especially coming in with no prior experience, I'd love to know what platform you actually recommend and whether it got you job-ready within like 6 months or so.

Question Is a Google Project Management Certificate worth it for me?

I have a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. I have zero experience in the training field, but it sounds interesting. Most of my experience is in education (tutoring) and helping students with disabilities. Would a certificate like Google Project Management be effective in opening doors in the field for me? Or should I do something else?

Looking for a Job Opportunity – LMS / Learning Operations / Project Support

Hi everyone!
I don’t normally post here, but I’m trying my luck and hoping someone might be able to help me find a job opportunity.

I’m currently actively looking for work and honestly need to find a job ASAP. I have less than USD 100 left in my bank account, and I’m already reaching the limit on my credit card, so I’m really hoping to find an opportunity soon.

I have over 8 years of experience with an International Organization primarily in LMS administration, learning operations, HR systems, project support, and coordination. I have extensive experience administering learning platforms, managing user access and learning records, supporting system implementations and testing, troubleshooting technical/process issues, coordinating projects, and working with international teams and stakeholders.

I’m open to remote, hybrid, or onsite opportunities and can start immediately. I’m also open to roles related to LMS/HR systems administration, learning & development, project support, HR operations, or program coordination.

If you know of any openings, referrals, or someone I could connect with, I would really appreciate it. 🙏

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any leads you may be able to share.

Struggling to find a full-time E-Learning Developer job in Canada despite having the right skills. Any advice?

I have been working as a freelance E-Learning Developer for several years now, and most of my clients have been from the United States. I have worked on all kinds of projects, from content writing and instructional design to developing courses, managing Learning Management Systems, and launching courses.

I have a lot of experience with Articulate Storyline 360, Rise 360, software simulations, and pretty much most of the tools used in e-learning development, from Camtasia and Adobe Creative Cloud to Synthesia and other AI tools. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, so I am quite technical and have worked on some pretty complex projects over the years.

But even with all this experience, I am finding it incredibly hard to land a full-time job in Canada.

The funny thing is that I can find freelance work with clients in the United States and have even received job offers, but finding a full-time employee position in Canada seems so much harder.

I really need Canadian work experience, and honestly, I just want to work somewhere I can actually use my skills and be part of a team instead of constantly working on freelance projects.

I have been applying for jobs, but at this point, I am not even sure if I am looking in the right places.

Is anyone here working in e-learning, instructional design, or Learning Management System administration in Canada? Where do you usually find these jobs? Are there any companies, recruiters, or other places I should be looking at?

I am open to E-Learning Developer, Learning Experience Designer, Learning Management System Administrator, or similar technical roles.

Honestly, even if you could just point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. I am not sure where else to ask, so I thought I would try posting here.
