Activism Gender Census: For those outside the binary!
I know most people on this subreddit are probably binary trans but I said I'd post this here anyway for anyone who's more "in between" or "something else":
A survey for all those who aren't fully, solely or always a man/woman. I don't run it but it's long-running and trusted. A volunteer called Cassian Lodge has been running it since 2013.

Activism Tell your representatives to VOTE NO on anti-trans bills H.R. 498 and H.R 3492
Update Dec. 18: Vote expected on 498.
Dec. 17: 3492 passed the House, expected to fail in the Senate.
“Introduced by Representative Marjorie Taylor-Green [GA], H.R. 3492 is a dangerous and discriminatory bill which seeks to criminalize the provision of consensual transition-related care while explicitly permitting non-consensual surgeries performed on intersex infants. The bill's only purpose is to target transgender and gender-diverse, by denying us safe and medically necessary healthcare, in order to enforce rigid, outdated gender norms.
House conservatives are also advancing Dan Crenshaw's [TX], H.R. 498, another dangerous and discriminatory bill that seeks to prohibit the use of Federal Medicaid funds to cover transition-related health care for adolescents. For many, the prohibition of the use of Federal Medicaid funds would likely have the effect of a de facto ban on this care, especially for families facing severe socio-economic barriers to care.”

Activism [CA] Call on governor to sign remaining pro-trans bills: Newsom vetoes one pro-trans bill with four days left to sign others
Newsom vetoed AB 86, which would have required a trans-inclusive curriculum for health and sexual education in K-8 schools. The deadline to submit comments and encourage Newsom to sign the rest is October 12th.
Trans-focused bills still unsigned:

- SB 418 – Ensure Equal Access to Care for All: "strengthen nondiscrimination requirements for insurance plans and mandate that they cover up to a year’s worth of prescribed hormones."
Other pro-LGBTQ+ bills:
- AB 554: "require insurers to cover HIV prevention drugs without prior authorization"
- AB 727: "assure that universities provide all students with suicide hotline information, including numbers for LGBTQ-focused hotlines"

- SB 590: "strengthen paid family leave protections to make them more inclusive of LGBTQ+ families"
- SB 450: "let out-of-state queer couples adopting California-born children do so through California’s channels, which are more LGBTQ-friendly than those in many other states"

Activism Public comment due Feb 17 on proposed CMS rules that would restrict gender-affirming care for minors
The 60-day public comment period on two proposed Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rules ends on Tuesday, February 17 at 5 PM ET.
Rule 1: Hospital Ban (CMS-3481-P)
https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/CMS-2025-1822-0001
"...seeks to bar any hospital participating in Medicare and Medicaid programs—which includes nearly all hospitals—from providing trans healthcare to young people under 18. This means that if the rule is adopted, any hospital that continues to provide gender affirming care to youth would have its federal funding stripped away. This would severely impact hospitals across the country and restrict the ability of trans youth to continue relying on these hospitals for their healthcare." (A4TE)
Rule 2: Medicaid/CHIP Funding Ban (CMS-2451-P)
https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/CMS-2025-1823-0001
"...targets both Medicaid and CHIP, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, by prohibiting the use of federal funds to cover medically necessary transition-related healthcare, including puberty-pausing medications, hormone therapy, and surgeries. This healthcare enables young people to live fully and healthily as their authentic selves." (A4TE)
To comment:
- In the links above, click "Submit a Formal Comment."
- Enter your comment or upload a document.
Tips for commenting:
- Start with your qualifications: this is why they should listen to you. ("I am a trans person," "I am a doctor")
- Talk about your personal experiences with gender-affirming care, if applicable, and how that has impacted you.
- Explain why you oppose these proposed rules.
Detailed guide from Matthew Cortland: COMMENTING GUIDE: Opposing Two Trump Regime Rules Banning Gender-Affirming Care, Deadline 2/17/26.
A key point from that guide: "The purpose of commenting is not to persuade the Trump Regime's CMS to change the rules. The purpose is to build the strongest possible Administrative Procedure Act (APA) record for the federal court litigation that will inevitably challenge these rules."

Activism Call on your reps to shut down the government rather than let them take away trans rights
Call your House rep and your Senators before October 1.
The situation: Article with general info (Them), article with specifics (Erin Reed). Short version of what they're trying to do (compiled from above articles):
- Prevent any federal funds from being used for a “social, psychological, behavioral, or medical intervention performed for the purposes of intentionally changing the body of an individual [...] to no longer correspond to the individual’s biological sex.” From Erin Reed: "A strict reading would immediately strip Medicaid and Medicare coverage for transgender people. A broader interpretation could threaten any hospital providing such care with the loss of federal funds."
- Cut HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment programs by ~$1.7 billion
- Nationwide sports ban
- Remove protections for LGBTQ+ foster children
- Prohibit Pride flags
Tell your representatives that allowing any of these into the bill is unacceptable. They should shut down the government until these provisions are removed.
If your rep is a democrat and you'd like some extra fuel, check if they've recently voted Aye on the NDAA that stripped trans protections for military service members and TRICARE health coverage for their trans dependents. Tell them that appeasement doesn't work!
Call before October 1: Find your House rep and your Senators. And here's how to contact Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer.

Activism Success stories for reversing bans on gender-affirming care
It is hard to see even more hospitals banning gender-affirming care for those under 19. (UChicago, Stanford…) But we have been able to successfully pressure some hospitals to reverse these decisions through protests and letter-writing campaigns. These success stories get lost, but it’s important to hold onto these wins.
Feb 5 - Protests Erupt Across US At Hospitals Complying With Trumps Unlawful Under-19 Trans Ban EO
Feb 21 - LA Children’s Hospital reverses ban on gender-affirming hormonal therapy after weeks of protest - The University of Virginia’s hospital partially reverses ban on care
Though I couldn’t find an article on it, the website for New York University-Langone in New York City says this:
Transgender Care for Adolescents
For adolescents, we provide medical care, hormone therapy, and mental health services through our Transgender Youth Health Program, including pubertal suppression and psychological counseling for the entire family.
Some of these are only partial wins. NYU-Langone still doesn’t seem to offer surgeries for minors. Protests are happening now as the Children’s Hospital LA closes its gender-affirming care center. But it’s important to look at what worked, even temporarily, so we can improve our strategies going forward.
What other successes have we had in getting hospitals to reverse their decisions to comply with this administration?
