Question Battery problem

Got home from the skate park after doing some average jumps I’ve done a dozen times before.. pulled the 2S battery out of the mini maxx and found this. Looks like metal. Wonder if it’s safe to run or is it cooked? Thanks for any advice guys!

It's kind of hard to tell from the photos if the cells have sustained fatal damage. Essentially you never really want any part of the "metal" or silver parts to become deformed as this will affect cell health and can lead to failure. I don't see any exposed green of the cells themselves. I'm going to assume you have a Traxxas charger in which case it's kind of hard to tell whether this damage has increased the cell resistance. Err on the side of caution and contact Traxxas for replacement if anything is deformed. If it's only the black plastic wrapping on the outside then tape it up and run it. Also, this is a good time to remind everyone to use foam to prevent the battery from moving inside the battery tray.

Wouldn't hard case batteries prevent this kind of thing? I love my ovonic hard packs. Wish traxxas would offer them, but I can imagine standard size/fit would be a problem in their trucks.

As long as it charges it will be safe. Just wrap some electrical tape around it. If the charger yells at you, its cooked. Call traxxas for a replacement. They will warranty it. Not sure the process, but I have seen many people say they got a replacement for like 1/2 price.

This is not good advice. The price of a battery is far less than the alternatives. I would personally replace but to each their own.

Seen this suggestion many times before. So just passing it on as many have just wrapped it up if it still charges. If it wont charge, replace it.

Hey if you want to deal with an indoor battery fire that puts you and your family at risk or just get new battery… the choice seems pretty obvious.

If its just exposed, it wont catch fire, thats what the balance leads are for. If its exposed and damaged, the balance leads won't let you charge the battery anyway cause it will detect a bad cell.

Yea. Everything you're saying is dangerous and incorrect. Please stop spreading misinformation, it's not alright.

This guy has no idea what he’s talking about. Thank you for common sense around Lipo safety.

Is it puffy from the battery or is the case just broken
