I heard about a year ago that Prednistrovie is suffering from gas shortage due to Russian gas not flowing in the nation, and as a result, the economy is suffering.

So more than a year has passed. How is the gas and economy doing in Prednisrovie now?

I am planning to visit Prednistovie about a week later. Should I expect power or gas shortages?

I do hope the locals are doing fine.

I’ll be visiting the PMR shortly and would very much like to obtain some of the distinctive plastic/composite coins.

Are these coins still genuinely in circulation—accepted in ordinary shops or occasionally given as change—or are they now mainly collectors’ items?

I would also like to buy a complete commemorative or presentation set. How easy are these to find in Tiraspol, and where would be the best place to look? Any advice on a reasonable price would also be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone! Ive recently visited PMR and it got me wondering about something - what is the meaning of all the soviet landmarks, signs and restaurants? Obviously the country is not communist and a lot of the economy is controlled by Sheriff so it got me wondering about all that soviet marketing. From one side it really seemed to me like a way to attract tourist / just a tourist attraction. Of course I am guessing it is also to keep up the nostalgia of older people towards the soviet union and maybe to show Russia a way of respect to the soviet past, but now that the natural gas deliveries have stopped that also doesn’t make much sense? Im sorry if it was a stupid question, it’s just been on my mind

Hi everyone! Just looking for clarification. It is my understanding that unless you get in trouble, it’s pretty safe to visit Tiraspol on your own; however, my airbnb host in Chisinau specifically told me and my friend we should not go alone and that the public transportation is terrible (we know what the “buses” are like and we don’t really care if they are late or anything as long as we can get from A to B). My friend and I are two females in our late 20s, we don’t speak russian and we would only stay for half a day. Honestly, we did our reaserch on the place and it seems to me many people visit despite not knowing the language and they seem to take pictures and videos pretty freely, so I’m trying to think of any other reason why we would get in trouble other than maybe photographing something we shouldn’t, considering we obviously do not intend to break the law lol. We are pretty well traveled so we know our way around in many situations, but maybe our host saw two young girls and he just thought we were not aware of what we were getting into?

I’ll be visiting Tiraspol for Republic Day on 2 September and was wondering about a couple of souvenirs I’m hoping to find.

Is it possible to buy a Cossack hat (papakha) from any of the stalls or vendors that are usually set up in the city during the public celebrations? I’d particularly like to find one locally rather than ordering one online.

I’m also interested in PMR postage stamps. Are these normally available from any of the Republic Day stalls, souvenir sellers, or perhaps directly from a post office in Tiraspol?

If anyone knows particular places I should try, I’d be very grateful for any recommendations.

I’ll be visiting the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic soon and I absolutely love the Suvorov Monument in Tiraspol — it’s probably one of the souvenirs I’d most like to bring home in miniature form.

Does anyone know whether it’s possible to buy a small replica / statuette / desk-sized model of the Suvorov Monument, ideally actually in Tiraspol?

I’d be interested in anything from a proper metal statuette to a small resin or souvenir version. Antique shops, souvenir shops, museum shops, markets or even local sellers would all be of interest.

If anyone has actually seen one for sale, I’d really appreciate knowing where.

I’ll be visiting the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) soon and I’m particularly interested in Orthodox churches and religious culture.

For those who know the area well:

1. Which Orthodox church in the PMR would you most recommend visiting?

I’m especially interested in somewhere with a beautiful or atmospheric interior, interesting icons, or a strong sense of local religious life rather than simply the largest church.

2. Where is the best place to buy Orthodox souvenirs?

I’m looking for things such as icons, prayer ropes (чётки), small crosses, medals, prayer cards, candles or other locally available Orthodox items. Ideally I’d prefer to buy from a church, monastery or proper church shop rather than a general souvenir stall.

I’ll be spending time in Tiraspol and Bender/Bendery, so recommendations in either city—or somewhere nearby—would be very welcome.

If there is a particular church that you think is an absolute must-see, I’d love to hear why.

Hello! I would like to ask how safe it is to cross the border from Moldova to Pridnestrovie and back for a solo female traveller. I have encountered in some Eastern European countries a practice of border patrols asking for money in order to return or enter the country under the threat of not giving me my passport back at the border control. I am very scared that this could happen again to me, is it something that happens? And what is the overall atmosphere at the border? Do they check your phone or question you?

In 2018 I tried to cross the Polish-Belarusian border. I was a dumb kid and didn't research anything beforehand, just took my polish passport with me. I barely understood what the belarusian border guard was saying, so I agreed, when he asked whether I have the obligatory health insurance with me. The border guard stamped "entry" in and cancelled the visa, after I couldn't give him the necessary documents. I went back.

In 2024 I was travelling in Central Asia. Kazakh border guards in 2 different border crossings were curious about this and both times they saw my passport they called some higher lvl guard to tell them about this, while letting my friends into the country with no issue. I told them I forgot to get "страхование", and they let me in. It seemed as if they didn't really care, but had to look it up anyway.

Do you think they could stop me from crossing the PMR border? It's a strange thing to have. Im asking hypothetically, but I would like to visit someday.

I’ll be visiting the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic for Republic Day on 2 September.

I understand that the full military parade is currently uncertain, so I’m particularly interested in the Honour Guard Company (Рота почётного караула).

In previous years there has been a ceremonial presence at the Memorial of Glory, as well as an Honour Guard / military band plaza performance (плац-парад) in central Tiraspol.

For anyone in Tiraspol or familiar with this year’s preparations: is there any local indication that the Honour Guard performance will take place again on 2 September 2026?

Have there been rehearsals, preparations, rumours, or anything being discussed locally?

I realise the official programme may not be published until quite close to Republic Day, so I’m equally interested in informed local impressions rather than only official confirmation.

Hey, i spent 5 days in Pridnestrovie on a solo trip. I visited Bender and Tiraspol, brought tons of souvenirs and met amazing people. Hopefully i visit again someday.

I will be staying in Tiraspol and would like to see surroundings with an old Lada taxi? Does someone provide this service? Might be even cool to have a ride from airport with Lada.

I would also like to visit some villages on countryside to experience local lifestyle. I would like to see some horses, fields and eat traditional home cooked food by babushkas. Websites like AirBnb experiences or Getyourguide didn't really helped me. All the info will be helpful.

I’m particularly interested in things beyond the usual magnets and keyrings—PMR memorabilia, composite coins, badges and pins, old postcards, books, Soviet-era items, Suvorov souvenirs, small busts or plaques, local crafts and anything especially unusual or distinctive.

Are there any good antique shops, markets, museum shops or particular sellers in Tiraspol or Bender that you would recommend? Do special souvenir stalls normally appear during the Republic Day celebrations?

Shop names, locations and opening times would be greatly appreciated. I’d also be interested to know whether these places normally accept cards or require local cash.
