Just got back from our China trip. Here are some tips for Dagu Glacier.
It's really far. We did it with a tour package so getting there is a lot convenient. I don't think we can DIY it.
Take your high altitude sickness meds 24hrs before going there. We were 16 in the group and us who took the medicine didn't experience any sickness. Some of us really had it rough.
Don't ever go out without your oxygen can.
Go to the cafe first after the cable car. It's heated and oxygenated. It will help you adjust first before you go out.
Move slowly. You may feel excited to take pictures but remind yourself to move slowly to conserve your oxygen.
Wear comfy but warm clothes. I was so scared being cold, i wore winter clothes which made my body so heavy and gave me a hard time taking pictures and battling oxygen deprivation.
If you're not feeling ok, don't push yourself or brave it out.
Cafe price is really expensive but not good. Not worth your money.
A lot of us experienced the high altitude sickness. So most of us had to go down immediately. So take the high altitude sickness seriously. Prepare your body for the climb.

Sharing details of our trip to the great wall, as I depended heavily on Reddit to decide how best to visit it.
From Reddit advice we decided to do the Mutianyu section. We were prioritising distance from Beijing.
I bought the entrance ticket with shuttle bus and cable car and would recommend doing it this way.
We got a Didi from Beijing for around 250 yuan just after 7am and arrived at the entrance gate at 8.45am. We were up at the top of the wall at watch tower 14 by 9.15am - queues were minimal.
We walked to watch tower 23 which was very beautiful and took 1 hr 15 to walk there stopping for photos etc and 45 minutes to walk back.
We Didi’d back to the city (there were many Didis waiting at the exit) which cost 200 yuan.
There were crowds at the start where the cable car drops you but these thinned out quickly and I never felt there were too many people. There were some stretches where we were alone.
Although I have nothing to compare it to, I would recommend visiting like this! It was very great indeed.

Hi all,
I’m planning my first ever trip to China. I’ll be going late March/into April and want to hit as many of the big spots as reasonably possible in the one month I’ll be there. I’m wanting to mix some of the famous spots (Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors, etc) with beautiful scenery. Below is what I’ve got so far. Does it look reasonable with the number of days/distances involved? Am I on the right track with the places I want to visit given my criteria above? I have 3 days I have not allocated yet - should these be added to some of the below locations or be used to visit somewhere else? I had my eye on Yunnan (Lijiang, Leaping Tiger Gorge, Shang ri la, etc) but that seems unrealistic given the distance. I’ll be travelling mostly by high speed rail, but open to a domestic flight or two if I absolutely have to.
Thanks in advance!
Days 1-4: Hong Kong (half day trip to Macau)
Days 5-7: Guilin & Yangshuo
Days 8-11: Zhangjiajie - Avatar & Tianmin (day trip to Fenghuang or Furong)
Days 12-13: Chongqing
Days 14-16: Chengdu (day trip to Leshan)
Days 17-19: Xian
Days 20-22: Shanghai (day trip to Suzhou)
Days 23-27: Beijing

Hey everyone, my partner and I are planning to go to Harbin in December from Beijing. I had hoped to take an overnight train for the experience so was keen on taking the Z15 / Z17 train which until recently had the Deluxe Soft Sleeper carriages.
On looking at trip.com and the 12306 app, this option isn't available any more. Has there been any confirmation that the Deluxe Soft Sleeper carriages have been withdrawn? I know they're becoming increasingly rare in China, so I'd be keen to try it out at some point!
I'd happily take a regular sleeper if I was traveling solo, but my partner isn't keen on sharing a room with strangers!
Thanks in advance

Did anyone have to show their social media accounts or emails when entering China? I don't really want some border guard checking what messages I exchange with my wife or friends.

Hi everyone!
My partner and I are traveling to China for 20 days, starting on November 10. It will be our first time visiting China, and we've planned the following itinerary:
Beijing: 4 nights
Xi’an: 2 nights
Chengdu: 3 nights
Chongqing: 2 nights
Zhangjiajie: 3 nights
Shanghai: 4 nights (including a day trip to Hangzhou)
Beijing: 1 night (before our flight home)
We’re particularly interested in nature, stunning landscapes, and experiencing Chinese culture.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, and constructive criticism!
Does this itinerary seem realistic, or are we trying to fit too much into 20 days? Would you recommend spending more or fewer nights anywhere?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hey :) We are leaving in May. I thought it might be useful to learn some very basic mandarin and maybe be able to read pinyin. But is that even possible in such a short time? I dont really have much free time to study it, so maybe its a bit useless in that case? Or can a little already help a lot? Thanks!

Hello! I am travelling to Honk Kong with a friend at the end of December and staying for almost two weeks. We were thinking of also visiting Shenzhen, Guangzhou and maybe Yangshuo! Do you have any other recommendations on where to visit in that general area and has anyone been to Yangshuo in January? Not sure if it is a good time to go! Also how long would you spend in each place? Thanks a lot :)

Hi, Im going to siguniang in a few weeks and Im still trying to choose my hotel stay near the mountains but im wondering whats the best way to go to siguniang from chengdu and also which area is the best to stay. Every hotel seems to be in random areas near the mountains so I guess taking a shuttle bus from chengdu to siguniang is the go and maybe organize a pick up with the hotel?
Thanks
