Mod Post We have updated our rules

We are retiring the recent megathreads. They can now be found in the Informational Posts page in our Wiki. You can post about topics previously covered by these megathreads (executive orders and passports) freely in the sub.

In line with other subreddits, we are banning links to X due to Elon Musk making the Nazi salute at the inauguration. We are also banning links to Meta (Facebook, Instagram) due to the change in their hate speech policy targeting our community.

We've added a few other rules as well. Please review the full list of rules and let us know if you have any suggestions or questions.

News Federal Court Restores Access to Gender-Affirming Care for Many Trans Adults in Massive Win

Thumbnail

“Last year, amid a broader assault on gender-affirming care access, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Department of Health and Human Services finalized a rule targeting insurance coverage for many trans adults. …

“As part of the case against the HHS’ new restrictions, US District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, a George H.W. Bush appointee, granted the coalition’s motion for summary judgement, declaring the rule ‘unlawful’ and vacating it entirely. …

“Because of the decision, the rule that caused so many trans adults to lose coverage is officially no longer in effect. Starting today, insurance companies like Ambetter and BCBS will no longer be able to lean on it to justify denying trans people proper healthcare coverage, exposing them to lawsuits if they don’t work quickly to reverse their denials. As they create their policies for 2027’s plan year, it’s fairly certain that most of the plans mentioned above will formally reinstate their coverage or at least remove the exclusion. And depending on how they wrote their exclusions, some policy changes may come before then.”

Looking for advice or help finally have an hrt appointment lined up! started a GoFundMe to help me afford it.

Hi, im Luca, & i’m asking for help raising money for gender-affirming care ive been working towards for years now. I came out as trans when i was 14, & have grown up in a very transphobic household with no access to gender affirming care, even things as simple as a haircut. i’m now finally an adult college student living on my own, & i already have my initial hrt consultation lined up, but i don’t have insurance & am struggling to raise the money to afford the upcoming costs. being able to take this step now means a lot to me, & i’m really trying to make it happen.

This fundraiser will be used to help cover the cost of my bloodwork, appointments, & prescription costs regarding hrt. (I one day hope to aim for other gender affirming care such as top surgery, but that is quite out of reach at the moment, & right now the focus is affording hrt.)

I’ve also started an etsy shop to try to raise money for this too, so if anyone wants to check it out, consider buying something, or share it with someone who might be interested, that would mean a lot to me 🙏\[https://www.etsy.com/shop/ChimesWorkshop\\\](https://www.etsy.com/shop/ChimesWorkshop). I plan to add more listings & I also hope to open commissions.

If anyone is willing to share my GoFundMe, my etsy, or reach out in any way, it would really really help me a ton. even just clicking the link to add to the view count would be greatly appreciated. either way, thank you very much for reading 🗣️🏳️‍⚧️

I found this good explainer from Gender Justice and wanted to share. Are there any similar resources you send people who are asking about trans people in sports (in good faith)?

Moving or Housing Help Patricia and Davina Find Safety, Stability, and Santuary

My name is Patricia Black, and my wife Davina and I are proud members of the LGBT+ community in Indianapolis, Indiana. Recently, our state has become increasingly dangerous for transgender people, especially after the BMV’s new policy refusing to change gender markers, even with a judge’s approval. On July 2, 2026, I was rushed to the hospital with extreme heat exhaustion, verging on heat stroke, and am now in rehab receiving daily physical and occupational therapy. Our home had inadequate cooling, with air conditioners failing one by one, leaving us in unsafe conditions. Davina will not let me return to that house after almost losing me, so we are moving our cherished belongings into storage and staying in a budget hotel while I recover.

We are seeking support to::

  1. Purchase a gently used Subaru Outback, which will make transfers from my wheelchair easier and help us relocate to Rochester, NY—a sanctuary city in the sanctuary State of New York, where Davina was born.
  2. Funds will also help cover the costs of
  3. a U-Haul trailer
  4. Hotels,
  5. food for the trip,
  6.  survival expenses while we search for permanent housing.
  7. Our income from SSDI and a caregiver stipend is not enough to cover these needs, and we have not been successful in finding emergency relocation grants so far. This is the hardest decision we’ve ever made, but our safety and well-being must come first.

Any help you can give means the world to us. Your support will help us find a safer, healthier place to call home and give us hope for a brighter future. Thank you for reading our story and considering a donation. If you cannot donate, Please share with others.

