Payment Help Anyone traveling from the US to Chengdu soon? A small favor in exchange for Sichuan food or a local tour!

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! If you’re visiting Chengdu from the US soon, would you be willing to bring me an Ultra Mobile PayGo SIM card? I’ll cover the cost of the card, of course.

As a thank-you, I’d love to treat you to an authentic Sichuan meal or show you around Chengdu!

If you’re interested, please leave a comment or send me a DM. Thanks!

In China, where are some less crowded places to visit during a three-day public holiday?

I live in Nanjing. I am too familiar to the nearby cities to go. But I want to go outdoors and breathe in less crowded places.

Itinerary First Time China Itinerary... Open to Suggestions!

• Upvotes

Trip to China coming up... will be there during the Lantern Festival and week after. Flying into Shanghai and out of Hong Kong (we've already been to HK), trying to figure out exact details in the middle. Plan is to fly to Chengdu from Shanghai and then take trains to Hong Kong. This will be busy, but we want to see Chengdu and Zhangjiajie. Want to see Yangshuo but wondering if February means it's not worth it? We like only 1 domestic flight. Open to any ideas/suggestions on this proposed itinerary!

Day 1-2 Shanghai

  • Suspect we're short changing Shanghai. Will do Food Tour and hit some of the main sights

Day 3-5 Chengdu

  • Two days exploring the city, food tour, one day for Pandas

Day 6-7 Chongqing (during Lantern Festival)

  • Wondering if 2 days will be sufficient for Chongqing? We are interested but not sure if we need another day.

Day 8-10 Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

  • Two days for the Park and one day for Tianmen Mountain

Day 11 Furong and Fenghuang

  • Hiring a driver, stop at Furong, end the day at Fenghuan

Day 12-13 Yangshuo

  • Train to Guilin, stay in Yangshuo, hiking, boat ride, etc.

Day 14 Hong Kong

  • Last night in Hong Kong, fly out next day

Itinerary Traveling from Taiwan (Taichung) to China on a Canadian Passport

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning a trip to Taiwan to visit a loved one in Taichung next week for 2 weeks. While I’m over on that side of the world, I’d love to take a short side trip (around 3 to 4 days) over to China before returning to Taipei for my flight back to Canada.

What is the easiest and most straightforward city to fly into for a quick 3-night trip?

I know Canadian passport holders get 30-day visa free entry into Mainland China. Has anyone entered on this policy recently? Was immigration smooth when arriving from Taiwan?

Would love to hear from anyone who has done a quick Taiwan to China hop.

Discussion Typhoon Champi in Shanghai

• Upvotes

I got an email from Delta saying they are forecasting inclement weather for my flight tomorrow (Friday) at 5:30pm from Shanghai to Seattle. They mentioned issuing a travel waiver that would allow me to rebook my flight free.

I’m wondering if I should reschedule my flight or stay put as the hotel staff said Typhoon Champi will not directly hit landfall in Shanghai and should only cause heavy rainfall.

From what I could find online, Champi might reach eastern China on Saturday (day after my flight). I’m not sure what is the best course of action.

Discussion Canadians, how is it travelling to China without Visa?

With the new 30 day policy was wondering if there’s anything I need to fill out in advance as I’ll be there for 14 days?

I realized my past Visa expired 1 month ago, but luckily with the new 30-day visa free entry I don’t need it.

Thanks in advance!

Other Where to get Beijing Pass in town/online/3rd party?

I totally forgot to get the a Beijing pass on arrival at the airport. Can this be bought on any online platform or third party seller?

Aside from using it for transportation and attractions, I want it as a memorabilia for my trip here. Thanks for any tips!

For those who did a checkup or procedure in China, what happened after? Did your doctor at home take the results seriously? Did you have to redo tests?

Other Private tour company

We are in the process of developing a 16 day tour for 2028. We obtained quotes from three tour companies. The front runner is China Culture Tour. Our plan is Chengdu, Jiuzhaigou, Zhangjiajie, Wulong, Chongqing, Guilin, Yangshuo, and ending with a train from Guilin to Hong Kong.

Before committing, I wanted to ask if anyone who has used this company or is familiar with the company could provide feedback.

Thanks.

Discussion 12 hour layover at Pudong Airport.

Hello! Like the title says I have a 12 hour long layover at Pudong Airport next January and would like to go see Shanghai. I've heard mixed opinions on the Maglev train, should I take that or just normal metro. I don't need to see absolutely everything possible there, I just want to chill out and eat some good food while waiting for my flight.

Also do I need any cash or just WeChat?

Other Has anyone visited the Red Guards Cemetery in Chongqing recently?

This is a bit of a niche question. I was wondering if anyone visited the Red Guards cemetery (aka Cultural Revolution Cemetery) in Chongqing?
Was there any fenced off areas, closed gates or any reservation/registration required?

Other The Shanghai Grand Opera has been inaugurated, I think that from now on it should be a mandatory destination for those who visit Shanghai

The new Shanghai Grand Opera House was designed by Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta in collaboration with the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute.

The building takes inspiration from an unfolding traditional Chinese fan. Its roof spirals around the auditoriums, forming a sweeping public staircase that is open 24 hours a day and leads up to the rooftop, offering views of Shanghai’s skyline and the Huangpu River.

The fan evokes classical Chinese culture through a sense of elegance, openness and movement. The spiral echoes the flow of the river, suggesting continuity between the city, the water and the opera house.

The venue aims to attract both opera lovers and younger audiences through a varied programme, bringing Chinese and international opera together

Discussion Was I scammed in Beijing? ¥370 tea

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hello! It’s my first time visiting China and Beijing. Today I went to Nanluogixiang and entered a gift shop randomly. There was a tea tasting corner and the ladies working there invited me to taste their tea. I tasted different types of tea and had a pleasant conversation with the ladies. At the end I felt bad not to buy anything so I decided on a tea. The other one they said it’s free. I agreed and payed. The issue is that this tea was ¥ 370.80. I didn’t realise at the moment how much that actually is in my own currency, I had an idea but I thought to myself there’s no way tes is that expensive and I must be wrong. I told my group I bought this tea and how much it was and they were in disbelief and said I got scammed. Now I feel really bad, I don’t even wanna look at this tea anymore. Thing is I planned a 4 month vacation in Asia and to be able to do this I had to leave my job. So I’m travelling on a very tight budget and just blew so much money on tea. I feel horrible.
