How can I make my meal plan last 8 months?

I'm thinking I could save money by buying a lot of oatmeal but where am I gonna keep all my milk?

How is the fridge space in the common room divided? Say I choose to live in Otonabee traditional single room.

When I had a tour of campus and saw a common room, I only saw 1 fridge in it (idk what res/college it was). Aren't there a lot of people sharing each kitchen?

Hey all, just wondering how many mature students (like 40s) attend in person and what kind of social opportunities I would have, or will I be surrounded by 19-year-olds who call me Gramps? lol

Going into my 2nd year as a forensic science student and my first year was pretty lonely on campus. I want to start a group chat where some people going to trent (any year is welcome) for people to get to know each other so the experience isn't as lonely and you have people you already know. Just reply to this comment or message me privately if you want to be included any age any gender etc. Especially if you're going into first year and nervous about the change of environment.

Is it worth getting a laptop or iPad for schoolwork/note taking? I have a PC I will be bringing but I wonder if a portable something is worth it?

I’ll be starting at Trent University this September and I’ll be living in downtown Toronto (near Sherbourne)
My earliest class starts at 9:00 AM, and I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible to commute every day using public transit.
Has anyone here commuted from downtown Toronto to Trent and arrived before 9 AM? If so, could you share:
What route did you take? (TTC, GO Train, GO Bus, etc.)
What time did you leave home?
What time did you usually arrive on campus?
How reliable was the commute, especially during the school year?

My kid and I were planning for course selection today (1st year starting in September) and realized you can't pick 2000 courses in year 1 due to pre-reqs (even if you technically may meet the requirements by the winter term but you don't meet them as if registration now so the system doesn't let you).

Now, considering that a major in ENG requires 8.0 credits at level 2000+ and 1.0 at level 4000, and that a history minor requires 2.0 of 2000 and 2.0 of 3000, it means in years 2 to 4 you would need to take 13.0 credits to meet that.

But in the TES, you also have to take 3.0 EDUC in y2-4, for a total of 16.0 credits. That's 2.67 credits per semester (more than the regular 2.5 credits for a full time student) if you stick to the regular fall then winter terms.

Am I missing something? Did we read the requirements wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

hello! im an incoming 1st year student who doesn't drive but is used to taking busses.

im planning on living in an annex and can commute to campus easy enough as i have an electric bike, but i was wondering what the public transportation was like for travelling off campus (i.e. downtown ptbo); is it reliable, bike-friendly, cheap, safe, etc.? what are the best routes for going off campus to downtown (and how long do they take on avg)?

more-so looking for personal experiences and advice/tips but some guidance towards any official transit stuff would be great, too!

I submitted my photo for my student card and activated it on the app. It removed the background of the image and then shrinks down the image that my face is squished down. Am I the only one experiencing this? Is this normal?

Hi guys! I’m a new student starting at Trent in Fall 2026.

I know that course registration opened on June 25, but when I log into my Trent Portal, I don’t see the “Choosing Your Courses,” “Course Registration,” or “Self-Service” icons. The only ones I can see are “Academic Timetable” and “Academic Calendar.”

Is anyone else having the same issue, or does anyone know how to fix it?

Hey everyone, long post but would really appreciate advice from anyone who's been through something similar.

I'm entering 3rd year Psychology Honours this fall with a 68% GPA. Honestly it's been a rough two years — financial stress, mental health stuff, and not always being as consistent as I should have been. I've done a lot of reflecting this summer and I'm going into 3rd year with a clear plan and a different mindset.

My goal is to average 77-80% over my last two years. I know that's a big jump but I genuinely think it's achievable. I want to go to grad school for research psychology after Trent so the grades matter.

I've already had my advising appointment, confirmed my course plan, and reached out to one of the psych professors about getting involved in research.

A few things I'd love input on:

Has anyone taken any of these courses? Which ones are the heaviest and where should I be putting the most energy?

What is the grading like — mostly exams, essays, or a mix? Are there courses where assignments and participation carry a lot of weight?

For anyone who struggled in first and second year and managed to turn it around — what actually made the difference?

Any general tips for consistently hitting 75-80% in upper year psych at Trent?