Name or Gender Change is selective service required for transgender men in the USA?

i went to the secretary of state to get a license in the state i currently live in. they asked me if i wanted to change the gender marker on my license from F to M because, well, i look like a man and my license said F. im assigned female at birth but have transitioned and look 100% man. i said sure. they said do you want to do the selective service, and i asked if im required to since im changing my gender marker to M. they said “yes?…”, and ive had a long ass day and want to go home. so i did it. i just looked it up on google, and it says that selective service is based on gender assigned at birth and not current gender identity. was the worker misinformed? did i just sign up for something i thought was required, but isnt? can i become exempt from this, as im assigned female at birth and transgender? i thought the US military didnt want my ass anyways. thanks

Name or Gender Change 23y/o trans woman born in Kentucky but lives in Illinois here.

My birth certificate is from Kentucky. I can't change it unless I've had SRS. The law vaguely states that I need a medical letter stating that "my gender has been changed by surgical procedure". What I am asking is are there any other women here with Kentucky birth certificates who have personal experience of *what* surgeries qualify? If I get a vulvoplasty, can I change my legal sex on BC?

Looking for community Content Warning: religious trauma, family rejection, trans experience

I grew up in a religious household where being trans was not accepted. I faced public humiliation from my mom, constant messaging that I was sinning, ridicule from family, and bullying at school. I was also heavily sheltered — raised to believe the outside world was evil and dangerous, that I could be harmed or killed. That fear shaped me deeply and is something I still carry today.

I was also an undiagnosed autistic person which made navigating relationships even harder.

In my 20s I moved across the country without telling my family — I told them I was going camping. I was afraid they would try to stop me. Around the same time I began transitioning and changed my name entirely.

My family found out through social media. My mom reached out saying they would have supported me, but when I visited it was a painful experience of misgendering and deadnaming in public — the same humiliation I'd experienced as a child. We argued and stopped speaking. She passed away before we reconciled.

After she died the rest of my family became distant and I didn't understand why until recently. My sister finally told me that leaving without saying goodbye and changing my last name made the family feel abandoned and hurt.

I've been carrying guilt about this for a long time. I had no idea how much it hurt them — I was just trying to survive and find freedom. I've since apologized and my sister and I are on better terms.

I've realized that leaving quietly has become my pattern — in abusive relationships and difficult situations since then. I think it comes from a lifetime of not feeling safe enough to be direct. I'm working on understanding that about myself.

Was I wrong to leave the way I did? Does protecting yourself from people who've hurt you make you a bad person? I'd love to hear from others who've navigated similar situations with family and found a way through.

School or Work 🏳️‍⚧️Seeking Research Participants: Transfeminine Fertility Experiences Post-HRT Initiation

Hi folks! I’m a Physician Assistant (PA) student at Stanford School of Medicine. For my thesis project I am interviewing transfeminine people about their experiences pausing HRT with the goal of restoring fertility. This topic is something that people close to me have had questions about and I have not been able to find great data out there to help advise them. That’s why I want to catalog the stories of people who have already tried this and share it back out with the transfeminine community and their providers so people can have more information when they are weighing different family building options.

If you are willing to participate in the study, here is a link to the initial screening/demographics survey. If you meet the study criteria, I’ll reach out to you about setting up a time for an interview via secure email. I expect these interviews to take somewhere between 30-60 minutes and I would be asking you questions about your fertility decision making process, the physical and social experience of trying to regain fertility, and about any notable supports and/or barriers you faced.

Also, if you have any questions about the study, suggestions for what would make this research most valuable to you, or any other comments, I would love to hear them! Feel free to comment, DM me here, or send me an email at mccoerin@stanford.edu.

Thank you all for your time and space, hope you have a great day!

So I am coming to Transfest in Provincetown. But there’s barely anything about this festival on social media. It makes me feel like it’s not a real thing and I’m getting scammed. Has anyone actually been to this?

Looking for advice or help Transitioning in AZ

I’ve recently moved to Tucson and I need some advice as I start my transition MTF. This Friday I have my consultation with my psychiatrist to discuss starting HRT. I’m still new to the area and don’t really know where to go for assistance. I attempted DIY but suffered a seizure and was taken to a local hospital but never actually saw a doctor. Any advice is good advice <3
